And i am sure you will be jizzing into your Apfelstrudels should Puncheon and AOC leave, Lallana be out for the season and Barnard get life

Of course no other club in the world has rumours about its player leaving during the transfer window, or will get any injuries between now and the end of the season.

Nevermind, the squad is strong enough if he gets banged up, isnt it ?

Yep, for the rest of the season it is, after all it is mid-January at the moment. You obviously had a Geography slip there. LB is subject to the British Criminal system, not Austria. No doubt he'll still be available until next Christmas before he gets a court date.

And under those circumstances i am sure he will strengthen.

If Punch leaves for the right amount of cash, i am sure he will be replaced. If Barnard is going to be banged up, i am sure he will be replaced. We don't know if Lallana is injured either.

Who exactly should we replace Lallana with ? For example, should Fabregas or Lampard get serious injuries who are Arsenal or Chelsea's ready made replacements ?

I havn't seen a single poster say that we shouldn't buy anyone. More over that it wouldn't be the end of the world if we don't get our targets which is exactly what NC and NA have both said. There is no point buying for the sake of buying, only if you can bring in better than you already have. Spend some time looking a the squads of other teams in our league and then say this squad isn't strong enough. Most of our subs would walk into most sides easily

Alpine - naturally you are allowed your opinions, but by God you're getting tedious, bothersome and provoking.

Sorry to be annoying you, but I see my position as being the Ying to NickG and Turkish's Yang; why dont you find them also tedious, bothersome and provoking, because they are "positive" ?

You're wasting your time mate, we've had this 1000 times on other threads but Alpine knows best, because he hears the odd match report and keeps himself informed, lol.

if he is not going to be available I am sure Adkins will make contingency plans for our current 3rd choice forward.

Yes current squad is stronger than all rivals and good enough to win league - just ask Nigel!

Alpine, the thing you just don't get is tht NickG/Turkish etc are voicing the opinions of the majority of Saints fans in terms of being positive!

I've been watching Saints since 1980 and am more excited about going to a league game now than I have been for at least 10 yrs.

Attractive football, positive vibe, strong squad... I'm really enjoying it right now.

Then I peruse this board and see your comments and suddenly being a Saints fan becomes boring again.

Stop stealing everyone's mojo with your bizarre pessimism. You live in Austria and never go to a game - you know jack about what's going on. You should be using this board to gain a bit of knowledge about how Saints are doing.. not forever shove your blind negativity down our throats.

I would put you on ignore but unfortunately you contribute so often to threads that they don't make any sense if I block you.

So instead PLEASE PLEASE shut the f u c k up!!

I hate to say it (becuase I understand peoples frustration with Alpine), but just becuase most people are feeling postive doesn't mean Alpine has to. This is a message board it's about opinions Alpines (no matter how bizzare they can be) are no less wrong/right as anybody elses opinions. There's rather alot of playing the man not the ball going on with Alpine at the moment.

I'd rather see reasoned debate than people telling people to shut the F uck up (and I'll hold my hands up to being guilty of that too though I try not to)

I'm wth Alpine. We need to working hard to bring in the best available talent and we need to be doing this all the time. Resting on your laurels and thinking this squad is the best we can do is folly. It can always be improved, it may not be,but we should always be trying.

I think also what Alpine means is that we should be actively chasing players right now not waiting till ours have left the building. Of course in answer to that, Adkins has said that they have made bids for players, so in effect they are chasing talent. I think the question is Alpine, what what more do you want them to be doing or once again do you think that our efforts are half hearted affairs? Genune question by the way.

Imust say that we do seem to have this this same discussion/arguement in every window. (you) Alpine bemoans the apparent lack effort to make signings and others point out that no one knows how much work is going on in the background and how many offers are being knocked back.

So rattling fences - 1 year Could be classed as incitement, fair enough

lobbing a fire extinguisher off a roof - 3 years I think this is a little lenient, the c*nt could have killed someone

breaking your hand on someones face - ??? 25 years?

He used a weapon, just because he is a saints player doesn't make it any less illegal

We need replacements Alps, but it is unrealistic to believe we can have replacements for all of our best players just in case they pick up injuries etc.

Do Arsenal have a tried and tested replacement for Cesc ? No

Do Chelsea have tried and tested replacements for Essien and Lampard ? No

End of the day if we had a player capable of picking up where Lallana left off he would either be playing or angling for a move elsewhere.

