trousers Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3339263/Crawley-star-Matt-Tubbs-will-ask-to-quit-if-a-big-club-comes-calling.html Published: Today MATT TUBBS will plead with FA Cup giant-killers Crawley to 'Let me go' if a big club comes calling. The 21-goal Blue Square Premier hitman has been linked with Leeds, Peterborough and Southampton. And the 26-year-old is determined to prove his worth against Championship club Derby tonight. Big-spenders Crawley have already said they will match any offer that comes in for their star. Tubbs insisted: "If a big club came in I'd like to think Crawley wouldn't stand in my way because it's my career. All I want to do is play at a higher level." I'm guessing we would count as a "big club" from his point of view....?
alpine_saint Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Is there another decent player with the surname Crockett out there we can buy too ?

Torrent Of Abuse Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Is there another decent player with the surname Crockett out there we can buy too ? What about David (Crocked) Connelly?
georgeweahscousin Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 I will be stunned if we sign him. Saw him play for both Salisbury and Bournemouth. He is not good enough for us.
Windmill Arm 2 Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Tubbs plays in the Blue Square Prem, there is a very good reason for this.
farawaysaint Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 He has a fantastic goal-game record... In the blue square prem but someone surely has to at least give him a trial soon? Nothing says we have to buy him.
Cabrone Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Tubbs plays in the Blue Square Prem, there is a very good reason for this. I wouldn't hold that against him, Austin played in the lower level Wessex league and look at him now. If NA thinks he's worth a shot then I trust his judgement.
Pancake Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Tubbs plays in the Blue Square Prem, there is a very good reason for this. Where was Seaborne a few seasons ago
Nexstar Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Where was Seaborne a few seasons ago He last played there aged 20, similar to Charlie Austin. Tubbs is 26 and if good enough, would have made it by now.
CWD Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 (edited) I wouldn't hold that against him, Austin played in the lower level Wessex league and look at him now. If NA thinks he's worth a shot then I trust his judgement. Yeah but Charlie Austin is a lot younger. At 26, Tubbs is a little too old imo. If he hasn't made it by now then he propably won't. Still, in NA we trust Edited 10 January, 2011 by CWD
ZebadeeRust Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 I'm going to the Crawley vs Derby game tonight so it'll be interesting to see how he fairs against championship opposition. Matt has been knocking them in for fun this season but Crawley is not a one man team. Given the investment put into the whole team, it's not surprising that he's scored a lot of goals. He's got a lot of good quality ( for the blue square) around him to help.
saintbletch Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 surely a local player for local team? Very good!
Secret Site Agent Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Hate to say it, but look at Vinnie Jones. He was just a brickie and playing semi-pro until he was picked up by Wimbledon. Mind you he was in his early twenties I think, so just a little bit younger.
SNSUN Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 We're building for the Championship and beyond. Not League One. Taking a chance on an ageing non-League star is nonsensical to me.
Graffito Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Stuart Pearce was playing non league for Wealdstone into his twenties before he got a move to a FL club.
buctootim Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 DJ Campbell was at non league Yeading until he was 24.
lambertsrightleg Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 QPR enquired about him last month and were quoted £750k, fact
bridge too far Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 DJ Campbell was at non league Yeading until he was 24. That's the one I've just spent 5 minutes struggling to remember as an example! Thanks, mate
lambertsrightleg Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 It's not that Tubbsy couldn't have moved he just wanted to get to the FL with Salisbury. Obviously he doesn't have the same affinity to Crawley so is touting himself about.
trousers Posted 10 January, 2011 Author Posted 10 January, 2011 QPR enquired about him last month and were quoted £750k, fact A mate's girlfriend per chance....? ;-)
Colinjb Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 When he was on fire with Salisbury he had an 8 game spell with the Cherries. He found the net once but they decided against keeping him. His best chance to play in the league is for Crawley to come up.

He was rubbish.
Colinjb Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 I witnessed that goal against Luton. It was all he did in the game. He was rubbish. Sounds like Danny Hockton for me. The season he had for Margate back in 06/07 was unbelievable. But all he could do was finish. At a higher level (the mighty Bromley) he was found out.
saint lard Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 He scored for Crawley tonight against Derby.
Colinjb Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 He scored for Crawley tonight against Derby. 2-1?
trousers Posted 10 January, 2011 Author Posted 10 January, 2011 He scored for Crawley tonight against Derby. Not unless he's changed his name to McAllister he hasn't...
saint lard Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Not unless he's changed his name to McAllister he hasn't... Commentator on Talksport claimed it was Tubbs...yeah i know its Talksport.
sammysaint Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Well no way would he get above RL or LB Guly and when fit DC IMO we need a striker whos 21/22 and played in the championship
trousers Posted 10 January, 2011 Author Posted 10 January, 2011 Ha! Crawley score in injury time! 2-1 Torres...sign him up :-)
saint lard Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Ha! Crawley score in injury time! 2-1 I will now leave some comments on Robbie Savages' twitter.
oxfordshire_saint Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Didn't score but at least he likes a tackle......
angelman Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Agree that he is a bit old. Ian Wright is the classic example of being plucked from obscurity. He was playing for Dulwich Hamlet before he signed for Palace. But then he was just under 22.
Horley CTFC Saint Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Ha! Crawley score in injury time! 2-1 Torres...sign him up :-) He's better than Tubbs - although not necessarily in last nights conditions!
Mowgli Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Didn't score but at least he likes a tackle....... Yeah, and he was lucky to still be on the pitch. Thought he was quite poor to be honest. Poor ball control. Bit of a hot head. Not as good as he thinks he is. And at 26, you have to wonder whether there is a nything there to develop. He should be at his prime now. I take the point about Vinnie Jones but that is the exception rather than the rule.
marc_saint Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 I was listening to 5live before the game last night whilst driving home and they were interviewing the Crawley manager. Apparently they have already turned down bids in this transfer window from Peterborough and Notts County for Tubbs.
Stu Man Do Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Ha! Crawley score in injury time! 2-1 Torres...sign him up :-) Don't you know Torres would be crap in league 1!? ;-) Also didnt Tubbs have a trial here at some point already and was deemed not good enough. I'm sure this was within the last two years, think he may have come across at the same time Martin was on trial from Eastleigh.
itchen_dan Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 26 = "ageing"? Really? Yeah but think about it. If he was any good he would've been snapped up by now. As he is now 26 and still at Crawley kind of tells me that he's still there for a reason.
