Oldham V Saints - Post Match Celebration Thread

Some oldham fans views just for the hell of it:

true they were awesome. but its like i have all ways said money talks

Terrible, but all credit to saints, they are immense!!

played us off the park

even if we were on form we would have got no where near them

Sry to say but i came away at 3 nil as i could see more goals coming. We gave them too much respect, and had no answers for their quick passing and pace and also their strikers who score goals. SAINTS are Champions for me by far.

First time this season we have properly been outclassed and thats an understatement. All were poor.Too many wasted clearances and wayward meaaninless passes. No player did anything to earn praise.Southampton will go up.They are well organised, had a game plan by making our fullbacks look poor, were slick, made their passes count and knew where the nets were.

they are a fantastic team who play football and take their chances. I thought last season they where good when they came to BP but this eason they will go up as Champions on that peformance. They blitzed us away and maybe we have too mnay young players.

Tonight we played a bloody good team - with a couple of Premiership quality players. We fielded our strongest side and we were soundly trounced - but its not the end of the season. We are still capable of making a bid for the last playoff berth. Other than Southampton - the rest are not that much better than us. We need to get behind our young team. Keep the faith.

seriously though we've been in this Division 14 years and I have never seen a team as good as the one we faced tonight, we did very little wrong tonight until it got to 3-0 then we just threw the towel in and brought on Brooke, Millar and Feeney.

Absolutely fantastic result and finally, finally we are delivering consistently - so uinlike under Pardew last season when we would repeatedly norse up fixtures like this and destroy all momentum. Well done NA, well done lads. Makes Notts County a 'should win' game rather than a 'must win' game. Pressure is off abit and confidence is high. Lets stay on it and keep wanting it more than the other team and there will be more huge wins this season!!

What a great result & performance, so often before we've gone to tough places like this and struggled. But we just seem to be getting on a roll now, full of confidence sticking to Adkins footballing principles & not allowing the playing surface conditions to dictate the result to us. Great to see the goals spread around as well. Good interview on Sky sports news also "feet firmly on the floor great team ethic" Fabulous long may it continue.

Listening to the highlights and reflecting on Saturday's win, it's clear that Lambert is contributing just as much to the team this season as he did last, but with assists, rather than goals. His link play has set up or led to so many of our goals, he deserves massive credit. Goals will always grab headlines, and strikers are usually judged on the goals they score, but Lambert is playing brilliantly at the moment and the fact they we're not relying on him alone to score has improved the team immensely. Glad he got a goal as just reward tonight too.

Lambo is a changed man recently, that break over the xmas period has done him the world of good. He looks slimmer, quicker, sharper and fitter and that's why we've started to win handsomely again.

Last season he was still pretty hot on assists though, 23 assists in all comps I think which shows how important he is to us. Glad to have him back.

Yes definately. Pardew had one thing right, this guy will go down as a southampton legend. Ricky has been awesome recently. Not just a goalscorer.

WTF? We were going mental listening to the radio!!! Six away goals from six different scorers? That is unbelievable!!! When Barnard came on at 5-0 you just knew he was going to net the 6th. Important goal too as it gives us a better GD than Brighton.

I'm glad Lambert scored too, he's been getting so much better now and is looking much more hungry for goals.

This is promotion form. That was an immense performance tonight.

Love that quote!

The real test will be whether we can continue this away form against Tranmere. That's exactly the sort of game we'd usually lose ;)

I went to Tranmere away last season. Now THAT game was a disaster, Saints never showed up, one of a number of performances of that ilk. After seeing that tonight though, i'm confident we'll get a better result.

As a Bitterne lad in exile in the frozen wastes of Lancashire for the last 10 years, this was the first time I'd got to see the boys twice in a fortnight, having been at the Huddersfield game at home in December. Got home a few hours ago and have been grinning like a Cheshire cat ever since. We really were a class above tonight. Looking at the forum earlier, there were a lot of people saying they'd take a draw away at Oldham as it's a tough place to get a result. If that's the case, no one told the players. We looked confident and sharp and could've had more. Admitedly, the first goal via a handball from Rickie that we were probably in the best position to see and their keeper had a howler for the second. It would've been interesting to see what would have happened if they'd scored instead of hitting the post when we were 2-0 up early in the second half.

