Richard Keys and Andy Gray

Did you lisen to the interview? Thought Keys came across very articulate and has univesal respect in broadcasting for never making mistakes and being ultra professional. Gray completely changed the face of punditry. Do you agree with Gray having his home phoned tapped by a newspaper?

Can't see how you can say they are **** wits? Have you never said anything remotely sexist as a flippant remark to a friend or work colleague?

Those in glass houses... I've seen and heard far far worse than that!

2 sides to every story and I thought Keys put his accross very well today - also gave up a pay off and his dream job (which he would have kept if he kept schtum) by resigning. A far better and honourable man than the "football" people that he deals with that will wait forever to get a pay off before leaving a job.

I listened to what they said about the lineswoman, it was retarded and they were not even joking.

Wether I have said anything sexist or not is irrelevant, I'm not the face of a TV channel with a microphone strapped to me.

Yeah they do sound like cocks.

It's annoying that Karren Brady can dismiss the criticsm as sexism though. Whether sexism is a problem or not, it's largely irrelevant for Karren, as regardless of gender she's just a vile person you'd never want to do business with.

Adrians, I like you. I have always liked you and look out for you posts. BUT this issue seems to have highlighted some fundemental flaws in your character. I have read some posts of yours that seem to say that the comments were no big thing (maybe not on this thread, it may have been another) and I find that disturbing. However, I was willing to let that go, everyone says stuff that is out of character. But now we have this "she's just a vile person you'd never want to do business with" statement. Now the only way I would accept this from any member of SWF is if they had actually done business with her. have you done business with her? If so, I am happy to respect your view, but I doubt you actually have. So where has this view come from? Is it based on hearsay and ********? Besides which, isn't it the case that virtually all business people fit the description of " just a vile person you'd never want to do business with"? why single her out as exceptional just becaise she's female? The way of big business is that people get shat upon. It's not just Brady, but virtually everyone in big business.

I agree - so far most of the defence had been that Keys and Gray were joking. It certainly didn't seem that way to me, just sexist and stupid.

Course the thing in their position is that to an extent they and SKY rely on the popularity of the presenters to make money - whether they were right or wrong you can't just go around offending people and hope to get away with it. Personally I found their style facile anyway but if any other presenter made the same mistakes they did then they would be in the same position. It's no good apologising either - the apology is because they were caught out and not because they think what they did was wrong. If it was then they wouldn't have made those comments.

Now hopefully we can move on, that Massey bird can get a topless contract with Nuts or Zoo and we can get Laura Esposto to replace Keys. Every silver lining eh?

Gray completely changed the face of punditry. Do you agree with Gray having his home phoned tapped by a newspaper? Keys usually comes across as aeticulate when the camera is on him. Unfortunately, when he doesn't realise the camera is on he is prone to being rather sexist and less articulate. Did you see that footage where he keeps saying Jamie Redknapp was "hanging out of the back" of some woman? Cameras off and the true character comes out. even Redkanpp and the other ex-footballers present seemed embarrased by his behavour - that of a 13 year old.

i

Can't see how you can say they are **** wits? Have you never said anything remotely sexist as a flippant remark to a friend or work colleague? This wasn't a flippant remark. They seem to have constant sexist comments spewing from their mouths. It's entirely different. And anyway, no - I have never made a sexist remark to a female colleague, flippantly or as a joke. That's because I'm educated and have respect for people. I knw your question wasn'taddressed to me, but I'm going to treat it as if it was.

Those in glass houses... I've seen and heard far far worse than that! You don't know that the person you're replying made comment of a sexist nature! You just asked the question and have assumed the answer is "yes". You're judging people by your own lowly standards. Not everyone is a nob you know?

You need to grow up.

A total victory for the Thought Police.

No more jokes and banter folks - whatever the rights or wrongs, their comments were made off air. They were naive without doubt to think no one would snitch on them. Sky would have been better employers to have put them through a gender equality class than fire them - this is normally the route for this type of situation.

No doubt in my mind there is an agenda here.

Watch out for being recorded in shops, offices and pubs.

I don't condone these comments and recognise it's not acceptable today in the public domain, but let's not turn into a humourless society where our private conversations are used against us.

silly post. There is no problem with jokes and banter anywhere. This was not in a pub but at work and insulting and embarrassing colleagues. Only people who are too narrow minded or thick not to be able to joke without being sexist or racist need to stop joking.

It's a very thin line though Nick

I work in an office with 3 girls who love to dish out lewd comments to the blokes

It's a shame that life has become so mundane that office banter like this has become unacceptable

No problem with both paying the price for their actions but I find it ironic they've lost their jobs from the Sky organisation.

How many male presenters who work for Sky Sports or News are over 50? How many female presenters are over 30. A display of cleavage also seems to be required. Ageism and Sexism does not appear a problem for the employer.

Two less than there were. Hypocrisy seems to be built into the business model at Sky and the Sun.

