Holidays for kids as single parent

Planning on taking my boys away somewhere warm and beachlike in June (during term time... tut tut).

The eldest has been to Greece before (as have I, many times) so that's kinda first choice at the moment. I would be going by myself with them (both boys, will be aged 6 and 3 at the time).

Want to spend around £1k for 5 to 7 days or so. Suggestions anyone?

Magaluf. There are random trampolines dotted about for kids during the day but I'm sure you could leave your kids there at night whilst you go out on the pull. Win/win situation.

I don't think you've quite appreciated the entire scope of the question, but I appreciate your enthusiasm for getting me laid...

I took my two here as a single dad a couple of years ago when they were 5 and 4. Good beach 300m away, waterpark nearby, kids club and evening entertainment. Its an apartment in a hotel, so you get the best of both. http://www.hotelsviva.com/en/hotel/viva-sunrise.html

Thinking of trying this one near Palma this year http://www.hotelsviva.com/en/hotel/viva-palmanova.html

Also went to Benidorm with them which was much better than I feared, really good theme park nearby which they loved and Menorca, also good.

Look at Stoupa. Mainland Greece southern Pelopponese. Lovely place not very commercialised at all. Have local contacts if interested.

Don't take the p*ss. Baj isn't daft - he can tell that you are just making up names of places.

Parga's very nice for families. A few years ago we went to a tiny little place called Porto Germano (quite near Corinth) - very unspoilt but perhaps a bit too quiet for younger children.

As buctootim says, you need somewhere with loads for kids to do. To hell with culture for a week, try somewhere like Salou where you have the huge Portaventura theme park which you can waste at least 3 days visiting, and also take them about an hour north on the train and visit Barcelona and let them look round Camp Nou (if they are into football) and all the other attractions there.

Once on the canal there's not much more in the way of expenses and I promise you Baj, the kids will be absolutely whacked out, leaving you and any other grown-ups to down beer, take stock of life and be contant with your lot. I cannot put it into words. Tell 'em mrs b.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

The hotel buctootim mentions at the top looks great actually, and is "do-able" on budget flying from bournemouth. I aint going on no narrow boat....

Thanks for greece suggestions, especially parga, but been there before (and yeah, it is lovely)

Our parents took us 3 there qwhen we were 19, 8 and 3 and we loved it. Portaventura wasn't built then but there was a massive water park and the beach is great, we did the Barcelona visit also, brilliant holiday.

The Sun do a great offer for a week in a caravan at one of their selected parks dotted around the country for £9.50, just collect the vouchers. That'll give you £990.50 to spend on a razor.

I'd happily donate £200 towards getting you comedy lessons

Did you look at Eurocamp Baj? Did that a few times when kids were young. You turn up everything is there.

You decide how you want to tour around and then spend 2/3 nights in different places so lots to see & do. Fav for us was The Dordogne, simple stuff, canoeing on the river etc and Italy. We flew in & out of Venice cheap rented wheels and did Lake Como, Gerona etc then down to Chiantshire between Rome & Sienna.

The campsites have Kids clubs which also gives you a few hours each day you have all the cooking for the great adventure BBQ each night. By linking their web sites with a good Lonely Planet you can plan some great day out's at each site

Did France from St Malo, Loire Valley kids worn out swimming or exploring Chateau & then sipping the regions finest with a good book & Mosquito repellant

As I got older & Grumpier we used their Mobile Home stuff also great. If you drive then pack a fishing rod beach gear and go.

Not sure they do Greece though. But plus side always thousands of Dutch in the campsites to chat with in the evenings

Baj, I know that you said somewhere warm, but is there no where in this country that might do?

Not really mate, mainly as I want to do it in june and the weather is a real gamble, could be lovely like last year or **** like most years. Plus my kids are perfectly happy to fly / drive all day so the continent is easy. Added to that that Ive got the money and time to get them away, and *i* sorta would prefer to be on a foreign beach somewhere too

The Sun holidays mentioned above, if you go to France, are actually Keycamp/Eurocamp (same company) holidays. We went to one outside Paris in the Autumn, 3 bedroom Keycamp caravan on a great site. We've just booked another one in May in the Loire. £250 for two adults, two children and return ferry crossing on the fastcat from Portsmouth to Caen for a week. Fantastic value for money.

Keycamp/Eurocamp holidays are good value in the first place. We had another holiday with Keycamp earlier last year as well. I'm definitely a convert (doing 10 nights all inclusive in the Canaries this summer as well though).

Lake Garde in Italy. Got a theme park there, loads if sites for the Sun caravan thing and the weather will be stunning. Fly to Milan and hire a car (cheap).

Have been thinking along these lines this morning

Yep and they have loads of campsites near beaches or on lakes. We went down near Biaritz and the Atlantic coast - camp site was by a lake behind the dunes had beach, canoeing & windsurfing lessons.

Also went through Provence which has loads of sites and gives the chance to mix beaches with a trip to Wine Mecca - Chateau-Neuf-Du-Pape 8)

I guess they've had a zillion name changes since I last did it about 8 years ago

Baj, consider somewhere like this. http://www.camping-la-garangeoire.com/en/index_en.htm - lots to do (lots of it free) and quite reasonable to hire a cabin. Don't go through Eurocamp as they charge a large premium, book directly with the campsite.

Despite what they say about the proximity to the beach it's only 40 minutes drive to St Jean de Monts which has a fabulous beach

You're very clever you know, why on earth do you waste your talents on this forum?

thanks. No need to thank me for my suggestion of THompson Al Fresco, seriously and not taking the p*ss its very reasonable and kids love it, my old boss takes the family to one in /near Lazio every year.
