Man United build up thread.....

Will be watching this at home after a mad dash home from work. My Man Utd supporting mate will be joining me, he keeps saying he's dead excited to see Oxo play to see what he's like "in case we sign him". Cockle. This will be a strange one off day, defeat is inevitable yet none of us really care - if anything, defeat is the best thing for us. I'd still like to see a committed performance from Saints though, with Rickie banging in a consolation or two.

I can see tactical wizard Adkins putting out a 4-5-1 for this game, similar to the away formation of last season with the two wingers becoming forwards when (if!) on the counter attack. Who knows, depends who's available to play I guess. Butterfield in midfield? (It's a good job I'm not the manager tbf...)

Whatever happens tonight I'll be getting drunk - celebration or commiseration, we shall see.

Why do I feel I am the only one that want Saints to win today?

No, It doesn't matter if we lose, but if the lads go out there today and give it their best shot, and you never know maybe grab a draw or even win,

it can only make them go out against Exeter on Tues with fire running through their veins.

So come on lads and lasses, get behind the boys and out sing those manc ***ts today.

OK... seems unlikely we will see Lallana playing, (acc.to NA) and Chaplow may play, but what about Man.U's start side--

Responding to the story / non-story of Blackpool's 25K fine for fielding a "weakened" side against us in the last round, Alex Fergsuon seems to be covering his back, (when acc. to BBC site... " he is expected to make significant changes" when he (AF) complains that QUOTE ...clubs are allowed 25 players and it doesn't say that you need to name 11 players and 14 subs. UNQUOTE :

So who's he gonna play, more importantly - leave out.? We know Rafael is out , and that Van der Sar won't be in goal..who else , I wonder ?

Be sure he will be making large scale changes, he'd never dare put out his best side, and stand the chance of a Cup upset against an L1 side ..even if it is Saints.

I agree with this. When I look back at the history of the club it's the promotions from the lower leagues that stand out for me.

Who can forget the winning goal that secured our promotion in 77? Or was it 78?

What about the excellent run of games and form during the season that was key to securing that promotion? Classic.

Most people have photos or posters of the '76 team lifting the FA Cup. I don't. Instead I have a giant spreadsheet on my wall containing all the fixtures of our successful promotion campaigns, including points per game, winning sequences and how many times we lost tricky away games on poor quality pitches

My advice ? Get a girlfriend....;)

That was their league game against Aston Villa. I don't believe there are any rules about it in the cup.

Blackpool were fined by the Premier League for fielding a weakened side against Aston Villa in the Lague. Nothing to do with the game against us.

Ferdinand will not be playing AFAIK. I would not be surprised if Rooney is rested as well. Really wouldn't surprise me if Lallana does play some part today - just because NA said he wouldn't on the OS interview means nothing, all part of the misinformation smokescreen.

How many mistakes can you get in one article?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jan/28/squad-sheets-southampton-manchester-united

"Guilherme do Prado, a 19-year-old Brazilian striker"

"Subs Bialkowski, Martin, Butterfield, Dixon, Seaborne, Barnard, Hammond, Lallana, Gobern, Connolly"

After the way he played last week Dixon of Dock Green would be better. He's hopeless!

Those people like "scott saints" I'd like to say the league is more important but then this is the FA cup and I LOVE the FA cup you cant be rude about supporter wanting to see saints play man u.

The FA cup is not only Quality but its a game where players don't have so much pressure and can enjoy a bit, I think some players will be rested and thats ok I want to see plenty of effort and if not a win a respectable score line!

You think thats bad, on the back of the Sun the team formation has Jaidi as right back Harding plaing Center Back, Dickson center Mid with Schneiderlin on the left wing.

Allow me to be controversial, but i'm looking forward to today's game. A glamour tie against one of the world's best sides (albeit their reserve team - still could compete in Prem!) makes a refreshing change from us playing the likes of Tranmere, Hartlepool and Oldham. It'll be great to see SMS rocking again today, and a good performance will tempt back fans who haven't been coming as much recently, leading to higher attendances and gate receipts. While the league is infinitely more important than any of the cups, you get 46 league games in a season but rarely do special games like this come along. The last time we played Man Utd (FA Cup 3rd Rnd in our CCC relegation season) our club was in tatters, the playing squad wasn't half as good as the one we have now and we weren't sure whether we'd even have a team to support come next season. But we're in a fantastic position now to prove a point to those who had counted us down and out when we dropped into L1, and with enough confidence and passion we can go out there and get a result which will shock a fair few people in the world.

So enough negativity and lets just be Saints FANS and cheer on our lads!

Mixed emotions.

This season the only time we get a televised game is for the Cup. (Nobody bothered to buy the rights for L1 & L2 down here) and with our local internet I am fed up watching a collection of juddery still pictures in a 2 inch window on my computer

Don't have the system it is shown on so have to go to the pub.

Pubs here are a PL fanzone so will be full of Mancs wearing fake shirts too small for them and looking strangely like our old buddy Al Fahim up the road.

I know we'll in all likelihood get tonked and that it doesn't REALLY matter, I want to wear my Shirt with pride this afternoon, and yet know that the local plastics will give it large and I'll come home all wound up.

So do I wish this was a League Game? No because at least I can watch us on telly.

Do I hope that we get through the game without injuries or cards? Yes.

As equally as the wrist slitters bemoan the damage this game could do, equally RL could get a hat-trick and go on a scoring run of supreme confidence.

Today is a big game, so is Tuesday. It makes a change to have TWO big games in one week. Has been many years since that happened.

I'm going to the pub with my held held high and will enjoy this, sod the moaners & the plastics

Le Tiss just asked on Sky Sports about his problem getting tickets for his children......he was very diplomatic but obviously upset that a loyal servant and our greatest player of modern times had to wait over 3 weeks to get tickets and then only after the national press got involved. I support NC totally, i think we have made leaps and bounds with him at the helm, but this was a PR disaster!

Thankyou cortese for saving club etc, looks okay at mo but still not certain if getting out of league. However, benali thing he is being an idiot and the le tiss thing us absolutely awful. Matty tried to save club and was let down by others. Thanks for trying matt. After years of seeing the loyalty and best player I've ever seen I have to say cortese grow up and stop being an absolute wally. Out if order massively, as was the stuff with the echo. Just because u have done something good for club doesn't mean u get to be a dickhead about the clubs history.

Christ looking at this post you look dead one for a heart attack by the time your 14 at this rate...How can you be so angry about a non event?

I think you need to take up supporting a less stressful sport (perhaps bowls?) because if we get to the next round your head might explode!

By the way I am excited about today..Big game, full stadium..

I am also excited about Exeter on Tuesday..real important after the last two league results...

I don't need to stress about priorities, that's Nigels job, I just turn up enjoy the games and hope we win both!

Sorry can never bet against us - just doesn't seem right somehow but each unto their own I suppose.

I sometimes to it too, just so if we lose it helps a little bit, not because I think we'll lose. no point for this game though the odds will be stupid.

Really looking forward to this. This is what football is all about your team playing the best team (arguably) in the land. I was brought up on always playing your best team and trying to win every game and cup competition there is. I don't buy 'distraction' arguments we didn't use those back in the 1970's when I started going regularly often a good cup run led to better league form. I presume all those slating this fixture and not going to the game won't be on here avidly looking for score updates................ As a fan my support is unconditional and I want to see Saints play as much as I can and play to win everything. COYR
