Hatch Posted 18 January, 2011 Share Posted 18 January, 2011 WTF!!! A decent player, i quite like him. but for foooks sake . No where near worth £24m What the hell does that make Messi worth!! seeing as he is at least hundred times better. and Bruce has quit Sunderland as well, apparently. JackFrost Posted 18 January, 2011 Share Posted 18 January, 2011 messi would be worth nearer £120 million if he had any price but Barcelona would never sell and Messi wants to be at the club for the rest of his career. As for Bent £18 million that could rise to £24 million is looking like a Houllier panic buy to me. Can't see Houllier being there in 6 months time. Colinjb Posted 18 January, 2011 Share Posted 18 January, 2011 24 million. That's nothing. Just ask the Skates..... Crazy to think this is the same club that refused to give Martin O'Neil a transfer kitty.
Thedelldays Posted 18 January, 2011 Share Posted 18 January, 2011 its a strange one.. £18m for a player who is the 3rd top goal scorer in the league behind rooney and drogba since 2005... how much would suarez cost..? how much would forlan cost..? would these players hit it off in the prem..? where as bent is a proven prem finisher....yet does not seem to play like a top class striker.. just a very good poacher and that is it....tough one
SuperMikey Posted 18 January, 2011 Share Posted 18 January, 2011 He's a good Prem level striker definitely, but £24m!?

Window Cleaner Posted 18 January, 2011 Share Posted 18 January, 2011 Villa need some impact at the front, they're not too bad apart from that because Albrighton and Young are putting in some good stuff but it's all wasted. To me £18 million to shove some of that into the back of the net is a good deal.Bent is a proven EPL striker and they don't come cheap.£12 million for Arshavin or £18 million for Bent is a bit of a no contest isn't it.Plus they've signed Jean II Makoun at the knock down price of £5 million so they've got a bit of leeway. SuperMikey Posted 18 January, 2011 Share Posted 18 January, 2011 but how much would another top finisher cost..that gurantees goals..? Adebayor is leaving Citeh, he'd cost less than Bent. Santa Cruz already went, but he would cost less. Michael Owen, even if he's a bit old, would still bang them in given the right service.

Bent is in the Defoe mould...and if defoe went from spurs today, it would cost circa £18m I suspect.....then again, defoe has not scored as many over the years as Bent Edited 18 January, 2011 by Thedelldays

Michael Owen, even if he's a bit old, would still bang them in given the right service. Adebayor is on 160K a week plus he's a bit unstable whereas Bent scores goals. I'd go for Bent any time rather than Adebayor, Owen is just a joke, finished, washed up, past it, over the hill and any other such euphemism you may find. That one great season he had showed how good he is, but he's sitting back and just collecting his paycheques at City. Owen is a crock but still shows glimpses of the player he used to be, shame he got those injuries or else I suspect he'd still be near the top of the scorer charts in the Prem now. Saint_clark Posted 18 January, 2011 Share Posted 18 January, 2011 £24million? Jesus. Could have signed Odemwingie for around £6million, probably less.

Fair enough I suppose, but I still think £24m is a hell of a lot of money for Bent. IMO anyway. Happy to be proved wrong if he scores a hat-trick on his debut! S-Clarke Posted 18 January, 2011 Share Posted 18 January, 2011 Sunderland should be laughing to the bank. Good player, but they have Gyan who I rate higher than bent - and their partnership never really ''clicked'' so it's a good opportunity for Bruce to go out and buy someone who can compliment and play alongside Gyan. They're in a great position to attract someone half decent too...I think they could do well out of this move.
dune Posted 18 January, 2011 Share Posted 18 January, 2011 Crazy. To put it into context that's 3/4 of the cost of building St Marys. Football really is a joke nowadays. No wonder we get ripped off at the turnstiles.

No wonder we get ripped off at the turnstiles. To put it into context thats the price of buying St Mary's, Staplewood, the entire squad including £10m AOC, Jeffries Farm and a foxy girl in reception. Plus £3m to blow on a frippary.
ThreeSixty Posted 19 January, 2011 Share Posted 19 January, 2011 Fine price imo. Proven Premier league scorer, which is hard to fine. + the inevitable "English tax".
Smirking_Saint Posted 19 January, 2011 Share Posted 19 January, 2011 25 man squads and the fact that he consitently scores goals ?? Perhaps a touch over priced but not overly IMO.
