its on the sky sports twitter "Manager Eddie Howe staying at Bournemouth despite interest from Charlton"

So he's bottled a move, and taken three days to make a decision. His desirability to other clubs in the future will take a hit from that.

Posted

Well I suppose a choice between another L1 side or an NPC relegation side, or maybe moving to Burnley, isn't too exciting , but I'm surprised he can face having his best players sold around him ...which will continue to be his future at Bournemouth.

Will Mitchell now sell Pugh to pay for Howe's increased wages?

What an attention seeking ballbag. He was never going to go and just wanted his 5 mins in the limelight. He couldnt handle the pressure. Doesnt know career progression when he sees it.

Cheers.

All a bit strange....a man who seems happy to to be linked with various jobs but never takes one up (or indeed never gets formally offered one...?)

Possible that he could be the rarest of things, a loyal manager? I actually respect him a lot for resisting the move.

I dont know why they are celebrating so much. I wouldnt have faith in a manager whos constantly looking to get away but hasnt got the balls to do it.... Bit like knowing your girlfriend is weighing up her options with other men but because she hasnt actually made the move your happy to stay with her.... if theyre not 100% commited get rid.

Unless the whole episode was dreamt up by Howe and the Bournemouth board to galvanise the players and supporters ahead of a promotion push? Nobody forced Howe to talk to other clubs.

What better way to inject some fresh imputus and feel-good-factor into a club: Manager talks to other 'bigger' clubs....manager declines offer(s) and is hailed a loyal hero by club's supporters....club rides on the crest of a wave of enthusiasm to sneak automatic promotion ahead of rival 'local' club...

Nah....that's much too far fetched Trousers.....

he has burnt his boats, i doubt many other clubs will risk him snubbing them.

Why? If a decent job comes up he'll take it. And if he does gain back to back promotions a decent job will come along. Don't blame him at all. He'd be on a hiding to nothing at both those clubs.

I suspect that neither Palace nor Charlton have anything much to spend. So a jump from Bournemouth who have nothing much to spend either is hardly worth it. Personally, I think he'd have taken our job had he not been second choice and been used as a negotiating tool when Scunny wanted too much compensation.

If the right club comes in for him in the summer he'll be gone.

Even Matt Le Tiss agreed terms with Spurs....

Bournemouth have confirmed that manager Eddie Howe will stay at Dean Court.

Howe, 33, who has been in the role since 31 December 2008, had been linked with vacancies at Crystal Palace, Burnley and Charlton Athletic.

Posted

I applaud his loyalty but he has got to be crazy to stay with Mad Eddie - wait for a few more player sales. I also think he can afford to wait for better options than Charlton, Palace and Burnley

Posted

I can understand his decision. There is a good chance of Bournemouth getting promotion this season and if that happens, his CV is enhanced big time !

Nobody can accuse him of being disloyal or greedy so he stands out from the normal money grabbing mob of usual suspects whenever a vacancy occurs (which is just about every other week !).

He is young and still has a lot to learn so why not do this in a place where expectations are low and you are already popular ?

He will get a bigger job somewhere, sometime soon and personally I think that he is going the right way about it !

The only thing that worries me is that this decision will further galvanise BFC and make the competition even more intense for us !

I was getting really ****ed off about how much time they were spending on it on Solent on Saturday and its all come to a great big nothing.

Might be a good time to buy Mark Pugh then ...

Exactly.

He was never going to leave (at this point in time), just like he was never going to come to St. Mary's (even though he wasn't offered a job here in the first place).

Just him and his Club using the media to increase his reputation at the Club even further, enhance their already strong siege mentality, and galvanise his playing staff and supporters in testing times, where they hope for promotion against the odds.

Create scare scaremongering story of potential doom where none existed, give emotional radio interview, leave supporters to stew over the weekend - then commit future to Club and come out looking like the Loyal Hero.

Quite clever really, but he's played this card twice now, and I expect any further attempts will be seen for the transparent gestures that they really are.

Howe has now snubbed quite publicly Saints (apparently) Charlton and palace. If you were the chairman of any other club would you give him the opportunity to do so to your club. He has made Palace and Charlton look numpties and has strung them along a few days. Choosing Bournemouth to Charlton Palace and allegedly Saints, im sure their fans feel great about it.

I still feel he has burnt his boats unless he has another job lined up

Sorry Nick but I totally disagree. He has exercised his right to look at the postitions vacant column. If reports are to be believed he has passed the interview process and been selected for at least one position. It is his right, having been offered the postition to decline if he so wishes. I'm sure that he would have told all parties that he required some 'decission time' - and honoured that part of the deal. I really do not think he has made anybody look like a numpty at all, nor is it a snub in my eyes. He probably thinks that the Bournemouth job is only half done and believes that he can get them up.

