Durleyfos Posted 21 January, 2011 Share Posted 21 January, 2011 I drove through there tonight and thought it looked quite a nice place. Looked like there was some nice eating and drinking establishments in the square itself. Has anyone got any recomendations for places to eat or drink there? Redondo Saint Posted 21 January, 2011 Share Posted 21 January, 2011 I like to visit the Indian at the end of the square - used to be a shoe shop. There is also Cuti's on the main road just past the square.
rocknrollman no2 Posted 21 January, 2011 Share Posted 21 January, 2011 Last time i was there was about four years ago.My wife and myself stayed in a nearby hotel, but had run out of alcohol,so i went to the local shops around Wickham square.I had a teeshirt with a Saints badge on and everyone gave me a weird stare. There were a couple of Skate shirt wearing goons walking around who seemed to follow me around and even the girl serving me called me a Scummer. My advice, dont bother going there. swannymere Posted 21 January, 2011 Share Posted 21 January, 2011 (edited) Wickham is good for food, you've got The Roebuck just down the A32 towards Droxford which does good grub along with cabaret evenings if that's your cup of tea, the curry house in the old shoe shop is called Veranda and is excellent, then The Old House Hotel next door has a great restaurant, Kuti's just off the square is very good, then you've got a Thai place Koh Thai up the road along the A32 towards Fareham which is meant to be good. Then nearby you've got Atul Kochhar's restaurant Vatika at Wickham vineyard just past Meon Valley Country Club which is fantastic but pricey, also the The Bakers Arms in Droxford which is the current HAmpshire Dining Pub of the year It's a 50/50 mix of Saints and Pimpey around there, but i've never had any bother. alehouseboys Posted 22 January, 2011 Share Posted 22 January, 2011 'PO' territory, the portsea-pikey-real-pony-fiddlers like to run their horses through the village every year. A big day out down there - never have so many cousins been seen in the same place at the same time. Best avoided.
Chopper71 Posted 22 January, 2011 Share Posted 22 January, 2011 The wine bar does good food and we've always had good service. Kuti's is ok, but there are much better. Just a few miles up the road towards Winchester is Bishops Waltham that has 3 excellecent restaurants (banks bistro, the wine bar, and Friends Indian, but the ale houses are not good - just drink in the wine bar). It is also an SO postcode!

Thank you, your raspberry ripples were lovely! Thank you everyone, some good recomendations. Thanks swannymere for the links.
JackanorySFC Posted 24 January, 2011 Share Posted 24 January, 2011 The Kings Head pub in the Square, ccording to a recent survey, is one of the top 50 pubs in the country. Easily the best Pub I've been to in Hants for food (makes the Chilworth Arms look very ordnary), not cheap but class. Nice Village, Missus wants to move there, however due to being in an PO postcode she's lucky that I buy her dinner there! Don't go to Greens - Crap. Wine Bar's decent though and Kuti's is - well Kuti's, can't go wrong!
swannymere Posted 24 January, 2011 Share Posted 24 January, 2011 First time i've heard anyone being complementary about the King's Head's food! I may be wrong but it's just standard pub fayre as far as any of the locals know! You need to goto more pubs if you think they're decent, i'd recommend the Hampshire Bowman inbetween Droxford and Bishop's Waltham as serving decent but value for money food or the Rising Sun in Swanmore which has twice been Pub of the Year in national competitions. I suppose its all about expectations when rating a pub, but the King's Head is just another Pub Chain boozer. Durleyfos Posted 25 January, 2011 Author Share Posted 25 January, 2011 Was looking at booking the Old House Hotel for a meal for our wedding anniversary. Menu looks nice on the website.
