Viking Warrior Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 new laws come into play from april 11( but effective from October this year) re the right to continue working beyond 65 how many of you are going to continue to work into your seventies?
Quickfire Double Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 I think, at 32, I'll take a call on that nearer the time! If I'm in reasonable health, and happy in what I'm doing at the time, I'd like to think future me would certainly consider working on, irrespective of the necessity to do so, or otherwise. Ask me in 30 years! Hopefully I'll still be in a position to consider the question!!
mickn Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 I am 51 and would love to retire as soon as possible
Thedelldays Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 I aim to semi retire at 41...the day I complete 22 years service in the RN and get a fat pension 11 years to go
Whitey Grandad Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 I'm nearly 62 and I run my own business. Two and a half years ago I was close to selling it to my best customer and gently easing myself into a comfortable but not luxurious back seat. Then the credit crunch arrived, my customer got cold feet and sales orders fell off the edge of a cliff, so after living off savings for a couple of years I'm back to where I was about 5 years ago, but poorer. I do have a plan, but it involves working in at least a part-time capacity for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately severe arthritic wear in my right wrist means that CAD work or using a mouse is going to get progressively more difficult, which is a disappointment because I always used to think that if all else failed I could always work with my hands. Oh well, that's getting old for you.
bridge too far Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 I couldn't wait to retire and did so last year. I've had a year's freedom and now I'm bored witless and struggling a bit on my meagre NHS pension. I'm lucky to have Mr TF to share the bills and of course he's got years of work ahead of him, but I don't want to be a kept woman. I'm going to try to find a part-time job because I do look after my grandchildren two days a week but I'm not sure how well someone of my age will fare. Having said that, I did change jobs easily about 18 months ago, but maybe that's because I look a lot younger than I actually am Wish me luck!
Viking Warrior Posted 18 January, 2011 Author Posted 18 January, 2011 Good luck BTF You should get back to work then you can take advantage for flexible working for grannies in 2015 LOL

Whitey Grandad Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Alcohol, nicotine and a much younger partner. Easy Nothing to do with living in Switzerland, then?
bridge too far Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Nothing to do with living in Switzerland, then? Nah - wouldn't want to live there. Too many tax fraudsters. My 'location' is my homage to ML.

Of course, we must never forget the Great Man. Pity though, for many years now I have been studying the world's weather records trying to discover my Shangri La where all can live in comfort, peace and harmony and I can sit peacefully doing my jigsaws. If my wrist holds out that long.
buctootim Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 My 'location' is my homage to ML. Ive spent ages assuming it was some left field reference to typefaces!

If my wrist holds out that long. Madeira. Almost a perfect climate, belongs to Portugal so you can move there tomorrow. Plus its pretty easy to learn to use a mouse with your left hand. Im left handed and changed to right hand for the mouse. Only takes a couple of weeks to feel comfortable.
bridge too far Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 have you told him this yet.. ;-) He's smart enough to work this out for himself actually. He's got to save for HIS old age 'cos I sure as hell won't be around when he retires

bridge too far Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 grim Seems to me that everything in your life is. Tell me, do you EVER smile? Are you EVER happy? Or is your username just a self-fulfilling prophesy?

Or is your username just a self-fulfilling prophesy? Don't give him a second thought. His entire sense of self worth comes from lamely belittling other people and repeating previous posts as if its his orginal idea.
buctootim Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 Nice idea but.... no beaches. There are a couple of small ones. Also its only a short plane hop to the Canaries.
Whitey Grandad Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 There are a couple of small ones. Also its only a short plane hop to the Canaries. They're a bit too barren for me. I'm more like, caribbean?
buctootim Posted 18 January, 2011 Posted 18 January, 2011 They're a bit too barren for me. I'm more like, caribbean? You should check out Belize. The Caribbean but low crime and low costs.
Special K Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 I'm following Dune's share tips as i want to retire in 5 years time. I've already sold my house to buy HMV shares. It should be a breeze.

Don't forget ITV and Desire, the oil company that can only discover water and has about £3.15 in the bank for one final drill.

Master Bates Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 My dad is 69 in March and still working.

A typical day in the TF household? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tK3bRR6OPCc Actually, fair play BTF. I am sure plenty of women would, if they could.

Verbal Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 I've bought in and told Desire to rebrand as a water company. Next time they won't even find that. Perhaps they could rename themselves dune, as in a desert of nothingness except for the odd hillock.
Viking Warrior Posted 19 January, 2011 Author Posted 19 January, 2011 BTW do you have natural dark hair or is it out of the bottle? Lol
bridge too far Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 BTW do you have natural dark hair or is it out of the bottle? Lol They sell bottled hair now? Gosh I bet a fair few of you lot here buy it then

hamster Posted 20 January, 2011 Posted 20 January, 2011 resident pedants please confirm. Is it ironic? ...that on the day that this appears we are also informed of the NHS is virtually being retired at the young age os 62.
hamster Posted 20 January, 2011 Posted 20 January, 2011 i have a nephew (not yet 30) who built a company from scratch 5 years ago and just sold it for £1 mil +. Not retiring instead training to be a teacher!

Pity though, for many years now I have been studying the world's weather records trying to discover my Shangri La where all can live in comfort, peace and harmony and I can sit peacefully doing my jigsaws. If my wrist holds out that long. Thats teenage years for you I have a plan, i always have worked with a 5 year plan, an old MD i used to work for talked me into doing them and adding certain milestones when I was 18. Seeing as i have worked in what is essentially project management it is easy to do it with your working life as it is with jobs. I am on the right track to get where i want to be, i'll probably keep working for a certain power distribution company until i reach the level of authorization i want and then make a career choice into what i want to do, the pension and share save schemes here are good but every now and again i get the odd urge to go into consultancy and eventually start my own business. Thats the plan anyway, i'll see how it goes, i have a lot of years ahead of me yet.
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 21 January, 2011 Posted 21 January, 2011 No. ****ing. Chance I'm working beyond 65.
