Would be a great signing. Blackpool and Leicester have been linked recently. Barry Fry said they have rejected numerous bids for him as they want 2m upfront with 1m add ons. He is out of contract in the summer though so sure a deal can be done. Good goalscorer!

Think he fits into the Adkins mould: energetic, mobile, always looking to receive the ball and willing to track back and cover for others. That was scunny personified. Would be interested to know how he compares/differs from barny who also has some of these attributes.

this guy is the real deal.

Full of pace and caused us lots of problems when we played them.

Blackpool want/wanted to sign him too....this will be as much of a coup as Austin.

didnt think we had a chance of this guy bigger coup than austin

Well that would be stupid as we would then have CMS CA LB Guly and RL.

why would it be stupid...?

they may be better than what we have...lambert has hardly been prolific and OxO could be off...lallana is injured for the 2nd time this season....barny could be doing time..

We won't sign Austin and CML.

Please specify which thread you would like it put on and I will do it for you. I hate to upset anyone this early in the morning with such an important issue.:rolleyes:

no, I'll be alright, just need some quiet time. I put it the Jan transfer window one.

Mmm, interesting. How many times have we been linked with a player and then linked with another player to make it look like we don't need either, only then to tie up a deal shortly after. Is that a normal Cortese-like strategy? I would wager we'll see CML or Austin join us in the next couple of days. This guy could be better for Saints than Austin...a real live-wire, no personality issues and seems like he adapts very well to new higher expectations. Perfect for that step-up to the NPC.

More importantly he fits the strategy of buying the opposition's best player. Peterborough have games in hand on us and can overtake us if they win them. We need them to tail off a bit, so nicking their goalscorer seems a good way to do it, and it would **** off a Ferguson - always a bonus.

Solent often have an inside track from the club, what exactly did they say? Mqybe it could be tied up sooner rather than later otherwise it goes against the private discussions policy NA often mentions.

surprised we arent spending the cash on a winger to be honest.

I may be wrong on this, but Mackail-Smith can also be deployed as a winger (i'm sure he's played wide for Posh)

Could be, and a good business strategy. The more players in the same position that we're seen to be going for can help contain the asking price as it generates an element of competitiveness between the selling clubs. A good way to counteract the "ay oop, here come moneybags Southampton with a bid for our player. Let's up the price"

Didn't we do something similar with Fonte and that Shaw chap last season? Or was that Seabourne?

Think you're right. Unless we're thinking of George Boyd...

Peterbrough played with three up front basically.

Boyd - McLean - Mackail-Smith

Hmm. He says he's 6'3" whereas other sites say he is 5'10". Doesn't give you much confidence in the rest of the report goes it?!

To be fair he looked a little taller than Rickie when he came to St Marys. I'd say he was definitely over 6 foot at least.

Can`t help feeling that being less than six inches tall could be a bit of a drawback for a striker.

Kevin Phillips, Van Nistelrooy, Defoe?

Marian Pahars?

Besides, it doesn't seem to have hindered him so far this season - 17 goals and 6 assists.

EDIT; yeah, yeah, alright...

Useless

Dont be so hard on yourself there are plenty of others that will criticise you.

You obviously can't be talking about the player mentioned on this thread as that will make you look silly.
