buctootim Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 No-one's on the bus? The wheels aren't in motion (and may have come off)?
latter day saint Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 glad to see it a Wilts & Dorset bus and not Adkins Super Saints Bus !
St Marco Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 I trust Cortese far more than Howe and Mitchell - we've been through all this before anyway. Totally agree. I just don't like the guy. I respect what he has done. It has been a pretty amazing feat if you think about it considering the resources he had. But for a guy to talk about loyalty and how "i have a project to finish here, i couldn't leave it half finished" only a few days ago to what we have seen today has he really been loyal? If we take his words he spoke to 5 supposed clubs. It is rumoured that he was very close to joining either Palace or Charlton. He even said at one point he expected to go. By talking to so many clubs in my view gives the impression you want to leave. There is nothing wrong with that. Everyone wants to go up their professions career ladder. Especially if your nearer the bottom. That is totally normal. But it seems with every rumour he comes out talking in code. Look at the difference between how he talks about it and how others do. When Adkins was in talks he confirmed it. He said we were going through the right channels. He didn't feel the need to talk in riddles, he just answered the questions. With Howe it just never seems clear cut. It would not surprise me one bit to find out those other clubs chose someone else ahead of him. Like the Saints job. I think we can all agree he at least applied for it. But Cortese says he was never offered it, only one person was and that was Adkins. Howe is a good manager. I just don't think he is as honest as people try and make out.
SFC Forever Posted 15 January, 2011 Posted 15 January, 2011 story says he didn't join Palace because compensation couldn't be agreed.
LGTL Posted 15 January, 2011 Posted 15 January, 2011 I was just browsing the Bournemouth forum and came across this..Quite an interesting read except the predictable "scum" bit. To be fair, he stuck around and chatted even though we told him some home truths. We told him he had let us down in the way he acted and he looked close to tears. He admitted he had probably done things wrong in saying he was staying but "couldn't say nothing to the media". He told us that he was a Bournemouth fan and "hecking loves the club - I've been here half my life" so he wouldn't do anything to deliberately harm it. We told him he should have stayed till the end of the season and he had unfinished business. But he said he had already turned down four clubs and was in risk of looking like "a bottler with no ambition." "Look at Steve Tilson at Southend - he got them to the Championship and was sacked two years later. Now he's nowhere. I couldn't risk that." He said it wasn't about the money - as if it was he would have taken up a testimonial he had been owed for four years but didn't want to take money from the club. He did admit that he had fallings out with EM - "it's obvious" - but that wasn't the reason for leaving. He also said he had a baby on the way so has to think about his family. He also said he previously turned down Scum despite them offering six times his salary. We departed by giving him a hug and telling him we wanted him to be the best manager in the country - but he had let the fans down. I'd love to know the real truth about what happened between him and Saints.
SFC Forever Posted 15 January, 2011 Posted 15 January, 2011 I don't give a damn because we have landed on our feet and have a manager that seems more than capable of extracting the best out of the players.
sir woody Posted 15 January, 2011 Posted 15 January, 2011 Who cares, bournemouth will disappear without trace now he's gone. They dont like us, we don't care, end of.
hamster Posted 15 January, 2011 Posted 15 January, 2011 I wish him luck if I'm honest and am disappointed that they probably won't now be joining the Campionship South Coast mini-league with us. agree with the poster who said that it makes our charge a little more difficulat as they would ahve taken points from the chasing pack albeit not every week but enough to widen the gap in our favour. And, good luck Bournemouth, I prefer you to Pompey....just.
Dr Who? Posted 15 January, 2011 Posted 15 January, 2011 Isn't that the case with most referees? I am glad you put most in there!!
Gingeletiss Posted 15 January, 2011 Posted 15 January, 2011 He also said he previously turned down Scum despite them offering six times his salary. Yeh right, like anyone in their right mind would turn down a sixfold increase in salary!
scotty Posted 15 January, 2011 Posted 15 January, 2011 Who cares, bournemouth will disappear without trace now he's gone. They dont like us, we don't care, end of. this.
david in sweden Posted 15 January, 2011 Posted 15 January, 2011 Who cares, bournemouth will disappear without trace now he's gone. They dont like us, we don't care, end of. You need luck to win Leagues but I can't believe that we've had the good fortune of the last few weeks. Obviously, Howe is a fool if he doesn't leave B'mouth, and owes it to himself to try it out at a higher level. Charlton are fools for sacking Parkinson. A very good manager (another former Saints junior who didn't make the grade in our Div.1 days) because he had a bad run and a few poor results... Two pieces of luck no-one could have predicted. Now both clubs have to "break in " new managers, who will want to bring in new players on a limited budget, and get caught up in the same player-race as everyone else.
FarehamRed Posted 15 January, 2011 Posted 15 January, 2011 Who cares, bournemouth will disappear without trace now he's gone. They dont like us, we don't care, end of. I don't know - they probably stand as good a chance as any in the play-offs.

It probably means their challenge will tail off as the season goes on but its not like they wont pick up another win !
dubai_phil Posted 15 January, 2011 Posted 15 January, 2011 Hmm Great opportunity for Nick Holmes then. Lives pretty local and would not cost Mad Ed a fortune
Window Cleaner Posted 15 January, 2011 Posted 15 January, 2011 I don't know - they probably stand as good a chance as any in the play-offs. They might even be out of the play-off places when all the back fixtures even out.
Legod Third Coming Posted 15 January, 2011 Posted 15 January, 2011 "It was not something I seeked..." Thank God he didn't come here. Christ alive. I thought grammar was bad among most football managers but that takes the biscuit.

Cotterill makes him look like an Oxford don though.Football must be about the only sector where complete imbeciles get to manage (legal) multi-million pound concerns.

Worryingly, I recently employed a graduate in Business Studies (2:1) who then asked me whether I could help him with some conventions in English as 'no one had ever taught him how to write properly'... Thank you Tony. Education, Education, Education my arse. Still, minted innit l8ers like c ya .... God help us all...

A 2:1 in Business Studies nowadays is probably worth about the same as a Latin O Level from the early 70s,ie very little. My lad did 6 months of his 5 year Engineering diploma at Brizzle Uni, his English was among the best of the bunch and he's not that great at it believe me.Most of it comes from SciFi films, the Simpsons and Friends.
