Goalie66 Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Given the absence from the squad let alone starting XI are we to assume that he is on his way PDQ ?
Big_Bald_Si Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Seems a bit of a coincidence - he was cracking on Saturday
SuperSAINT Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 He's ill. (And apparently, Millwall's opening offer for Punch was 150k) Really.
CWD Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Adam Blackmore on Solent said 'it's no secret, we believe he is genuinely ill'. Don't read to much into it
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Adam Blackmore on Solent said 'it's no secret, we believe he is genuinely ill'. Don't read to much into it Don`t go letting a sensible post get in the way of a good bit of conspiracy theorying...
alpine_saint Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 He's ill. (And apparently, Millwall's opening offer for Punch was 150k) Really. That's hillarious.
Roger Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 That's hillarious. He si definately ill trust me. Alpine I used to really respect youre opinions around lowes last days, but do me a favour mate. What is youre problem, so negative when the club is defo moving forward.
Millbrook Saint Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 to be fair to Alpine wasn't he on about Millwall's offer for Puncheon
Smirking_Saint Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Well, we are in a position to laugh at Millwall and say 'seriously, wheres the rest ??'
saintscottofthenortham Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 He's ill. (And apparently, Millwall's opening offer for Punch was 150k) Really.:lol:
alpine_saint Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 to be fair to Alpine wasn't he on about Millwall's offer for Puncheon Indeed I was. But my reputation preceeds me, apparently.
Bartosz Bialkowski Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 He si definately ill trust me. Alpine I used to really respect youre opinions around lowes last days, but do me a favour mate. What is youre problem, so negative when the club is defo moving forward. I would suspect he found the derisory 150k hillarious.... not the illness.... but dont let that stop you
CanadaSaint Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Why would we needlessly cup-tie a player (there were other options) if we were planning on selling him right away?
saintscottofthenortham Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Indeed I was. But my reputation preceeds me, apparently. For obvious reasons.
trousers Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Adkins just quizzed about Puncheon in Solent post match interview - confirmed he was too ill to travel but Nigel sounded a little unconvincing - said he would be back in training on Thursday and, perhaps tellingly, said "those that wanted to be on the bus to Oldham were on the bus - simple as that"....or words to that effect....reading between the line I don't think Puncheon was up for it....
ribbo Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 2 snippets from the solent interview with atkins after the oldham game. asking about punch being ill atkins said that he didnt turn up for training sunday and they discussed his illness and called it then that he wouldnt be involved today. then solent's blackmore pushing further got the reaction to his question "do you think puncheon wants to play" atkins : "lets just put it this way, the wheels are in motion, the people that want to play are on the bus". then the interview ended. i dont want to over analyse but dont let the door hit your arse on the way out punch

The 'bus' he was referring to was a metaphor for saints' promotion push. When asked about Puncheon, he said (and I believe this is a first) "it's as simple as this" before spouting the aforementioned nonsense. It was hilarious to listen to, and a very entertaining way of not answering the question. NA is awesome. It's as simple as that
SuperSAINT Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 ribbo & trousers - I agree with both of you. Didn't sound too good to me from my interpretation of it either. Shame, because I thought we may've over-come the problems. But if he wants out, then he can go to the highest bidder.

That was the message from Cortese at the fans dinner too.

niceandfriendly Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Definitely sounded like he was off. He definitely said (after being asked "Does Puncheon want to play?") "Those who want to play were on the bus". He was using the bus analogy earlier about a different subject. Big shame if he goes.
Graffito Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Adkins has made it clear to the Puncheon. It's not enough to be in the house. He also has to be on the bus. If he's not on the bus, he can get on his bike. It's as simple as that.
Saint dyer Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 If he's not on the bus, will he still be in the building?
VectisSaint Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 But if he gets on his bike will he be in the building when he gets on it or does he have to catch a bus and do you need a ticket if you take your bike on a bus like you do on a train?

