Because 5 good strikers can't all play, and none of them will put up with being out the team for long given they could play at a higher level.

what 5 strikers ?? Barney is just a sub now, Lambert misses more than he scores and Guly isn't an all out striker. Look at the number of shots we have and the number of goals we actually score. We've had some great wins with a few goals but when we get to the down and dirty matches like last Saturday's we can't hit the net. These games are pitched battles and when someone sets up something with a moment of sheer brilliance you have to take the chance and not shove it 2 yards wide or hit it straight at the keeper (or go rolling about on the deck looking for a penalty) We should have scored on Saturday, players work hard to set up these chances and we miss them,Adkins always speaks about missed chances in his post-match, looks like he's decided to do something about it.I am 100% certain that Lambert would have scored from the chance Morgan so beautifully set up for him if he was a yard quicker and if he could use his left foot.

So out of Lambert, Barnard, Mackail-Smith, Austin and Guly who do you think would be happy being left out of the squad?

Don't much care really, don't think we'll sign both Austin and Mackail Smith . I'd go for Lambert and whichever one of those 2 we sign with Guly replacing Ox when he leaves. None too much time for Barnard myself, not of late.

Would be a fantastic signing.

Alot of you's on here are forgetting that Guly isn't a forward. He is an Attacking Midfielder being played up top. He is at his best when playing behind the forwards.

Lambert & CM-S, Guly just behind, Lalla and Oxo wide, Schneiderlin or Chaplow in the middle with Guly tracking back like he does from up top anyway. I would give that ago and be pretty confident it would do mean business. Drop Hammond off at the airport and we will be on our merry way.

Chaplow can't play that role, he'd wander forward too much and his ball control is a bit iffy, can't use bouncing ball first time either plus he's even dodgier in the tackle than Morgan. If you're not going to use him as a forward marauding water carrier then you have no use for him;

This hasn't been the case when it's been tried though.

This is an absurd statement. Have you even seen Chaplow play?

Who cares, I'm don't give a sh*t if some players feeling are hurt because they're being left out of the squad, if we manage to get better players in then that's excellent, why should we worry? If Barney get's dropped because he's not as good as we've brought in then maybe it'll make him train harder, same goes to all of our players.

I really don't understand this pandering to the players because they'll cry if a better player comes in and he is dropped to the bench, it's about the team, not the player, if we bring better players in then the current ones have to up their game or go and play for a less ambitious team.

Thank god you're not manager then, we'd have Puncheons left right and centre.

Could not give a ****

We just need to win and score goals away from home

Bet the squad gives a ****. It's a balance between keeping morale high and getting in decent players. Otherwise you get a ridiculous amount of waste and also some inconsistency (look at Man City and the squillions they have spent.)

Exactly. I'd imagine the likes of Lambert and Barnard are popular figures among the squad - if they get dropped straight away for someone new coming in it could p*ss everyone off.

Sorry who can verify that this was heard on Solent??

Secondly i have to say we should be getting the best players in that we possibly can. It looks like Oxo is off, as is Puncheon and Holmes is done. That is 3 players out.

Now i would love to sign Austin primarily and would be very happy with McKailSmith also. You have to remember we can play 4-3-3 if needs be also.

I am sure it will be one of Austin or McKailSmith, then at least one or two wingers a midfielder and maybe a centre half. i think we need more creation in midfield as when Lallana doesnt play, we lack creation.

Any more word on the S****horpe boy???

I think we need to be more realistic and find a player to replace Lallana whenever he is unavailable as if Lallana doesnt play nor do the team. Also if Barney is sent on loan to Her Majesty's Prison FC we will be incredibly short up front. Oxo will be gone and Puncheon may as well be booted out - leaving us potentially and more realistically 4-5 players required this transfer window.

Let's never sign anyone better than them then eh? Nice ambition.

Who said anything about straight away, they'd train and NA will see who looks better for the match ahead. He knows what a high team spirit is all about, he knows not to upset the apple cart but a couple of new faces that give the top players already at the club something to think about is a very good thing, keeps them pushing harder.

Everyone realises that but most sensible people also realises that there is a limit to the amount of players which should be brought in because otherwise you have a ridiculous amount of waste. It's not a particularly difficult concept to grasp.

Are you seriously suggesting we sign FIVE players in this window? Seriously?

We have the strongest league one squad by a long way we need a couple maybe three players as cover and if people leave. Signing five players in a January window is nuts.

Well, that depends on who is leaving, and we could very well be without Lallana and Barnard for quite a few games. Having seen the goals from Saturday, I really think it's time to look at another goalkeeper.

I doubt we'll sign both MacKail-Smith and Austin, but it's certainly possible we are in for both players in the moment just in case one deal doesn't come off. Got to keep your options open. Don't think Adkins rates Barnard much. He'll almost certainly be fourth choice up front if a new striker is signed.

This would be a fantastic signing, far better than Austin in my view. Yes, Austin is younger but could come with a Puncheon attitude whereas CMS seems to fit the Adkins method of managing so much better. Plus it blunts P'boro's chances of hitting the top 2 as other posters have rightly observed. Have any of our rivals got an effective pacy winger so we that follow this strategy further?

Posh fan here - host of the un-official Posh fans podcast.

We are now obviously all very worried that this deal may go through this week. If CMS goes then that is our promotion campaign out of the window.... the lad is a diamond and lots of Championships clubs are circling but are yet to come even close to what the club want.

It will be a minimum of £2M plus add-on's for the club to even consider it, is what we understand.

We know the feeling mate, aparently, we are loosing our young winger, well, according to the media anyway.

Thanks for the info. Any insight of the type of player he is? Can he play as a winger also?

nothing in the media this end. In an interview I did with our owner a couple of weeks ago, he stated that CMS was a club legend and that a couple of clubs had made derisory bids. I know £2M sounds a lot, but Hull wanted CMS and came in an offered £1.5M and were told "you can have Aaron McLean for that amount" - so thats what they did :-)

He has played wide right for us on occasion but is not very effective. He is lightning quick and never gives defenders a minutes rest. The amount of mistakes he gets from defenders by hassling them is legendary in these parts. He has worked very hard on his finishing in the last couple of yrs and has now got a very good conversion rate. Him and Lambert up front would be a combination that would serve you very well in the Championship let alone L1

Fear not, there is still a few spaces left on the bus for incoming passengers - and we may have to make an unscheduled stop in Woolwich for one passenger

Sorry to be pedantic but Woolwich is 8.8 miles away from The Emirates Stadium and, also, on the wrong side of the River.

Unless you know something we don't, dropping him off in Woolwich would mean he is signing for Charlton??

Lol :) I was making a reference to their historic beginnings simply because I couldn't recall the exact area of London the Emirates was in... :-o

Beautiful Finsbury Park, where you watch the sun set over the crack dealers.
