Colinjb Posted 25 January, 2011 Share Posted 25 January, 2011 I am having some fun and games regarding some carpets I have purchased (well.... tried too.) Back on the 30th December I went to Carpet Right to buy two new carpets + underlay + fitting. Total cost £1000. They were having issues with their main computer systems at the time so I paid via credit card on one of those old fashioned manual swipe machines. Nearly a month on, the carpets have been installed... they are smashing..... but I still havn't been charged... I have nothing else on my credit card and enough of a balance to cover the sale so no problems there. I have told carpet right this but they say it's processed by a firm called 'Streamline.' Nothing to do with them. Where do I stand with this? Have I been given free carpets or will I get charged at some point in the future? Could I expect a baliff banging on the door or does my Sales Invoice protect me?
badgerx16 Posted 25 January, 2011 Share Posted 25 January, 2011 Presumably you kept the copy of the CC receipt, that with your invoice is your proof of purchase. Have you contacted the CC company ?

Have you contacted the CC company ? Yes, I have it right here. Havn't contacted the CC company. They are my bank though, I've been checking the card's balance online daily. Pancake Posted 25 January, 2011 Share Posted 25 January, 2011 Its not been a month yet, there is a chance that "manual" CC payments are wrapped up and dealt with once and month, so you might see it go through in early Feb?
egg Posted 25 January, 2011 Share Posted 25 January, 2011 You have "paid" in that you have given them authority to charge £1k to uour card. Any failure to actually charge your account is an admin issue between the store/streamline/your card company. You have done nothing wrong and are not obliged to any more. My advice is to put the £1k aside in case the transaction hits your account. If it doesn't then happy days.
buctootim Posted 25 January, 2011 Share Posted 25 January, 2011 You arent going to get a bailiff banging on your dooor. Just hold on to the money, dont chase anyone up and relax. If they contact you to ask for the cash, pay. If they don't, up to you what you do, but since its carpet right, I probably wouldnt. edit - what egg said. Micky Posted 25 January, 2011 Share Posted 25 January, 2011 When I am away on business in Germany, I quite regularly go to a restaurant that only uses these old swipe systems. Sometimes the bills take 3 - 4 months to appear on my co credit card statement, so I would imagine that it will be processed at some point in the future. Stick it in an account with as high interest as possible and leave it there for at least six months to a year and if it has not appeared on you statement in 12 months time treat it as a brucie bonus. Had similar with AMEX for a sat nav, never did come out of my account.
