Have no worries fellow campers......Spiderman will be fully up for this game on Saturday...Show ponies to the fore..

Albeit he has shown a slight improvement lately...I fear he will be back to his old ways and not show his talent at places

like Walsall or Hartlepool on a cold Tuesday night..When we need full effort and players with bottle..

Spiderman you can do it for Saints or go and train at blooooody Arsenal for their third team, which would suit your undoubted show boating talent..

AND some of you have a go at Puncheon....

I really wish we were out of the cup.....I really mean that.

this season is all about promotion and I would rather be playing the home game against charlton saturday......ffs

we will play our strongest line up and probably spend most of the game ball chasing (which will take it out of the players) which will have a knock on effect for the very much more important tough away game at exeter a few days after

the ONLY positive this game brings for me, is that we avoid a league game without lallana and hammond

I'll watch it because it's on TV, but not as interested in it as a league game. Ideally Man Utd will win because our players have shown that they don't have the right mental attitude to concentrate on the league whilst we're in the cup.

Bart

Butterfield Martin Seaborne Mills

Puncheon Gobern Hammond Skacel

Barnard Doble.

3-0 to Saints. Easy.

In all seriousness, seriously, I think we'll get tonked, but go out showing a bit of spirit. Puncheon can get stuffed if he thinks he's playing in this game IMO.

Concentrate on the League.

Nah, once they score four then Ferguson will tell them to ease up. He has far too much respect for us as a football club.

United's side won't be all that good, not with games this Tuesday and then against Villa the Tuesday after. Villa can play and now that they've a goalscorer they may well upset a few apple carts.

Ok,it is not beyond the realms of possibility that we could nick a win, just a little mad to think so perhaps.

Leeds turned them over at Old Trafford, mind you they then went on to not register a win for 14 games i believe.Completely ruined their promotion campaign.

I think Fergusson will field a strong side and show us some respect in doing so.

I see....3-1 Man U.And tbh,i would settle for that.

Last time I checked Leeds were in The Championship after winning promotion last season.

Let's have a look at some possible on-field battles based on their 3rd round team and as close to the team that played Blackpool as we'll probably have available:

Lambert Vs Ferdinand

Barnard Vs Evans

Guly Vs Rafael

Chamberlain Vs Evra

Harding Vs Nani

Schniederlin Vs Fletcher

Chaplow Vs Carrick

Richardson Vs Giggs

Martin Vs Hernandez

Seaborne Vs Berbatov

Hmmmmmm...

So much so that they still got promoted...

I think they were in a better position to us when their cup game effected their form - we are playing catch up.

In fact Leeds were 8 points clear at the top and 11 points clear of 3rd place going into their tie with Man U.

United won't field a team that strong but.. Lambert would cause Ferdinand problems in the air. Guly could possibly pull Rafael around with his movement and Barnard would buzz around and put them under pressure at the back. Chaplow would kick lumps out of Carrick and Chamberlain would give Evra a bit to think about.

Indeed. So it all comes down to the referee. If we get a Premiership luvvie-duvvie then we are in the doggy-doos.

Ferdinand was injured yesterday and Carrick went off after 24 mins with an injury as well. Don't know how serious either of these are, but they were playing Smalling at CB, could give us some hope?

I would imagine their team will be alot different than the one that faced Birmingham

I'd expect to see the likes of Owen, Macheda, Obertan, Park, Smalling, Fabio, Scholes etc

I would too, was just referring to the OP which listed the 3rd round team. Think Hernandez more likely to get a start than Owen, he seems to be more of an "impact player" for them.

The problem is this United team doesn't rely on a Ronaldo or Rooney for it's goals, they could chop and change all they want and still smash us for 4 or 5. Wether it's an half arsed Rooney/Berbatov or highly motivated Owen/Hernandez, little difference.

The defence is possibly a different story, wouldn't mind seeing Chamberlain up against Gary Neville.

Couldn't get much change out of Tranmere's defence yesterday now could he. Gary Ugly would eat him up for tea as of yet. He's fast as you like but good positioning seems to get the better of him at the moment.

I'm hopeful that the main first team players will be rested for the crucial game at Exeter.

GK - Bart

LB - Harding

CB - Martin

CB - Seabourne

RB - Butterfield

LM - Dickson

CM - Gobern

CM - Schneiderlin

RM - Puncheon (put him in the shop window to try and get some cash now - don't care if that gives him what he wants)

ST - Lambert

ST - Barnard

That's what i'd go with anyway.

You know we will be up against it when the Premier League ref walks out the tunnel with a Man Utd shirt on....

I've changed from 4-1 Saints win to a 2-1 Saints win to allow for the biased ref and the extra ten minutes he will give Sir Alex..

SORRY FORGOT..... ;)

Vidic would be the man to mark Lambert. He wouldnt cause the best CB in the world problems in the air IMO.

Was happy when the draw was made but now would rather be playing Charlton and be out of the cup. It really is a pointless game. But now were in it might as well give it a go, personally however pointless the game i dont want to be totally humilitated on live tv. Sort of a 4-5-1 formation.

Ridiculous post. Schneiderlin has been one of our best players this season, I can't believe some people can't recognise the great work he does. I think some people don't like him because he doesn't score goals, or go on mazy runs like Lallana/Chamberlain, or run around like a headless chicken kicking everyone up in the air. Guess what, that's not what he's there for. The whole 'He's a foreigner so he won't fancy it on a cold Tuesday night up north' is a pretty lazy stereotype as well. He did pretty darn well at Oldham the other week on a Tuesday. Yes he's had a few bad games this season, but so has nearly everyone else as well. The guy is a talent.

