simo Posted 23 January, 2011 Posted 23 January, 2011 Who was at fault for the goals last time we lost ?
sfc4prem Posted 23 January, 2011 Posted 23 January, 2011 Let's be honest, both Davis and Bialkowski won't be amongst the best keepers if we get into the Championship, to put it lightly. We need to delve into the money pot and buy ourselves a quality keeper.
Miltonaggro Posted 23 January, 2011 Posted 23 January, 2011 Wouldn't surprise me to see Joe Murphy from S****horpe at Saints (I think that he is out of contract in the summer). Commanding keeper and was brilliant for Adkins in this league...
simo Posted 23 January, 2011 Posted 23 January, 2011 Poll mods ? Bart , Kelvin or time to buy a new keeper ?
benjii Posted 23 January, 2011 Posted 23 January, 2011 Look at the first goal here... ball into the edge of the six yard box. Where was Davis? Nowhere near it!!!
Katalinic Posted 23 January, 2011 Posted 23 January, 2011 His kicking is very accurate. Anyone who criticises Davis' kicking doesn't deserve to be taken seriously, especially if they are advocating playing Bart instead. Really? When the ball is played back to him by a defender there is a usually collective intake of breath - in fact on more than one occasion I have noticed a hesitancy in the defence to play the ball back. Kicking out of his hands I agree is better. Bart may well not be the answer but he deserves a chance and we will then find out if he is the long term solution.

Sorry but I find that to be completely wrong! His kicking off the deck is much better than his kicking out of hands. If you have the misfortune to sit amongst idiotic duffers who **** themselves every backpass then try really hard to ignore them and watch what actually happens. 9 times out of 10 it is a pinpoint ball on to Lambert's head. Yes, if a backpass puts him under pressure he might whack it out but that's probably sensible. His kicking is better than that of most goalies I see play against us and it's certainly better than Bart's which is barely professional standard at times. If people have criticisms of Davis then fair enough, but this refrain you often hear about his kicking being poor is just plain ill-informed. He may have made one or two mistakes in the past but for the last season and a half it has been very good.
Katalinic Posted 23 January, 2011 Posted 23 January, 2011 Sorry but that's utter nonsense. Do you watch matches? His kicking off the deck is much better than his kicking out of hands. You don't seem to be able to accept that people can have a difference of opinion than yours without resorting to childish name calling. This may come as a bit of a surprise but your opinion may not necessarily always be right. I regularly see Davis shank a back pass into touch and whilst I don't doubt his shot stopping ability I don't believe his distribution or command of the area is top notch. We may well get away with it in L1 but assuming we go up then a change will be needed - as per my previous post this may or may not be Bart - I suspect it will not be.
simo Posted 23 January, 2011 Posted 23 January, 2011 His kicking is very accurate. Anyone who criticises Davis' kicking doesn't deserve to be taken seriously, especially if they are advocating playing Bart instead. Out of his hands maybe but like someone said above when its been rolled back to him on the ground and under pressure he's dodgey a hell! I think we should be looking to improve all areas of our team and I don't see why Kelvin should be immune he was at fault for our last loss too !
OldNick Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 I thought from the tv pictures that Davis should have got the ball. A mistake. I feel that there are so many delusional posters on here who think we should have a keeper that cna do something no other keeper in the world is able to do.# We are a L1 club and so why expect to have any keeper who is brilliant at every aspect of his job. All those who think Richard Wright is fantastic should go to the Ipswich town forum and see whether they think he is so good. In fact Im not sure he is still first chaoic, he has made some terrible howlers. All keepers do it, sadly we have some on here who stay quiet until KD makes am istake and then come out with the knives. He has saved us many more points than he has lost us. if bart comes in i hope he does well, i won't wish for him to cock up just to prove me right.
Mowgli Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 (The Latest) Kelvin Kok Up Kompetition After Two more wonderful masterpieces of Goalkeeping incompetance v the mighty Tranmere, how many MORE Kelvin Kok Ups will occur before a decent Keeper (not just a shot stopper) is brought in ?? . Came on this after the 'back from game' thread and it made me smile. given that the BFG thread seemed to think Fonte was much to blame for the first goal and the second was a fluke, I guess the poster was not at the game. It's easy to dredge out specific examples as to why one keeper or another ought not to play for the first team but I stress again that as supporters we ought to be encouraging our players - especially in times of difficulty - not demoralising them and affecting their performance even more. Davis - like all good keepers makes the occassional gaff but you can't consider those without the brillient saves (e.g. owls) and the penalty saves he has made over the last few years. Truly awesome Having said that, I would love to see Bart get an extended run. He was a top prospect whose confidence took a knock after that walkabout in the Poland game and (note again) the reaction of the fans which DID NOT HELP.
Barry the Badger Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 Personally, I do feel that we could improve on KD, perhaps in the summer, but I don't think BB is the answer. Would be happy to be proved wrong though.
david in sweden Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 I agree. Time to give him a go again. Difficult to say he is a better keeper, but I still think that Bart is worth a go. Not just because he's played the prev. FA Cup games either. Only the most avid fans amongst us (remembering 1963, 1964, 1976 etc,) expects us to win - even against Man.Utd RESERVES ..but the game isn't worth 3 points, and at this stage of the season I'd take them instead. Give Bart a chance. If he's any good at all ?..then what better chance to raise his game and show what he can do. every round is a lottery, and from here on in ..we want promotion . FULLSTOP .
david in sweden Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 If we have silly money, let's just loan Shay Given. Good idea adrians....I've heard dafter suggestions today !
Goalie66 Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 A good goalkeeper is not just a shop stopper but one who prevents shots as well. In that respect Davies is very poor at coming for crosses and thereby puts pressure on his defenders. Clearly he does not command the box and therefore our back four are forced to play deeper than need be, particularly at centres. If the anaology of drive for show putt for dough is applied to football and goalkeeping then last ditch spectacular saves are the drives and the narrowing of angles, intelligent distribution and command of the box are the putting. Give Bart his chance
Appy Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 I've got a feeling Adkins doesn't rate either of them too highly, i think he will sign a new number 1 in the summer.
kpturner Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 If we have silly money, let's just loan Shay Given.Loan him to who?
Lighthouse Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 How can anyone have decided Bart isn't the answer, based on the odd cup game every couple of months? Davis fine he's been a stalwart for getting on 5 years now, but Bart has never really had a prolonged run in the side. How is it really fair, sticking him behind a couple of inexperienced (although perfectly competant) centre halves and saying, "oooh, looks a bit nervy on crosses". That kind of thing comes with experience and confidence and they only come with regular playing time.