Davis had pretty much nowt to do but did it all the same, fullbacks were fine, Jaidi was rocksolid and Fonte was class, he never looks like getting beaten in the air. Chaplow was his usual, industrious, aggressive and got round the pitch. Chamberlain and Lallana were what we've come to expect from them, too quick and skilled on the ball for the Oldham players. Schneiderlin really got stuck in tonight and made some hefty challenges - it was interesting that there was discussion about his future at the club on here earlier...he is, without question, the player we have with the greatest vision and tonight he showed that he can mix it physically with League 1 level players. I believe we should do everything we can to keep him. Upfront was interesting. Guly can do great things and then blaze a shot 40 yeards wide...Rickie looks fitter and more energetic but should he really be coming as wide as he is? If he's being told to stay in the areas where he was moving to to pick up the ball tonight, we don't have a predator around the 6 yard box as Guly isn't quick enough....it sounds daft after we've rolled a team over 6-0 away but the striking situation needs looking at...

The support tonight, for a Tuesday night away game at Oldham was fantastic.....NA made a point of directing the players over to the fans after the game...I hung around for a while afterwards and ended up talking to the Oldham groundsman, who said our fans were fantastic and that he hasn't seen a better team all season and if we don't win the league, something is seriously wrong....not bad to hear ...and Ferguson was there tonight but left after 70 minutes......right, more beer to drink, thanks for a great night....COYR!!!!!

The 500 mile, 7 hour round trip was worth every mile and minute. It was just fantastic. The BBC stat on possesion is badly wrong, I can't remember them touching the ball let alone making a pass.

I think, as someone on here commented earlier, their possession stats were badly affected by all the time they spent picking the ball out of their own net ;o)

Fantastic

I felt immensely proud when telling my students about this result at school today, and showing them a picture of Barnard celebrating. I am not sure they comprehend League 1 though. But, very interested in when we play Man U.

Keep the wheels on the bus rolling saints!

Star quality - it was as simple as that. One of the best away trips I have made in many years. Too busy celebrating into the night to remember to post on here sorry, but the whole team were magnificent with no weak links at all as has been said. Great support, great songs, hilarious Utd keeper playing in front of Fergie - does not get much better!

Just keep your poaching mits off Oxo. thank you

Fatastic result it has been on the cards that we would give someone a smashing could have scored 5 or 6 against Udders even more against Exeter and should have beaten Blackpool by 3 or 4 but for Saints to go to Oldham who have only lost once at home on a Tuesday in January & smash them 6 0 with 6 different scores well that is just immense.

What a time to hit form can't wait for Saturday it is a absolute pleasure to watch Saints at the moment I thought we played some lovely football against Blackpool well done to Nigel & the the lads with our form & lallana signing the future is bright in red & white

I thought we could get a scratchy 1-0 or 2-1 result but 6-0 was not on my radar. Brilliant stuff and a real pleasure to be a Saints fan at the moment.

The key for me was\is and will be Ricky Lambert. Keep him on form and we'll get top 2.

He may not be our best technical player (that's Lallana for me) but he is the most important. It's no coincidence that the goal tap has really opened since he's rediscovered his form. I really, really hope he gets the chance to play at a higher level (for us of course), he richly deserves it.

Also it's going to be really interesting to see how we cope after these results. We will now be seen as the ManU of this league and the opposition are going to park the bus infront of their goal, both home and away.

We are definitely good enough to break down even the most stubborn of defences but the other teams are going to make it much tougher to score from now on in.

Still, no-one ever said winning a league was easy and Huddersfield\Charlton\Sheff Wed will push us all the way (Brighton will fade to play offs IMO).

True, but can you imagine the opposition manager pre-match: "So mark Lambert, he's a real danger, we've got to double up on Lallana, Guly hass a great shot on him so don't give him space, Chaplow can also score, we;ve already talked about marking the kid, watch Barnard in the box, for corners watch the CBs...."

Schneiderlin will then go and score...

Wonderfull :) I can sorta picture to opppostion manager with a manic 'tic' going on during the team talk and the colour draining from the faces of his players! - am I alone in thinking it's about time Kelvin got himself on the score sheet ? He's in danger of missing the bus :)

This is not the time to get carried away and make extravagant claims for our team, we can do that after we win this league and the FA Cup in May

Wrong, seize the day. Make the most of it. Its a great time to be a saints fan. If you wait till may, you'll be saying wait till next season and see if we can compete in championship and so it goes on.

We're gonna win the cup and the league, bring it on!