As for the United game, I'm definitely in the not that bothered about it camp. We'll get outplayed and outsung for 90 minutes, comfortably beaten about 0-2. More excited about Exeter away three days later. Much more important game.

Who cares about this game.

We will have to put up with commentators who have not seen Saints play in years and will go through the pretence that its a real contest.

Spirit of '76 crap.

United are on song and we are severely weakened without Lalllana.

Could be a blood bath.

**** off Ferguson

Ottery has a thing about Morgan, always has had, he's a Brian O'Neill would have kicked him over the stands and juggled the ball all the way to the Bargate and back again before blasting it past the keeper from 70 yards wallah. If you look at just the highlights from Saturday you can see what Morgan does, that little first time dink over the defence for Ricky to waste because he can't shoot with his left foot was pretty magical.Chaplow was the relayeur on Saturday and according to more than one he was non-existant. NA got it wrong, should have played Puncheon and not Dickson. Then again he does sometimes get it wrong, it's pretty obvious that he doesn't rate Puncheon and will do anything not to play him.NB Alsace is a flippin cold place, bet it's colder in Strasbourg on a Tuesday night in February than it is in Exeter. We have roughly the same climate here, today it's -5°C at the warmest.

You are probably right....Except when he does play well I will give him credit for it..On a few match reports.

I accept that there is some talent but having watched him many times he flatters to deceive.. Many matches where we really could do with him.. Played in the wrong position for me..Deep he is Lazy and far too casual.

I will have a good look on Saturday in FA cup and again on 1st Feb at Exeter..Will give you my honest opinion...

I really do hope he proves me wrong and he plays a good midfield role and helps the team gain three points at Exeter.

Will be the first to praise him if that does happen..

As for a thing against him....Probably just my first view of him and many games thereafter where he has gone missing

for big chunks of the game, no challenges, when he should, .. if he tackles his tackling is poor, giving away many fouls,..heading...non existent, very poor positional play..

Windows......I know you love your French football(ers) and always supported Spiderman...

You, as a coach probably more knowledgable than me..

I personally think he should have progressed a lot more than he has..The odd cameo role does not do it for me..

Nothing personal against this lad as I want him to do it for Saints..We need him at his very best every game if possible.

You and Papa Shango may even be right....The Manager plays him ...So what do I know....

As a supporter/spectator...Personally not my choice in this vleague or the style Saints play most weeks...

I really hope we play a weakened team, and that our fans don't go embarassingly over the top at the excitement of playing Man Utd. I guess that's too much to ask. Just a bunch of kids who weren't there for the last 20 times we played them I guess.

I'm not looking forward to it. Likely losing comfortable to Man Utd reserves. What's the point? I loved beating them, but I loved beating their first team. If we beat them they'll just say so what it was the reserves, just like Blackpool. That's what takes the edge out of these games. So let's do the same, Exeter is a vital game after the 5 points we've just thrown away.

Chamberlain should be rested for that game, we can't do without him and Lallana. If we had both playing against Man Utd, we'd have a chance, but with Lallana out anyway I can't be bothered. I'd play Kelvin though, see how he gets on then likely bring in Bart for Monday.

Davis

Richardson Seabourne Martin Harding

Puncheon Chaplow Gobern Dickson

Barnard Lambert

I'd agree with that, pretty much. This game really doesn't matter, but Exeter on Tuesday does so it's vital to keep key players fit. Definitely not Lalanna or Hammond, would avoid playing Oxo.

The bottom line is we're very unlikely to win, but have got as much chance with a reserve team. The last thing we want is the top players running themselves ragged trying to impress.

I just hope Berbatov doesn't play - he would rip a new one in our defence. Otherwise who cares - we're going to lose - just hope it's not a complete humiliation. Need to score early because they will be so much fitter than our players who will fade in the 2nd half.

I would say zero chance. They will play Hernandez and Owen (SO much easier for us, like what have they ever done?)

What a bunch of miserable b@stards !

I enjoy watching Saints play no matter what the opposition and I for one would rather see Saints play Man Utd than Dagenham & Redbridge or Brentford or Oldham ....... That said, i still went to all those games and supported the Saints in the same way.

Yes the league / promotion campaign is more important BUT how thrilled will you be IF we beat Man Utd - theres always a chance. Lets not forget that there is no guarantee we will beat Exeter regardless of whether we played Man U or not, all this talk of players heads being turned IMO is b@llocks. Everyone goes out to win no matter what the opposition.

I will be there Saturday and win, lose or draw I WILL enjoy myself, just like the rest of the season.

Man U's injury list is getting pretty long, they may even have to play some of their better players. I'd almost forgotten about Valencia he's been out so long, Park is swanning about with Korea somewhere in Asia, Carrick seems to be injured,Ferdinand is doubtful for tomorrow, yep they might have to put out a pretty good side against us.A red card for them tomorrow would be pretty handy for us,Vidic for choice.Plus we might be able to wind that Rafael up a bit, Punch would be handy for that.

we dominated large chunks of the fa cup game we played against pimpey last year and lost 4-1 due to pace on the counter attack. dread to think what saturday will be like

get it out the way, minimal damage, no injuries. make a few changes, let go out and have some fun etc etc

Can't believe the amount of apathy being shown towards this game. It's a cup tie against Man Utd for crying out loud. The most exciting game of the season by far. It's on terrestrial TV, not just on the beeb but accross the world. The League is ALWAYS going to be our number 1 priority. Go up this year and promotion will be next years goal. Go up again and we're aiming to stay in the Premier League, get into Europe, win the Prem, conquere the universe etc.

I for one hope we put out a ful strength side and give it our best shot. We probably wont win, but if we do we'll be telling our grandchildren about it.
