Bit harsh my brats are red and white through and through so are their mates. In fact my kids probably no more about league one footy than they do PL. I imagine we'll being playing another PL reserve side anyway rather than a manure first team.

I'm talking about Dads bringing manure supporting kids, you appear to be a Dad with Saints supporting kids. Spot the difference? Where I was sat in the Itchen stand for the last game I saw several Dads with kids in tow that quite clearly were supporting manure. No offense to you or anyone else.

Leeds beat Man U at OT last season and then their league season came of track and they only just managed to scrape up!

Luckily we'll lose and still manage to go up. Although your example shows it doesn't matter either way.

And that is why we will win.

Those bratty reserves will not expect a league 1 side to give them such a good game.

And the Neviller will finally get the roasting he deserves courtesy of Lallana/Chamberlain.

I loved it on Facebook earlier, once news came out a few people came out saying "how do you get tickets?", the reply was short but sweet: if you don't know you can **** off!

I bet it wont be a reserve team.....

many players that played today will play against us..

Yeah, SAF will see we are no pushovers compared to 2 years ago

Southampton: Davis, James, Lancashire, Perry, Skacel, Gillett (Schnederlin, 56), Surman, Smith (Holmes, 69) Gobern, (McLaggon, 56), McGoldrick, Paterson. Subs (not used): Forecast, Molyneux, Wright-Phillips, Euell

That was the team back in 2009

Very surprised the FA allowed us to play a player we were yet to sign at the time

Fair enough. My experince is kids tend to follow dads example if dad supports manure so do the kids if dad supports saints so do the kids.

well if my Christmas with the inlaws was anything to go by, if the Dad doesn't really support anyone then Chelsea seemed to be the order of the day. How I shook my head is disgust as full Chelsea kit was unwrapped by a Fareham born child. Hope you and your kids enjoy the game.

even 2 years ago was hardly a reserve team against us....and we were pish poor

Van der Sar, Neville, Evans, Vidic, O'Shea, Nani, Anderson, Carrick, Giggs, Welbeck, Berbatov

Subs: Gibson, Possebon, Rooney, Kuszczak, Park, Rafael Da Silva, Fletcher

With Rio now fit they might be even stronger this time round. Bloody hell, reality sets in.

Not the best draw imo.

There wil be loads of hype and one hell of alot of focus on the build up in the media down here for this game, this could prove a big distraction.

As long as the focus remains on what is more important, the league'

I hope the players, who for most this will be a very glamerous tie and very eager to be involved do not hold back in the league games.

Of course it could work the other way and the will be eager to prove they should be in the starting 11,we will see.

That sounds like Milton keynes (were my in laws live) PL shirts abound (though considering their other option I'm not surprised)

I'm sure my kids will love it, though my nine year old does not like to see saint lose puts him in a right bad mood (actually he's not much diffent from me on that score).

It's a poor draw and doesn't excite me in the slightest; not as if we haven't played them recently. I lost interest in the Cup last night when Cheats FC lost, the chance to get revenge on them for last season's exit was the only thing I wanted from the FA Cup this season. As for the United game, I'm just pleased that it will hopefully fund a couple more new players which would seal promotion, the only thing that matters. The result against United is irrelevant.

Chuffed about this draw. If we can score and make a game of it for 60 minutes I'll be delighted. Dont see any negatives

That it could distract our players from the real aim of this season, resulting in a poor run of form and no promotion?

It's only a game of football, and not a very important one either, but I shall enjoy the occasion whatever happens.

That would be far more likely to happen if we had drawn and been dumped out by a club on a similalr level or even lower league. A loss to ManU would still leave the players with a taste of the prem and wanting more, a shock win would be a massive confidence boost.

NA would NOT let this happen. If anything, he would drop any players for the match if they underperform between now and then

It's a great draw for us. It's Manchester United ffs! It doesn't get any higher profile than that! The stadium will be a complete sell-out - meaning a lot of extra £££££££'s. It will be live on telly - meaning a lot of extra £££££££'s.

But most of all - it'll be a great day out for us in a game we won't (lets be honest) be expected to win - so why not have a great day out - win, lose or draw.

OK. Looks like i will a glory hunter. I was planning to be back in the UK for that weekend and catch the charlton match. Looks like that ain't happening. Anyone get me a ticket ;)

Bring it on, at home, we'll give em a game, don't need a draw of course, that wouldn't help, so lets go balls out to win it. We have a Championship squad in League One, it's doable. If we loose? so what, but lets at least try :)

Looks to me like we're now professional enough and focussed enough for it to be a bonus not a distraction from promotion.

