Big Bad Bob Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 2 snippets from the solent interview with atkins after the oldham game. asking about punch being ill atkins said that he didnt turn up for training sunday and they discussed his illness and called it then that he wouldnt be involved today. then solent's blackmore pushing further got the reaction to his question "do you think puncheon wants to play" atkins : "lets just put it this way, the wheels are in motion, the people that want to play are on the bus". then the interview ended. i dont want to over analyse but dont let the door hit your arse on the way out punch FFS it's Adkins, and do you know what a proper noun is??

For me, it suggests that his Blackpool performance was indeed shop-window stuff. When I read this thread last night, my impression was the same as Nick's. But being out of kilter with everyone else thought I must have had it wrong. Thinking about it further Adkins went out of his way to emphasise Puncheon was ill more than once, to then undo those statements with the final interpretation does not make a lot of sense to me. My initial impression was that Puncheon was onboard, but could be anything on that one, time will tell.
derry Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 What Adkins actually said was that he was ill, missed training then was examined by the doctor the next morning and sent home and is expected for training on Thursday. Sounds straightforward to me. If anything was being hidden the doctor's examination wouldn't have been mentioned.
Saint Charlie Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 I interpreted it as Adkins saying Puncheon wants to leave and isn't really committed to Saints, and that Adkins only wants players who want to be part of our (bus) journey - simple as that.
saints-cris Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 From what adkins said there.. seems to me that Pucnheon isn't fully committed and that he can go elsewhere. Just me though.

AK Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6658793,00.html Maybe he had a chat with Holloway after the game- that's enough to make anyone ill.
shurlock Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 Punch doesnt take buses - he rides solo in his showboat.
buctootim Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6658793,00.html. Seeing one of our players in the stripes kit looks really odd now, and dated. Ive really got used to slash and would like to keep it.

Viking Warrior Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 Its interesting to hear peoples views on what Nigel said or meant. he did say that puch would be at training on thursday and the dr had said he was not fit to travel with the squad one concerning thing for me was his no response to the question of signing Guly. apart from saying hes now doing what we want him to do Has he signed or not?
Bailey Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 Has he signed or not? No! Sky got it wrong with some dodgey journalism, that is all. When he's signed, it'll be confirmed on the OS. Until then, he remains a loan player.
Jimmy_D Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 Haha! Maybe Holloway shouldn't have had a cheap shot at us if he wanted to buy one of our players.
Danish Saint Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 Adkins: the lad puncheon is on his bike getting run over by the bus and the conductor is winding up for a windmill. Its as simple as that. Simples!
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 Punch doesnt take buses - he rides solo in his showboat. Well I heard he rides around on his on his high horse, apart from matchdays when he switches to his one trick pony.
Chez Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 I'm surprised that if he wasn't committed he didn't make that perfectly clear before the Blackpool game - then he would not be cup tied making it even easier to get his move. My take on this is that Adkins sometimes says things in interviews that are not 100% perfectly thought out and presented, possibly he gets overexcited or his mouth is quicker than his brain (no offence intended as mine is the same). He just answers the question and sometimes a less than perfectly worded answer comes out - like when he said Martin was making his full league debut for the club. It might therefore not be best to take everything he says, down to the very last word, as definitive. One thing I would say is that if Hammond is fit - replacing Gobern, then who would drop from the bench? Puncheon might not be selected on Saturday just because there was no slot!
Jones91 Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 Punch doesnt take buses - he rides solo in his showboat. I think he means like Jason Deruuulooo
CWD Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 I'm with Chez and NickG on this one, I listened to the interview and heard nothing to suggest he was leaving imminently. Add to that how I saw him in HMV purchasing series 1 of 'On the Buses', and it seems he is sure to stay
Gingeletiss Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 Well I heard he rides around on his on his high horse' date=' apart from matchdays when he switches to his one trick pony.[/quote'] He's back, so the abuse re-commences, gotta love our fans!
landford.saint Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6658793,00.html "Southampton are waiting for any club to meet their valuation of their winger" Now I heard (possibly on here) that we had valued Punch at roughly £1,000,000. If Blackpool have offered £200,000. Isn't that going to be an awfully long wait.
NickG Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 (edited) 1) Already did, more successfully than you, it seems.... 2) Irrelevant. I commented on what other people were saying on this thread, and their intepretation is totally out of kilter with yours. Those headphones or speakers of yours must have some pretty special filtering on them, thats all I can say. 3) Wow, a comment dealling with the football issues. Quelle Surprise... so you are now posting a criticism of a poster who commented on an interview they heard - saying they got it wrong - but you haven't heard the interview!!! lol - you couldn't make it up! Edited 12 January, 2011 by NickG
Viking Warrior Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 Who is this happie Chappie called Alpine. I do not get tosee his posts anymore TFFT

