Thedelldays Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 I mean..wow as close as total football as league 1 could get.....we just seem to be brushing people over cortese sure knows what he is doing going after this fella.. just smashing teams now...and can go top sat (if brighton lose)
Minsk Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 ....and when you consider that the players don't perform for him...... imagine how good we'll be when they do I agree with you TDD, he has got the team playing excellent football. Very happy we have him (as I always have been).
CanadaSaint Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 He's doing it, for the most part, with another manager's players - good players, indeed, but not his choices. Good managers can add style, and good managers can add steel. But he's added style AND steel. Delighted with him.
benjii Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 I would reply in agreement but the forum is too horse-****, hairy ********, smelly ****, god awful, ****-nut sheeeeiiiiiitttte
dubai_phil Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 I honestly cannot believe tonights performance. We just keep battling then tearing teams apart. Luckily I announced myself as being whelmed by his appointment. Now I think it could be (in Whispering Dave's own words) the best football I've listened to since WGS's best days. I am now officially overwhelmed at his appointment. Hope we don't lose him to Man City.
Dig Dig Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 I can't remember a manager making such an impact so soon in my lifetime of supporting saints!
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 He also said, 'Barcelona, watch out', and 'If they were in the Champions League, you'd have to bet on them winning it'. Take everything he says with a pinch of salt, and enjoy the fact that he is funny.
saint_jas Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Rated Adkins at Scunny so was quite glad when we got him. But yeah he has got the guys playing flipping brilliant at the moment. Can't wait for the next match against Notts now.
mitch01 Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Since Novak gave Huddersfield the lead at our place we have hit 19 and conceded just 1. I for one had 'that sinking feeling' when he scored, I was less than optimistic about our season, but now look at us. Well done to everyone associated with the club, especially NA.
Redondo Saint Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 (edited) Great result! Let's not get too euphoric in case the next game ends like Brentford,,,, I think we have a good set-up in finance, business, management, players and infrastructure, but let's keep feet on the ground and remain humble. However, what a great scoreline and let's enjoy our biggest win for some time! Edited 11 January, 2011 by Redondo Saint Danger of sounding Alpinesque
S-Clarke Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 He's done a great job so far. Everything is set for us to continue this form too. Oldham fans say we're the best team they've ever seen at this level in their 14 years here.
ottery st mary Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 I must admit I was underwhelmed at his signing... But has proved me wrong.. Well Done our Nigel .. Well done Uncle Nic..

Oldham fans say we're the best team they've ever seen at this level in their 14 years here. Probably because it's a travesty this club is in this position in the first place. With the money we have and the players we've brought in, this statement should be said by pretty much all fans after we've played their team in this league.