I was speaking to a 'cough! spit!' fan last night, and he said that we should be pleased, as we would make a lot of money out of it. I took great delight in telling him, that unlike 'cough! spit!', we were debt free, so they are the ones who should be greatful.

ps He is after tickets, so be prepared once again, for the home seats being peppered with southern mancs!

If there was ever a match for us to raise our game - this is it !

....and we'll have 20 players trying to get on our team sheet..or even get a place on the bench.

Head feeling says even MU res. ought to be be good enough

Heart feeling still remembers 1976

We can win ..providing MU don't get too many penalties.

I doubt it will be on live. TV is always obsessed by prem v prem fixtures. Hope I'm wrong mind you, because I can't go on the saturday, but if it's moved to the sunday I can. Anyone know when the TV games will be announced?

Posted

Good opportunity to rest the first team and put out the apprentices. Still raise the same amount of cash, give the youngsters a day to remember and would be the ultimate humiliation if they even pulled off a draw.

Quite soon I think so either today or tomorrow.

Are the club told that they WILL be on TV or are the clubs asked if they want to be on TV?

Man Utd have a Premier League match in the following Tuesday, so it would be a Saturday match.

I can guarantee this will not happen

Last 2 times we have played them in the Cup we have been relegated come the end of the season. I think.

You mean we were in a different league the next season ;)

IF it is on telly :-

1/ ITV has first choice

2/ ESPN has 2 games schedules for Saturday 29th (11:45 and 4:45) and 1 on Friday 28th (19:00) BUT nothing for Sunday or Monday. (?? therefore ITV's 2 games on Sunday ??)

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/broadcasting/news/a190468/espn-secures-fa-cup-rights-deal.html

From the 2010/11 season, ITV will still have first choice of FA Cup matches, but ESPN will be able to broadcast two live games from every round

Leeds lost their league form so badly last year after beating man utd. However still looking forward to it

Team played utd last time out:

Davis, James, Perry, Lancashire, Skacel, Smith , McGoldrick, Gillett, Surman, Gobern, Paterson.

We are so much better now!

I'm quite shocked seeing that, I'd actually forgotten what a seriously crap team we had

Even Surman & McGoldrick were pretty lightweight and haven't really done anything since leaving.

This is the same team that Rupert was convinced would make it back to the PL, guided by our Dutch maestros

Posted

There will be all the usual phish invoking 1976 as that is all crap journalists can come up with.

Half the Kingsland full of Man Utd supporters.

Man Utd falling over everywhere and *****ing and moaning at the referee.

Man Utd getting the obligatory penalty.

Fergie jumping around like a gimmer ****.

If there is any justice we will put them out.

At least we can look back and laugh? Right?

I think you'll find the Kingsland is pretty full of Saints fans most weeks so there won't be room for our manc friends.

I'm just sad the United fans aren't as excited.

"But my first thought when it was drawn was how ****ing dull drawing Southampton away is."

:'(

to be fair we had plenty of fans posting similar when we in the top flight and drew Northampton in a cup for the second time in three years

There is some real ****** being posted on here about "united in the home end" - for a start we have no problem filling our own ground for big games, last season selling out for Exeter, MK Dons and Leeds at home.

Last time we played United the only ones who went up when they scored were a few in the executive boxes.

As long as season ticket holders buy up their own seats and the rest are sold to database who are also going to 2 unglamarous games (eg buying for charlton and carlisle at home at the same time) then I am confident it wont be a problem.

Fingers crossed saints don't do anything silly with the ticket prices, no more that £30 should be the limit.

the way we have played last few home games could be a top match which we can enjoy with no pressure.

We still owe united for that relegation, so would be nice to turn them over again. Plus remember Leeds beat them last year as a league one club.

Taken from Man U's official page

"Reds face Saints

United have been drawn away to Southampton in the FA Cup fourth round.

The Reds overcame Liverpool on Sunday to book their place in round four, while Southampton, who are currently third in League One, earned their spot with a 2-0 win over Blackpool at St. Mary's on Saturday.

Sir Alex gave his reaction to MUTV straight after the draw and said he is looking forward to the tie. "They had a great result yesterday against Blackpool.

"It's a nice stadium and good pitch and they're playing well. It's a tie we're looking forward to."

The last meeting between the two sides came in the FA Cup third round in January 2009. United ran out 3-0 winners at St. Mary's that day thanks to goals from Danny Welbeck, Nani and Darron Gibson.

The Reds have played Southampton 14 times in the Cup, winning eight, drawing five and losing just once. That one defeat, of course, came in the 1976 FA Cup final at Wembley.

This latest meeting will be played over the weekend of 29 and 30 January"