No surprise that Keys has resigned, the phrase "jump before you're pushed" springs to mind.

As I said earlier (somewhere on page 3 of this thread, I think), I do suspect there's a link between Gray's lawsuit against the News of the World and this whole sorry episode. Keys and Gray have been doing this for years (read the Matt Scott article in the Guardian where he's spoken to three current and former female Sky employees), and it's only now that it's found its way to the newspapers... coincidence? I doubt it, but arguably Gray was playing with fire by carrying on in that manner. Surely he's not so completely in a bubble that he wasn't aware that there were loads of people within his own company who would love to take him down a peg or two?

While Keys' comments were ill-advised at best as well, I think he's been dragged into it because he's intrinsically linked to Gray rather than solely for his own misdemeanors. Without the vested interest in getting at Gray, Keys would probably have remained untouched.

I've not heard Keys' comments on TalkSport, but I saw all the quotes on Twitter as they were happening, and the general consensus seemed to be that it was an absolute car-crash, a complete PR disaster. He said sorry so many times that it completely lost its meaning and seemed to imply that he was only saying sorry to save face rather than because he actually meant it. And then there was the classic "I'm not proud of what happened at the weekend, but with success comes envy". I mean, seriously, what the ****?! :uhoh:

As it turns out, their recorded comments are just the tip of the iceberg in an office culture at Sky Sports of persistent bullying and intimidation.

Is that something you approve of? Perhaps that's acceptable in Redondo Beach, although I doubt it. Here it's against the law.

Keys was probably phoned up by Gray.

''Oi keys - we have a gig in Dubai on one of the prem channels over here, more money, warm climate and no backlash - quit and join me over there''

We don't bloody well want them here...

We already have an out of work ex Football Sky Front Man hanging on so his kid gets through school in Rob McAffrey.

(Anyway Dubai doesn't have football anymore, Abu Dhabi is buying it all)

Meanwhile great put-down by Karen Brady

Keys tried to phone her to apologise then said "She deliberately didn't pick up the phone"

Karen Brady response in Telegraph

In the same interview, he also suggested Brady had deliberately not returned his call as she wanted to keep West Ham off the media’s agenda, a claim vehemently denied by the club’s vice-chairwoman last night. “Perhaps Richard thought I was too busy making the tea and washing up to take his call but a glance at the newspapers would have made him well aware that I was heavily occupied with the Olympic stadium bid. I did not ask to be part of his sexist tirade.”

Seems behind the scenes this is as much about other people hating them as much as it is about the Thought Police. More of a live in glass house don't give ammunition to your enemies. A lot of "Former Colleagues"

The scourge of paediatricians everywhere out on her ear too? Oh man, this week gets better and better

Just got around to seeing the "Did you smash it?" Youtube video. God Keys is embarrassing - basically a grown-up version of the gimpy kid who thought he was the Ultimate Lad because he was the class bully's (Gray's) lickspittle. Typical Cov fan, in other words.

That's my point too. Agree that there is a difference in real sexist views that make no sense.

Have a look at Ruud Gullit in the "did you smash it" clip, you could tell he was uncomfortable.

I find the whole Gray and Keys thing cringeworthy, middle aged men thinking their somehow attaractive to women and having "banter" that is more akin to 20 year olds. I remember reading an article from an attractive star (cant remember who it was) telling a story of how 50 year olds George Best and Rodney Marsh were hitting on her backstage at some show. These were 2 real playboys in their prime, yet she said it was sad and she felt sorry for them. If they want to look sad and play to the lads mags culture in their own time then that's fine, but they shouldn't do it at work. Whether on air or off air, they were still at work. You just cant act like you're in an episode of The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club nowadays.

For it to be "banter" it needs to be a two way thing. In the "tuck it in" clip, the fit bird just ignores him, there is no banter there. My Mrs is a midwife and some of the things they say about the women having the babies and their husbands/partners is frightning (and that's just what she tells me). It doesn't come out and is kept amongst themselves. However, if one of them got the sack for something overheard, then they cant come complaining about it.

Well actually Deppo he is quiote right. Maybe one day something will be used in evidence against you.

If he acted illegally I expect it would. Get some perspective and common sense. If you spend your waking hours intimidating and bullying your work colleagues, and you get found out abusing perfectly competent officials on grounds of their gender, you don't really deserve to be paid £1.7m a year for your opinions.

No its generally how fascists and communists enforce their ideologies. Undercover filming and then a show trial.

Get a grip. It was banter. I feel sorry for them. I think SKY wanted to freshen things up and decided to dig this up so they didn't have to pay compo + it's been brilliant publicity for them.

Lads banter. I expect pubs across Wolverhampton were full people having the same discussion about whether there should be a female linesman that night. Stop getting so hysterical about it. It looks like they lost their jobs because it suited Sky.

Although, if they hadn't said stupid things, they would still have their jobs.

Time for some other undeserving twit to get their snout in the trough.
