2 snippets from the solent interview with atkins after the oldham game.

asking about punch being ill atkins said that he didnt turn up for training sunday and they discussed his illness and called it then that he wouldnt be involved today.

then solent's blackmore pushing further got the reaction to his question "do you think puncheon wants to play"

atkins : "lets just put it this way, the wheels are in motion, the people that want to play are on the bus".

then the interview ended.

i dont want to over analyse but dont let the door hit your arse on the way out punch :(

FFS it's Adkins, and do you know what a proper noun is??

Man, you really see what you want to, dont you ?

Everyone else who heard the interview has interpreted this as Puncheon is not really up for the fight, is not really committed to the club.

For me, it suggests that his Blackpool performance was indeed shop-window stuff.

When I read this thread last night, my impression was the same as Nick's. But being out of kilter with everyone else thought I must have had it wrong. Thinking about it further Adkins went out of his way to emphasise Puncheon was ill more than once, to then undo those statements with the final interpretation does not make a lot of sense to me. My initial impression was that Puncheon was onboard, but could be anything on that one, time will tell.

What Adkins actually said was that he was ill, missed training then was examined by the doctor the next morning and sent home and is expected for training on Thursday. Sounds straightforward to me. If anything was being hidden the doctor's examination wouldn't have been mentioned.

Its interesting to hear peoples views on what Nigel said or meant.

he did say that puch would be at training on thursday and the dr had said he was not fit to travel with the squad

one concerning thing for me was his no response to the question of signing Guly. apart from saying hes now doing what we want him to do

Has he signed or not?

I'm surprised that if he wasn't committed he didn't make that perfectly clear before the Blackpool game - then he would not be cup tied making it even easier to get his move.

My take on this is that Adkins sometimes says things in interviews that are not 100% perfectly thought out and presented, possibly he gets overexcited or his mouth is quicker than his brain (no offence intended as mine is the same). He just answers the question and sometimes a less than perfectly worded answer comes out - like when he said Martin was making his full league debut for the club. It might therefore not be best to take everything he says, down to the very last word, as definitive.

One thing I would say is that if Hammond is fit - replacing Gobern, then who would drop from the bench? Puncheon might not be selected on Saturday just because there was no slot!

I'm with Chez and NickG on this one, I listened to the interview and heard nothing to suggest he was leaving imminently.

Add to that how I saw him in HMV purchasing series 1 of 'On the Buses', and it seems he is sure to stay

1) Already did, more successfully than you, it seems....

2) Irrelevant. I commented on what other people were saying on this thread, and their intepretation is totally out of kilter with yours. Those headphones or speakers of yours must have some pretty special filtering on them, thats all I can say.

3) Wow, a comment dealling with the football issues. Quelle Surprise...

so you are now posting a criticism of a poster who commented on an interview they heard - saying they got it wrong - but you haven't heard the interview!!!

lol - you couldn't make it up!

Cup tie wasn't an issue as Blackpool are now out of the Cup and he played against them to show his worth - obviously worked if they offered £200k!

why would he go to Blackpool? The reason he left Plymouth was because it was too far from his London home!

he left because he had a mare in the first 6 or 7 games, was dropped and had no prospect of playing for them. When we came here after his loan spell at MK Dons, it was a no brainer decision based on getting games and the same sort if wage.

OK but my point still stands. From the horse's mouth we were told he couldn't settle in the area and wanted a move closer to London

no offence, but he's not going to say "I went there and played utter **** so they dropped me and the manager then said he was going to play me again because I was so poor" is he?

Anyway I agree your point still stands and he probably wants to stick around the london area. The Millwall move is the only move then. The only way that is going to work is lots of staged payments. I'm not sure that is a good deal for us.

Haha no probably not.

I think he's staying. We'll know for sure if he plays/is in the squad on saturday imo

don't think we should get too carried away with the detail of anything Adkins says - I don't think he does!

It could be read he was out of here, but equally could have been saying how well things are going and players will want to be part of it.

(or you could not listen and guess!)