Cup tie wasn't an issue as Blackpool are now out of the Cup and he played against them to show his worth - obviously worked if they offered £200k!
Saint Charlie Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 Daily Echo saying Saints have rejected a bid from Blackpool.
buctootim Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 I think we paid £250k for him, and after his performances at Millwall hes got to be worth more - around £400K imo .
CWD Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 why would he go to Blackpool? The reason he left Plymouth was because it was too far from his London home!
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 He's back, so the abuse re-commences, gotta love our fans! Lol it's a joke mate. Besides doesn't 'I heard' suggest I was repeating the opinions of others rather than my own?
Chez Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 why would he go to Blackpool? The reason he left Plymouth was because it was too far from his London home! he left because he had a mare in the first 6 or 7 games, was dropped and had no prospect of playing for them. When we came here after his loan spell at MK Dons, it was a no brainer decision based on getting games and the same sort if wage.
Dalek2003 Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 If Puncheon could get his attititude right he would be just the ticket.
CWD Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 he left because he had a mare in the first 6 or 7 games, was dropped and had no prospect of playing for them. When we came here after his loan spell at MK Dons, it was a no brainer decision based on getting games and the same sort if wage. OK but my point still stands. From the horse's mouth we were told he couldn't settle in the area and wanted a move closer to London
Bristol_Benji Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 Holloway stated in his sky interview after the Liverpool game that he'd been quoted 2.5m for 'a 19 year old' earlier in the week. Could this be punch?
Bristol_Benji Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 I'll answer my own question - no. Can't believe puncheon is 24!
buctootim Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 Holloway stated in his sky interview after the Liverpool game that he'd been quoted 2.5m for 'a 19 year old' earlier in the week. Could this be punch? Just a hunch, but as he's 24, no.
Chez Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 OK but my point still stands. From the horse's mouth we were told he couldn't settle in the area and wanted a move closer to London no offence, but he's not going to say "I went there and played utter **** so they dropped me and the manager then said he was going to play me again because I was so poor" is he? Anyway I agree your point still stands and he probably wants to stick around the london area. The Millwall move is the only move then. The only way that is going to work is lots of staged payments. I'm not sure that is a good deal for us.
Horley CTFC Saint Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6658793,00.html I think thats a bit disrespectful of Blackpool - going after our players like that
SuperSAINT Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 Blackpool have bid accepted for Hammill.... http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_6660611,00.html Wonder if they'll come back for Punch?

Paul75 Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 According to Twitter he is back training today
Saint_Ash Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11719_6661140,00.html Excellent, show's we're not a selling club. If anyone wants our players they have to pay decent prices for them!
Rory Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/blackpool/9355579.stm A bit hypocritical if he's only bid £200k for a player we value at £1million.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 That's right Holloway, now we're laughing because you're a Premier league team and you can't afford to sign a league one player.
Thedelldays Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 That's right Holloway' date=' now we're laughing because you're a Premier league team and you can't afford to sign a league one player.[/quote'] whist sat 9th in the prem.....have to say, he has done a fantastic job
corsacar saint Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 Hollaway has done a magnificent job at Blackpool, and football as a whole certainly needs characters like him.
hypochondriac Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 whist sat 9th in the prem.....have to say, he has done a fantastic job Thought he was an awful manager?
Thedelldays Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 Thought he was an awful manager? eeer...no I was liking the idea he would be our manager when pards came in
Greenridge Posted 13 January, 2011 Posted 13 January, 2011 If Puncheon could get his attititude right he would be just the ticket. And if so he'd be...

Add to that how I saw him in HMV purchasing series 1 of 'On the Buses', and it seems he is sure to stay don't think we should get too carried away with the detail of anything Adkins says - I don't think he does! It could be read he was out of here, but equally could have been saying how well things are going and players will want to be part of it. (or you could not listen and guess!)
Saint_Jimbo83 Posted 15 January, 2011 Posted 15 January, 2011 According to Wikipedia he is having a medical at Palace. Could be complete rubbish of course. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Puncheon