Thedelldays Posted 11 January, 2011 Author Posted 11 January, 2011 were you there then? Why? What if I was?
Jonnyboy Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Why? What if I was? you posted something similar last season after beating brizzle at theirs, are we more "total" football now then?
Thedelldays Posted 11 January, 2011 Author Posted 11 January, 2011 you posted something similar last season after beating brizzle at theirs, are we more "total" football now then? Yes thanks PS.. Not too sure if you get this football malarky.. But it is possible to play better
Thedelldays Posted 11 January, 2011 Author Posted 11 January, 2011 so you were there. thanks. Why do you care? Why don't you ask the countless others who have commented here on how great we are
SNSUN Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Twas the snowfall that seems to have kick started this run of form. Missing a few games away seems to have done us wonders. Brings about another discussion on the benefits of a winter break. Another time perhaps. Can't fault Adkins so far. He realised we were short in midfield and brought in Chaplow. If we keep this form up, Man U should genuinely watch out. Bravo Nige, if you get us promoted, we'll love you always.
Saintandy666 Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 I think any worries people had about the large amount of away games at the type of grounds that we have struggled on this season and last have been dispelled over the last few weeks. Well done Adkins, well done Saints
Leslie Charteris Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 To paraphrase George Orwell, "Pardew good, Adkins better".
Under Weststand Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 I was hopeful he'd have this type of effect on us as he had a good reputation at Scunny of playing football the right way. He has got everyone playing the right way now & we seem to have an excellent team spirit. NC looks to have made the right choice & NA seems to have the golden touch long may it continue. Well done Nigel !!
saintscottofthenortham Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 It's been such a pleasure not hearing the pitch excuse. Now we go to places and just get on with it. Cannot believe we went there and won 6-0. Absolutely fantastic. I was impressed by Scunny a few years back down SMS, somehow we won 1-0 but the truly played us off the park. The thing is, I think there is even more to come. The lads are only just bedding down with NA's style. Although he is a bit of a nut at times in his interviews, says some right random stuff and likes to repeat himself, I think he could turn out to be a football genius.
St Marco Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 Adkins has/is doing very very well. He seems a nice genuine guy who tries to tell it like it is. You can feel the positivity he radiates. And for me that is the biggest difference to the club. As he says it is just three points ad the end of the day. It is what happens over the next few months what really matters and i think we could be starting to hit form at the right time. If we can stay injury free i have no doubt Adkins will go on to help us win the league this year. Keep up the good work it is as simple as that!
Ken Tone Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 Apparently most of the Oldham fans were saying Do Prado should get himself a taxi. Whereas we all know he is actually on the bus.
Special K Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 I must admit I was underwhelmed at his signing... But has proved me wrong.. Well Done our Nigel .. Well done Uncle Nic.. Same here. He's proved the doubters (including me) wrong and i'm glad to be proved wrong. Well done Nigel, long may it continue.
Papa Shango Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 We played some good stuff under Pardew, but IMO Adkins has taken us to another level in recent weeks. Oldham weren't even that bad last night, but we made them look ordinary. Haven't heard much from those fans who were wrongly slagging of Cortese after he got rid of Pardew. I thought at the time he knew what he was doing, and that's been proved right. I think Adkins will end up being Liverpool manager in the future, but not for a while. I've no doubt him and Cortese will take us back where we belong in no time at all. The football at the moment is just a joy to watch, it'll take a huge disaster for us not to get promoted this season now.
Dellman Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 Who was it on this site that said Adkins had 'lost the dressing room'?
ottery st mary Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 Who was it on this site that said Adkins had 'lost the dressing room'? Since then someone showed him the route and he gets there everytime now..
Dan Johnson Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 Was gutted when Pardew Left Was underwelmed when Adkins took over After the recent performances I'M ON THE BUS!!!! Nigel ADKINS RED & WHITE ARMY!!!!!!

wightman35 Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 I have been on the bus ever since Nigel arrived in the building and it is still only three points at the end of the day. Fantastic!
Greenridge Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 Since then someone showed him the route and he gets there everytime now.. He's got a GPS fitted to his bus now. Like many I was a little underwhelmed by his appointment but glad to be proved wrong. Still can't quite shake the Brentford game out of my mind but maybe it was just a nightmare and never really happened.
Minty Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 Haven't heard much from those fans who were wrongly slagging of Cortese after he got rid of Pardew. I think it's fair to say that quite a lot of us were very doubtful about Cortese's actions at the time, and of course none of us still know exactly what happened. I'll readily admit that, based on the information to hand (i.e. nothing) I was very concerned about the move. Some were more vocal than others (understatement!) but I think despite this, most reasonable folk, even if they were critical of Cortese, remained open minded and chose to judge the action on the outcome and how the new manager fared. Now, we don't quite yet have an "outcome" but there is no doubt in my mind that Adkins will deliver promotion, and the way we seem to be going about it should, by now, have 99.9% of Saints fans more than happy that the ends will justify the means. All I would add is that I sincerely hope we can stop this apparent need to rake over old ground and old opinions, seemingly just to have a pop at people who had a criticism or opinion that has proved wrong. We ALL get things wrong from time to time. All that matters now is where we are and where we're going. Not to mention that we're going there on Nigel's bus...!
Crab Lungs Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 What I want to know is... where is SISA these days? Surely they can't be happy with the way the club is run?
Tom28 Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 I'll reserve judgement until the end of the season, but on recent performances, he appears to be doing a great job. That said, until the last four or five games, our performances had been way off from the heights we hit at times last season. I don't want to be a killjoy, but all teams have good and bad patches, and this most definitely is a good patch. The question will be how many points we pick up in bad patches, and we will have another bad patch this season. In fairness to Adkins, when we had the patch of games where we were putting in inconsistent performances 5-10 games ago, we were still picking up some points. I still feel one or two more players of real quality are needed - on the wing for sure. Alex Chamberlain is 17 and whilst he's been superb, he will hit a wall at some point between now and the end of the season, and we need a real quality replacement for him when that happens. Maybe I'm just being a bit negative, but we're still only second, and we're still in amongst the pack. Two or three losses and a couple of draws over a five game spell and we'll find ourselves outside the playoffs again. The last four or five games though have been absolutely superb and re-invigorated the fans at just the right time. Keep it going.