Let's face it, if he does get them promoted, or indeed even near, he will be 'managerial hot property' next season as well. Time is on his side and he will still get lots of offers.

That's not to say that he will be successful once he does leave though, different jobs bring different aspirations and different problems - he could quite easily crash and burn at a new job. That said, right now, he is in demand and turning a few jobs down is not going to change that in my eyes.

He is at the peak of his powers at Bournemouth at this moment. Unless they get some players in, can they sustain their challenge?? I wanted Howe here and so am a fan of his achievements but I believe he has lost his nerve when a better opportunity comes along. I can't see that the Charlton or Palace job is not a massive job in comparison.

He will only get offers if he carries on the exceptional work he has done so far, if they fade????

If i were a football chairman and i had the choice of speaking to a good young manager or the same old bunch of turd on the manager merry go round (Peter Reid anyone?) i'd take the chance that i could persuade him to join my club at the risk of looking like a numpty. Which by the way i don't really think he has made them look like numpties at all. Mitchell obviously is a fool who is encouraging the only decent thing to happen to Bournemouth in the last ten years to speak to other clubs. Howe however is obviously not a fool. He knows he can play the waiting game...hopefully secure a second promotion and then really have some bargaining power when it comes to his next move. So he's had an interview...and then rejected the offer after some thought. It's hardly the ultimate disrespect.

well i havent had the call after my magnificent managerial performance in the Forum match. ......oh you said young manager

Young manager, 'legend' as player at a club he then, as manger, saves from demotion from the football league despite a 17 point deduction and with a squad of only about 15 (including schoolboys). He then takes basically the same squad to promotion and despite loss of top scorer then takes it to second place in the higher league. Offered a job at a bigger club he decides to stay loyal and try and finish the job by getting a second successive promotion.

"a great big nothing"? You tosser!

Luck will only take you so far Nick!

Oh and in fairness to Howe he seems like quite a dignified, quiet chap. I'm sure he's done everything the right way.

Mitchell on the other hand...well you can't buy class...

your reply could have been worse , you could have put me in your original 'normal turd' bracket lol

I think that you have missed my point. I was not commenting on his record -which is outstanding in anyone's terms - but more the public anguish. He should have kept things to himself until he had made his decision.

And on this part of the equation I agree with most of what you say Nick. He is obviously more than comfortable at Bournemouth, expectations will not be high - he has probably already exceeded what was expected. Therefore life is cushy to a certain extent, and he has proved himself to be a more than competent manager.

The fear for him will always be what happens when he does eventually move - will he be able to replicate his current success rate at a bigger team. To be fair to him, Palace and Charlton are not actually currently giant leaps forward from where he currently is - and I'm not sure that either club has much of a 'warchest' to throw at him either.

It's difficult to see how it will pan out for him now - but if he keeps Bournemouth in and around the promotion places, or achieves it - offers will follow next year for sure - and probably more attractive propositions than what Charlton and Palace currently are.

Indeed. That's the rashness of youth.

There are really strong rumours that Mitchell is in trouble again.I'd be surprised if Howe is not aware of these rumours as they're pretty widespread in and around Poole/Bournemouth. Therefore, it surprises me that he wants to stay as his stock may never be higher.Perhaps he feels a bigger job will come along later, but I think he has come across as weak and unable to make a big decision. Personally I reckon his fannying around will put other clubs off. Adkins had as much sucsess and respect at Scunny, and the decision would have been just as tough for him, but he made it and there was none of the agonising that we've had from Howe.

Posted

Fair play to Howe. There isn't enough loyalty about these days, and he seemed genuinely torn during the interview he gave to Solent on Saturday. Hoping that both we and Bournemouth go up this year.

Posted

He's done well. He will have negotiated a wage rise and may well now achieve promotion with Bournemouth (in the play-offs I hope). And Bournemouth's finances will creak even more which is to our advantage.

So what's the problem? WE are no worse off. We know we can beat Bournemouth. And Charlton are still without the manager who would certainly have turned them into a bigger threat to us. That would have concerned me.

Howe's decision won't effect our prospects.

Posted

It's good to see someone with loyalty in today's game. I don't blame him for turning down Palace and Charlton, neither are in good shame finance wise, Charlton inparticular is a poinsoned chalice.

As long as they don't get in the way of us I hope Bournemouth do well.

Radio Solent reporting that Burnley hope to unveil Howe by Saturday!!!!!

The Bournemouth fans gushing over his loyalty are going to look pretty silly if this happens.