Every football fan in the country worries about their best players getting injured, we won't be any different. Lets just wait and see what happens over January. IMO we will sign a few people especially IF we lose Punch/Barnard etc. But i don't think we will be spending willy nilly.

I often wonder who would be the first person to kick up a fuss if we signed 5-6 players that don't end up playing and so sit around wasting money ??

Just to be clear i am not "yang" as Alpine put it, blindingly backing the club regardless of what goes on on or off the pitch. In fact only around a month ago i posted a thread that compared to this time last year in terms of points gained and performances we had not progressed and many of our wins had not been conivincing. The absolutely superb form overr christmas and new year has changed my view on that as we have been outstanding, beating teams easily and the team seems to be really clicking into gear. The fact that we could make 8 changes and still comfortably beat an albeit weakened premier league side shows taht we have a very strong squad who are all playing well and are good enough to get promotion, like any squad a couple of top notch signings for this league wont harm out chances, like any club in the world if players better than you have are available then it would be foolish not to buy them. Some people seem to forget we are in league one though and seem to think we need a squad for of 35 world beaters with top notch players sitting around collection big wages incase we get injuries

In contrast, Alpine is negative about absolutely everything. After the 4-1 win against Huddersfield, Alpines comments were "we all know we will f*ck it up against Exeter and Dagenham" i think that just sums up the attitude of the man. I thing that what winds most people us is the fact that he doesn't go to games, has never seen the team play and says he informs himself off this website, yet regardless of what the current view is his comments are always negative to the point where it appears he enjoys us losing or failing, so he can say "i told you so". I fail to understand who someone who doesn't go to games an relies on this messageboard to "inform" himself can be so argumentative against the people he claims to rely on.

Anyway enough of this, i'm off to the Rapid Vienna forum to tell them that they will lose today, their squad is to weak to win the Austian league and they wont make the champions league unless they sign 9 new players.

Of course teams in possibly should enhance their squads if the management have the finances and have identified potential signings who maybe willing to join us although I am not sure that Man U will be doing so as Fergie may think his squad is good enough.

SFC are in a different situation because we need to recruit high quality Championship if we are to progress next season which cost higher wages and may not at the moment be willing to join a League 1 side where promotion is highly likely but not guaranteed.

So as we don’t know all the facts I think we should leave it to the Club's management as they seem to be doing a good job at the moment.

Having a large squad brings its own problems but it is obviously it is better than having a small one.

There will no doubt be injuries suspensions and loss of form but we have a large pool of talented footballers and we need to give our youngsters a chance to play in the first team

If I was a young footballer looking for an academy I would want to go to a club where I have a chance of playing as opposed to the First Team being full of bought in players

Thats actually quite funny for you.

BTW, I go and see Saints whenever I have the opportunity, so stop mis-representing my situation as "he never goes to games and never sees the team play".

Also, I have never been convinced by the argument that watching a whole game in the stadium necessarily gives you a better impression of the team than watching it on TV or a live stream, which I have done on many occasions since my last visit to SMS.

You need 20-24 good players, not 35 average ones. Buying "one for the squad" or "cover" players leads to trouble. THis was the transfer policy we had in and leading up to our relegation season, we ended up with a massive squad of players not good enough for the premier league but on premier league wages. Rather than spending £4m and £30k a week on a player to improve the first team we ended up with the likes of McCann, kenton, Van Damme, Nielsen & Jaccobsen whose wages and transfers alone would have probably have covered the signing of two decent PL players. The only player we signed between relegation the cup final who were better than what we have were Phillips and Crouch and he was a gamble as he had failed at VIlla.

I've got to say, thinking about what happened and the charge, it doesn't make sense.

ABH is generally used for bruising, small cuts etc. By all accounts Barnard smashed the **** out of this guy. I am guessing that part of the fight was seen as self defence because there is no doubt in my mind that this is a GBH case (by injury).

I would confirm this but my Criminal Law books are in the garage in boxes and I really can't be arsed to get them out.

I'm not criticsing you going to see Saints, if l lived abroad i would hardly see them either, in fact when i lived in Yorkshire for 18 months 12 years ago i only made about 6 or 7 games one season. What i find hard to understand is you say you use this forum to inform yourself, fair enough, yet argue the toss with anyone who is willing yet expect everyone to accept your opinion.
