SuperMikey Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Paul Jones was a rock for us in goal for years, then Niemi came in. The forgotten stalwart of the late 90s/early 00s.
S-Clarke Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 I know i'll get all sorts of moans and groans for this, but Jermaine Wright in our playoff season would get into my top 5.
Lighthouse Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Mario Licka Jo Tessem Kamil Kosowski David Prutton Gregory Vignal Cue abuse...
Thedelldays Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 I know i'll get all sorts of moans and groans for this, but Jermaine Wright in our playoff season would get into my top 5. you are mental
rallyboy Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 something for old blokes - Peter Wells - great keeper.

beatlesaint Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Nick Holmes Blast, you beat me to it. Manny Andrewzewski and Rueben Agboola I too would nominate Neil Heaney if he had not already been picked.
ottery st mary Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Forecast Pulis Molyneux Liptak Bledililis or however you spell it.. Only joking boyzzz
mickn Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Reuben Agboola and Malcolm Waldron readily sprung to mind
mickn Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Blast, you beat me to it. Manny Andrewzewski and Rueben Agboola I too would nominate Neil Heaney if he had not already been picked. Agree with that
Ex Ringwood Saint Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Nick Holmes ! Watched his goal against Liverpool on U tube last week. Absolute stunner from 25 yards swerving into the top corner.. won the game 3-2 with a Martin Foyle dive for a penalty !! David Peach was a player I always liked back in t he day, and from later on I suppose i always though Jo Tessem did a job for us and was always under rated.... Shipperly did his bit too..but blimey, he is twice the man he was back then if you have seen the photos !!
Barry the Badger Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Chris Marsden I think by the end we had all come to realise the genius of the man, but I do remember not long after he signed talking to my uncle about how awful we thought he was.
david in sweden Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Mario Licka Jo Tessem Kamil Kosowski David Prutton Gregory Vignal Cue abuse... well not abuse, but you are being a bit unfair to Jo Tessem. Could play defence or (preferred midfield) had one of the best strike rates for a MF attacker of anyone who's been at the club and his goals frequently won a point and occasionally all 3). His downfall (in the eyes of some fans) was when forced to play striker ( 6' 3") in a period when James Beattie was injured. Experienced Prem. defenders frequently played him offside, and he became the butt of some fans criticism. Good player in my eyes.
Ashby Saint Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 I think by the end we had all come to realise the genius of the man, but I do remember not long after he signed talking to my uncle about how awful we thought he was. I remember watching him play and wondering what the hell he was doing on the pitch. Funny thing was we always struggled when he was injured or suspended. If not under rated then definitely an unsung hero for too long.
Thedelldays Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 marsden is an example of how wrong people are when saying lallana wont ever make it in the prem because of his lack of pace
Miltonaggro Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 David Peach Ditto that Vectis, along with Terry Gennoe, who seemed to lose all confidence after the 1979 Cup Final...
sambosa75 Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 marsden is an example of how wrong people are when saying lallana wont ever make it in the prem because of his lack of pace Disagree with this. Marsden actually did have pace in short bursts. He wasnt rapid but certainly wasnt slow. He also had a fantastic engine as well. Dont reckon he was under rated at all. Him and Bridge provided one of the best left flanks in the league under Strachan.
Mowgli Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Jim Magilton, Eric Martin, Bobby Stokes, Nicky Banger and Chris Nicholl the most under rated manager ever. Why oh why did they sack him...???
Danish Saint Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Agree with Telfer, he was slated at times, but he made space for A. Svensson and Fernandes to shine. Other players that allowed others to shine: Maddison, Oakley and Widdrington. All gave room to MLT.
mickn Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Jim Magilton, Eric Martin, Bobby Stokes, Nicky Banger and Chris Nicholl the most under rated manager ever. Why oh why did they sack him...??? Great keeper, what a great time that was to watch footie
Tokyo-Saint Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Neil Heaney and Franckie Bennett both had Antonio levels of pace and could change a game. As could Banger. I remember Dodds testimonial where banger and Dowie up front for the old timers looked much better than Beattie and Davies.
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Mickey Adams Iain Dowie George Lawrence Barry Horne Derek Statham
Papa Shango Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Marcelo Sarmiento Paul Williams Djamel Belmadi Jamie Redknapp Chris Perry
bpsaint Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Mario Licka Jo Tessem Kamil Kosowski David Prutton Gregory Vignal Cue abuse... Under the stewardship of Hoddle i'd say Tessem was one of the finest attacking midfielders i've seen in a Saints shirt. As mentioned already though its when he was played up front his game suffered. As far as underated players go i'd add Ormerod and Kachloul to the list.
SO5 4BW Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Mick Mills - considering that Ivan Golac always gets chosen in all-time saints XIs and Mills was about a 100 times better defender. One of the mainstays of our best season in 1984
mitch01 Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 roman gasmi. Just a little joke there. Good girl....
The Cat Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Micky Evans Scott Hiley - ok he wasn't great but his 2 incredible goal line clearances went a long way to keeping us up. Anders Svensson used to get a lot of unfair abuse. Iain Dowie. When he first joined us I remember people booing his name when it was announced on the tannoy after he'd scored! Matty was criminally underrated by a succession of England managers.
Chez Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Derek Stathamhe won player of the season. Underated?
The Cat Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Under the stewardship of Hoddle i'd say Tessem was one of the finest attacking midfielders i've seen in a Saints shirt. As mentioned already though its when he was played up front his game suffered. As far as underated players go i'd add Ormerod and Kachloul to the list. Yeah, Tessem was great for about a 3 month period when he was played in the right position. Didn't Dave Jones play him at RB a few times when he first joined, and Tessem said he'd never played there before in his whole career?
Thedelldays Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Marcelo Sarmiento Paul Williams Djamel Belmadi Jamie Redknapp Chris Perry belmadi f'sure.....one of (if only) arrys good finds for us