NickG Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 sounded like Adkins was saying nothing apart from 1) confirming Dr stated he was ill 2) the club is going places and if players want to be part of that they should
CanadaSaint Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 sounded like Adkins was saying nothing apart from 1) confirming Dr stated he was ill 2) the club is going places and if players want to be part of that they should It sounded rather more pointed to me, Nick. Every so often a player is deemed expendable in order to make the point that the team and the club are always bigger. If that's what's happening here, so be it. I don't want to see anything damage the developing chemistry.
niceandfriendly Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 If he's not on the bus, will he still be in the building? I f**king love Adkins' nonsense Love 'im!
NickG Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 maybe, and seemed to be encouraging to be part of it but if not its his choice. Maybe over analysing as he does avoid answering!
niceandfriendly Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 £200k... not sure Blackpool can afford him. Yeah, they won't get him for that. Unless Puncheon really kicks up a fuss then we might lower out asking price to avoid friction in the changing room. Giggedy.
S-Clarke Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 The last thing we need is a player hanging around the place that doesn't want to play for us. So if that's the case get rid of him, on loan or whatever. Although I honestly don't think he'll find a better club than us to go to. He's destined to be a lower league journey man.

alpine_saint Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 sounded like Adkins was saying nothing apart from 1) confirming Dr stated he was ill 2) the club is going places and if players want to be part of that they should Man, you really see what you want to, dont you ? Everyone else who heard the interview has interpreted this as Puncheon is not really up for the fight, is not really committed to the club. For me, it suggests that his Blackpool performance was indeed shop-window stuff.
alpine_saint Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 It sounded rather more pointed to me, Nick. I don't want to see anything damage the developing chemistry. Totally, totally agree. If his committment is still suspect and the air has not been cleared, he need to be shipped out PDQ before his attitude infects the team. The amount we get for him becomes somewhat secondary in this case.
NickG Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 Man, you really see what you want to, dont you ? Everyone else who heard the interview has interpreted this as Puncheon is not really up for the fight, is not really committed to the club. SaintBobby Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 A pity if he is moving on. But maybe an unavoidable one. If he does go, I think we do need to sign another winner. One thing that annoys me - although I don't know how Saints can easily stop this - is that players who want to go not only leave, but also tend to lower the asking price. If I throw a strop at my place of work, it makes my life more difficult - it doesn't make it easier for me to get what I want. I wonder if the solution for football is similar to that in other high-level, personnel-dependent industries - namely, that gardening leave becomes a standard element of contracts. If there was a gardening leave clause for three months (or six months in the off-season), this would make it much harder for whingeing players to get their way. All that said, if he goes, good luck to him I guess. He hasn't been as bad at Saints as some seem to think, but he has been frustrating and has never really settled.
Danish Saint Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 But if he gets on his bike will he be in the building when he gets on it or does he have to catch a bus and do you need a ticket if you take your bike on a bus like you do on a train? Doesn't someone have to open the door for him, if he gets on his bike to leave the building? And I do believe you need a ticket to get your bike on the bus, even though the bike gets thrown in the boot of the bus, unlike they do on a train, as it has no boot. So the question is: Who opens the door for him and who does he buy a ticket from?

So the question is: Who opens the door for him and who does he buy a ticket from? Hang on, I thought you could take your bike on a train, but not on a bus? Is the reason for all this our pre-season when the players had to get on their bikes to the training ground? Did we take a bus yesterday? I thought we used FlyBE for away games? I'm confused
alpine_saint Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 1) Read the thread 2) Did you hear the interview or are you commenting on it without hearing it? 3) Does anyone still say "man"? lol 1) Already did, more successfully than you, it seems.... 2) Irrelevant. I commented on what other people were saying on this thread, and their intepretation is totally out of kilter with yours. Those headphones or speakers of yours must have some pretty special filtering on them, thats all I can say. 3) Wow, a comment dealling with the football issues. Quelle Surprise...
Danish Saint Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 Hang on, I thought you could take your bike on a train, but not on a bus? Is the reason for all this our pre-season when the players had to get on their bikes to the training ground? Did we take a bus yesterday? I thought we used FlyBE for away games? I'm confused You can take your bike on the train, but your ticket will be a wee bit more expensive than a regular ticket. You can also take your bike with you on the bus, but only for long-distance trips, but it'll have to ride in the boot, I'm afraid. The bikes in pre-season seemed a bit expensive, as they were part of the set-up that got Pardew sacked, so the question remains: Why do you even want to get on a bike? I also believe they had to get on a bus sometime yesterday, as there are no airports within walking distance from Boundary Park. So even though they may have taken a plane, they still had to get on a bus. Unless of course they biked from the airport to the ground. Now I'm also confused. Cortese, we want answers!!
Ken Tone Posted 12 January, 2011 Posted 12 January, 2011 But if he gets on his bike will he be in the building when he gets on it or does he have to catch a bus and do you need a ticket if you take your bike on a bus like you do on a train? Lol. I think it depends on whether season ticket holders can buy their own seat on the bus first .. and on parking obviously.
