docker-p Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 Am I alone in not being the least bit excited about the Man U game? Loads of JCL Saints fans sitting around me at best, Dads with their Man U supporting kids at worse. £30 a ticket, when it's on TV, why bother? It's just a distraction we don't need. I'm much more looking forward to Notts County, Tranmere Rovers and Charlton.
Mustapha Fag Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 im hearing you docker and starting to feel the same way, maybe when its a bit closer it may change
Colinjb Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 I personally am thriving in the hope that we can at least give them a game this time..... not roll over like the previous eleven that soiled our colours against the plastics.
Matthew Le God Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 If this needs to be said, could it not have been in the 8 page long Man Utd ticket thread, rather than all on its own?
sfc4prem Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 I feel the same way. League is priority and I'm pretty happy we'll be out against the scum. Concentrate on getting out of this sh*thole.
doddisalegend Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 I see it as a chance to test ourselves againt the best team in England. I'm not expecting us to win (although you never know) I'll be happy if we give them a good game and make it close. I'm looking forward to it though. Sorry.
Stud mark of doom Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 I will luv it if we beat them. Simple as that.
Deppo Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 Last time we played them in the cup, it was the only game I couldn't be bothered to go to all season.
Appy Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 Would rather win any of our upcoming league games than beat them. But still to beat them and stick one by the plastic mancs that live in Andover would be ****ing fantastic.
Scudamore Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 People referring to our own fans as "plastic" is pretty zzz for me. The atmosphere wasn't the best when we played them last time because of what happened on the pitch not because of who was in the stands.
hoozonside10 Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 My son wants to go, he's 7 and a saints fan already, I've brought him to a few games this season and he loves it...BUT he is still fascinated by Rooney/Ferdinand/Berbatov etc.. as they are the ones everyone at his school wants to be when playing football and he is getting excited at the thought of seeing them play against Saints. So when/if we go to this game I just know he will be asking "Where's Rooney/Ferdinand/Berbatov" several times during the match and I'll get all the hardcore uber fans giving me the hard stare - so please bear this in mind before assuming all the kids are man u fans - obviously some will, but others are just going to be Saints fans who are a bit "star-struck" as they weren't around in our premiership days and it's all new to them
NorthamSteve Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 (edited) I certainly have mixed emotions. On the one hand I really really hope that our very good L1 side don't find themselves up against a very in form United side that could potentially rip anyone a new one on their day and spoil the confidence. And on the other hand, if we can manage to get a result, of any kind, it'll be a massive achievement and great for the lads. I think I'll go actually. Edited 13 January, 2011 by NorthamSteve
BadgerBadger Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 It's what football is all about, a chance to play a massive team, it'll be a biggy for the players/management and it'll be a biggy for the fans. It'll be good to see world class players and see how we do against them, it's the magic of the cup, we can give them a run for their money and I've bought a lottery ticket for the game in the hope I can say I was there when we beat them. Sooo many jaded fans.

Nexstar Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 Not really looking forward to it. Just another game at home in the cup, would have gone if it was Burton Albion or United.
VectisSaint Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 I just know he will be asking "Where's Rooney/Ferdinand/Berbatov" several times during the match There's a good chance lots of people will be asking where Rooney/Ferdinand/Berbatov are during the match. Good chance one, two or more will not be playing. Depends how seriously Fergie takes the game. Rooney especially has to be a doubt. Good chance too that even if Berbatov does play no-one will notice him :-) Just hope we put up a decent show against them, doubt we will win but really can't be bothered to go. Don't have a problem with the cup just would have preferred someone a bit different or more interesting. Would have been interesting to see us play Arsenal, for instance since they are a much better footballing side and would have allowed us to play to our strengths. We will probably be put out by a goal from United in the 10th minute of Fergie time, or a dubious penalty - is Webb refereeing? Good luck at the game, hope your nipper enjoys...

Last time Saints played Man Utd, VDS, Vidic, Berbatov, Nani, Anderson, Carrick, Neville, Rooney etc all played. Saints were also weaker opponents in the 2008/09 Championship relegation season compared to how they will be in a few weeks. I doubt Fergie will rest many players, too much of a potential banana skin to make too many changes.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 Thread of the Year. Announce it now. Done. Dusted. Signed. Sealed. Delivered.

Thinks its now the 3rd time we have been drawn at home to them in the last 6 years.

ericb Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 I'd have quite liked a mid table championship club just to see how far we'd progressed in recent months. Failing that an an away day at a new ground would've been nice too, preferably a London one since they tend to be a good laugh when we take a lot. Still going to the United game but i'm not massively fussed about it as i think we'll get beaten. I just hope we play well and don't have any injuries.

I doubt Fergie will rest many players, too much of a potential banana skin to make too many changes. I'm with you on this - there is no way Fergie will bring a weak squad. It will be a full strength side, no doubt about it. He hates us - 6-3, 3-1 Grey shirts, first Prem side to be knocked out of the cup on Pens, the lot. We'll given them a bl**dy good game, mind.
Rut Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 FFS - I'm just pee-ed off that people say 'Fergie'. That's a media thing - the manager of Man Utd is blah..... double FFS it's not 'Fergie'.

SaintBobby Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 I'm bothered about it. Wouldn't mind losing. But, I'm taking some JCLs to the game. May convert them. Win. Win.
simo Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 I'm not going due to the fact you have to get a carlise ticket too don't they know there is a recession on at the moment?

dune Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Hope we win, but decided against going because i'd rather watch a league game instead.
dellgirl Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Not usually glass half empty person but all I can see are injuries and tired minds and bodies after the boys play above their level, fail and are deflated for next few matches and it affects the league, SO hope I am wrong and they draw or win !
Shroppie Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Can't make the game anyway because of family commitments and was initially disappointed, but now just can't seem to care. Result is unimportant as long as it doesn't affect confidence. Avoiding injuries is important. I hope we play the same team that beat Blackpool, less AL. Going to both Tranmere and Hartlepool away instead and looking forward to both.
Alejam Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 I'm going to the game to watch the Saints play, the same as i did when we played Shrewsbury, Cheltenham and Blackpool couldn't give a toss its Man Ure to be honest.
Patrick Bateman Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 If this needs to be said, could it not have been in the 8 page long Man Utd ticket thread, rather than all on its own? No, because most of us don't have time to wade through pages and pages of posts so have no idea if it's been posted or not. Thread Police.
merrimd Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 No you're not alone. It has to be the one of the most boring draws we could have got. Thinks its now the 3rd time we have been drawn at home to them in the last 6 years. Really cant see how the best team in the land coming to our stadium can be "boring". Seriously. It may not thrill the life out of you, but it is hardly boring is it?
thefunkygibbons Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 I always want to win the next game So when this one comes around, I will be hoping for the win
Phil the Saint Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Been going regulalry since early 1970's and still believe in the magic of the F.A. Cup. Looking forward to the game and the chance of a shock result.
Saint_clark Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 If this needs to be said, could it not have been in the 8 page long Man Utd ticket thread, rather than all on its own? This.
