The Cup-tie v Man Utd will fill the executive boxes for the first time since his arrival, the stadium and the press box. It will bring in club record ticket sales and spin offs not to mention tv rights. This club will be the focus of the footballing world from Bangkok to Boston. A far cry from what he has so far experienced ie away to the Daggers etc. This will give him a real taste of what he is chasing, a real raison d'etre to invest more to rub shoulders with the elite. While us fans have experienced a really rocking St Marys he has yet to see it (Pompey excluded which was rocking for different reasons). it is a great shame Marcus Liebherr will not witness what is bound to be a memorable occasion and one which will hopefully give Nicola the taste of what can be achieved. The JPT was great but nothing beats playing one of the top teams in Europe and perhaps even getting a result. The draw could not have been better. A real chance to showcase what we can once more become.

It will be an excellent indicator of where Saints stand and where they can get on from here, it will turn the limelights on the club and it's the perfect mix between an away "fun" tie no-one expects you to win and a home tie after which you can bow out after a gallant display.

You're absolutely spot on. But you're forgetting that a lot of the people there in the home end will just be there for the spectacle, so things listed above are more likely! Not saying that those people is a bad thing though. If they manage to legally purchase a ticket from Southampton Football Club for a game of football then they have as much a right as anyone else to be there. Sorry, bit off topic there. Er, where are we? Oh yeah. Go on Nicola, you enjoy it son!

I'd love to see Al, AC and Guly rip their back 4 apart and let the country know Southampton are back. The last meeting we just laid down and died, we played to keep the score down (admittedly after a sending off).

A club with tradition, passion and a pride that we have been down but we are on the way up (with a little investment). I don't care about plastics, because plastics can become real fans. I am giving my ticket to my 17 year old son who has lost interest over the last few years in the hope he can recognise something I am also hoping Nicola will recognise ie this is a club worth backing. We can't lose to be honest. Exit means we can concentrate on promotion with our diggnity intact - and victory? Well let's just wait on that one.

If Cortese has any common sense, basic understaning of business and football, he will realise what potential we have or not and what our support could be like perfectly well, without this game. Good, "proper" support as you say, isn't judged by one game, but across a season, with the sh1t dull league games against lower opposition being as much a marker of our potential as any cup game against Man Utd.

After all, he's the one who mentioned (and we all laughed/moaned) about moving yet again from SMS to a bigger Stadium. I think he already has an idea about the Tiger he has by the tail. But yes, for one week it will be great to be a full ground side again, and Yes, with all the Hospitality sold out and real fans giving as much as the team rather than worrying about their wardrobes. But what would be even BETTER, will be to go into the game on the back of a run of results that gets SMS rocking both before and AFTER the game. Getting those numbers up to 27-28k every week because of our League form. That will show him we mean business

Yes it is a chance to play probably the best team in the country with a full house, but I bet you he would gladly forego this 'glamour tie' for guaranteed promotion - he has his priorities and I don't think the FA Cup is top of his list. Yes, it's a great draw, yes we can't loose either way - but I'm pretty sure that Nicola knows only too well our potential, it's up to us now to reach it.

You know that'll be the case, and it'll show the world that we're still a smallish provincial club. That's not to say we can't get bigger, but the way so many people that have stayed away suddenly get in contact with me to get them tickets now this draw has been made shows how we think about ourselves in terms of size. Also i hope we don't go quite when/if we start getting beaten. Since United's away support is some of the best in the country. Not forgetting too that there is history between us (i'm fairly sure old sour faced always wants to beat us more due to the damage we dished out to them when we were in the prem).

I don't think that is the overriding issue these days, I would prefer to get it done and dusted in one go and avoid the expense of another long midweek trip for the team (probably at the expense of an existing midweek league fixture) and the risk of injuries and additional cards.
