trousers Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 officialsaints Saints FC Addicks Date Switched – Again! Saints home match vs Charlton has been moved for a second time. Full story -> http://bit.ly/gnhNWK #saintsfc "The Football League initially agreed the date of Tuesday 25th January, however, upon request from Charlton, reconsidered this and a new date has now been set for Tuesday 5th April, kick off 7.45pm." Mind games from Charlton....?
trousers Posted 14 January, 2011 Author Posted 14 January, 2011 What on earth are they playing at? A cynical conspiracy theorist might venture that Charlton have one or two 'marquee' signings lined up for the end of the month and didn't want to play us beforehand....or some players coming back from injury....
Colinjb Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 For pities sake. Just re-arranged work for the earlier one.... No way am I asking to re-arrange again. They will think i'm taking the p*ss just as much as the bloody league.
trousers Posted 14 January, 2011 Author Posted 14 January, 2011 This is going to bugger up our FA Cup Semi-Final planning now....sheesshh
eurosaint Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Whoopee, would have missed the 25th Jan but can do the 5th April ! Good for some, not for others, as per usual !!
Weston Saint Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Bloody nuisance. I could have made 25th Jan but cannot make 5th April.
Liquidshokk Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Surely there are rules preventing teams from shifting games around as they please to suit their injury problems / potential signing dates?!!? You cant just put off a game against a team you fear because you dont feel your team is up to it at the present time surely.

Colinjb Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 This is going to bugger up our FA Cup Semi-Final planning now....sheesshh Actually, fair point. We will be rested for the cup game. Manure will not.... playing Blackpool away on the 25th and then home to Villa the following Tuesday. I will expect them to be fielding some reserves against our first 11.
trousers Posted 14 January, 2011 Author Posted 14 January, 2011 Actually, fair point. We will be rested for the cup game. Yeah, but we'll be knackered when it comes to the semi-final in mid-April..... ;-)
eelpie Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Whoopee, would have missed the 25th Jan but can do the 5th April ! Good for some, not for others, as per usual !! Yep. B****r! Can't make that date either! (My earlier post re my discontent that STH's cannot get refunds but others can when dates are re-arranged is still at boiling point) Deffo gamesmanship by Charlton to delay till their new manager is bedded in, and to increase our late season fixture congestion to their advantage. What reason did Charlton give? Saints should complain.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 FFS already arranged to get work off that week.
hutch Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 They reckon we'll already be promoted by then, so might go easy on them.
trousers Posted 14 January, 2011 Author Posted 14 January, 2011 I must admit, I did think it was unusual for a postponed game to be brought forward when the original re-arranged date was set. Perhaps Charlton argued that it was "unfair" for a game to be played earlier than originally scheduled, and at relatively short notice, as I'm sure teams start the early stages of the planning process for each game a bit more than 2 or 3 weeks beforehand (e.g. going to watch opponent's preceding games)
Liquidshokk Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 The article on the charlton site makes it sound like its our decision, because of man u game.
Colinjb Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 The article on the charlton site makes it sound like its our decision, because of man u game. Makes sense to me!
trousers Posted 14 January, 2011 Author Posted 14 January, 2011 The article on the charlton site makes it sound like its our decision, because of man u game. Hmmm....the plot thickens....both sides being very categoric that it was the other who requested the swap.... Saints: "The Football League initially agreed the date of Tuesday 25th January, however, upon request from Charlton, reconsidered this and a new date has now been set for Tuesday 5th April, kick off 7.45pm." Charlton: "The Saints are unable to host the Addicks on Saturday, January 29th because they have progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup and are due to face Manchester United that weekend instead."
Barry the Badger Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Maybe someone on the OS jumped the gun?
trousers Posted 14 January, 2011 Author Posted 14 January, 2011 Makes sense to me! It makes sense from a 'resting the players' perspective (if we want to concentrate on the cup that week for some unfathomable reason.....) but it's not a good enough reason for the Football League I'd have thought - playing on a Tuesday and Saturday is pretty normal stuff these days. Indeed, Man Utd have a game midweek anyway.... Hey ho

Actually, ignore me....that Charlton quote is about the original date (29th), not the first rescehduled date (25th). The Charlton article today doesn't even mention the original rescheduled date so perhaps it was never confirmed by the Football League in the first place....? Taxi for Trousers

Charlton make it sound like the 5th of April date is replacing the 29th Jan whereas this had actually already been rearranged for 25th so it is charlton pulling out this time.

aintforever Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Maybe Saints tried to slip it in early so they played a managerless Charlton and they were having none of it.
Red And White Barmy Army Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 why have they been allowed to do this ffs, its at our home as well. By then they will have a manager in place with a settled team and theres the possibility of them having a stronger squad and ours minus chamberlain. did we not think of putting up a little protest? of course it could backfire and we actually strengthen our squad and they lose some players and the 'new manager effect'. just seems like it's their fault for getting rid of a perfectly good manager and then moaning about having to play games before they appoint a new gaffer.
Doctoroncall Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Whoopee, would have missed the 25th Jan but can do the 5th April ! Good for some, not for others, as per usual !! Bugger, can't make either date! Hoping for another re-schedule of this match.
John Boy Saint Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 They reckon we'll already be promoted by then, so might go easy on them. Nope it will be secured the following weekend away at Orient just as it has the last 2 times we have sealed promotion.
Lets B Avenue Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 The long range weather forcast predicts an icy touchline. Andy D'Urso has called it off early to save people making another wasted journey.
Chez Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Happy with that. In terms of trying to get there in time after work, it will be a damn sight easier for me in April (lighter and less chance of rain) than it is in January.
sandwichsaint Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 I bet D'Urso is involved somewhere ....
Tom28 Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 They've just appointed Chris Powell - there goes their chances at promotion. Doesn't matter when we play them now.
Jones91 Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Right thats it! Definately attacking their escort to the station now...
Whitey Grandad Posted 20 January, 2011 Posted 20 January, 2011 I was talking last night to somebody who had a ticket for the Charlton game and did not know that the game had been moved to April. Had I not said anything she would have turned up next Tuesday to find the stadium closed. I wonder how may others there are like her?
OurClaus Posted 20 January, 2011 Posted 20 January, 2011 just to clear this up, i was chatting to a friend who works at the club... as far as changing the date goes, it was our decision because of the fa cup game (having a full house, catering for a prem team, on tv and lots of other things we havnt had to do for a good year now) , charlton were merely agreed to re-arrange.... cant really blame them unfortunately

GazzerMaBoy Posted 21 January, 2011 Posted 21 January, 2011 For anyone who now cannot make the second re-arranged date, I'd be interested in buying your ticket off you. Ironically I couldn't make either one of the previous dates for this fixture. PM me if you're interested in selling. Cheers.

GazzerMaBoy Posted 25 January, 2011 Posted 25 January, 2011 I didn't realise they still had some left..... and to be honest I stupidly didn't even think of enquiring!
