benjii Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Who should we rest for this one? With the priority of Exeter away in the league on the Tuesday after? I wouldn't "rest" anyone from the start (although there is bound to be an element of horse-for-courses in relation to the two games) as we won't have played a match in the previous seven days.
Turkish Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Cue all the mongs singing... "We support our local team" before being drowned out by "You support your local ****" And cue all the double mongs singing "Liverpool" That "liverpool" singing was one of my most embarassing moments at a football stadium. Why do it? Pointless and embarassing.
NN2 Saint Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 I think we stand a chance of beating them, we have been playing some cracking football at home at present and should have had 4 yesterday let alone the 8 we could have had against Exeter and Huddersfield. OK obviously these teams aren't the same standard as Utd but you never know. People saying about the atmosphere in 09 well what did you expect when you look at the team we put out, we have a team that are chasing promotion and winning well at present something that I for one at 23 have rarely seen for SFC. Roll on Tuesday night in ultimately what is a far more important match than any cup game this season
Saint_Jonny Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Pleased with it as it'll be on TV and its not a game im bothered about so much that i'll do a 500 mile round trip. The game in 2009 was awful, the atmosphere was terrible. Would have preferred chelsea or spurs, if only for a bit of variety.
benjii Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 I didn't bother going in '09 because it seemed obvious it would be embarrassing and depressing. This time I am more optimistic.
CLOTH EARS Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 I didn't bother going in '09 because it seemed obvious it would be embarrassing and depressing. This time I am more optimistic. and you have every right to be optimistic mate. We were ****e in 2009, we are a much different proposition now thats for sure! I honestly believe that Saints can give them a hell of a game this time!
saintmatt Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 will definitely banter them about our debt-free situation vs their debt situation
sidthesquid Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Why do we always draw United in the FA Cup? Just been looking back and thought I'd compare with Man City as an example. We last drew Man City in 1960, but since then not once, however this is the TENTH time we have drawn United. (Fyi - 1963, 1964, 1972, 1976, 1977, 1992, 1996, 2005, 2009 & now 2011). As Motty would say, extraordinary
gazd83 Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 'Plastic fans, blah blah blah' Change the record!!
Matthew Le God Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Why do we always draw United in the FA Cup? Just been looking back and thought I'd compare with Man City as an example. As Motty would say, extraordinary Man Utd since 1960 have been far better than Man City (or indeed pretty much every other team bar maybe Liverpool). Thus they have progressed further in the FA Cup meaning it is more likely if Saints go on a cup run they will draw them at some point than a side that rarely progresses to the later rounds of the FA Cup in the last 50 years.
Smirking_Saint Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Well, another winnable game at home !!! COYR Cue all the morons in Northam singing 'plastics' when the ground is at capacity W*nkers.
Paul Chuckle Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 According to their website we've only beaten them once in FA Cup. They appear to have forgotten about 1992!! http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2011/Jan/FA-Cup-fourth-round-draw.aspx
merrimd Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Southampton: Davis, James, Lancashire, Perry, Skacel, Gillett (Schnederlin, 56), Surman, Smith (Holmes, 69) Gobern, (McLaggon, 56), McGoldrick, Paterson. Subs (not used): Forecast, Molyneux, Wright-Phillips, Euell That was the team back in 2009 That entire team looks ridiculously lightweight, especially at the back. Let's just hope we can keep this fine run of form up! I had totally forgotten just how sh1te we were just a couple of years ago. What a difference to the team we have now. Excluding Davis, there is not a player in that team that I would have in the 2011 squad, let alone team!

Actually Morgan makes my starting 11 and I'd take Surman back every day of the week.

They appear to have forgotten about 1992!! http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2011/Jan/FA-Cup-fourth-round-draw.aspx I have a feeling that a win on pens technically is a draw for the records.
Griffo Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 I'd take Surman back and probably McGoldrick too.
Whitey Grandad Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 I have a feeling that a win on pens technically is a draw for the records. Correct. The game was drawn but Saints progressed on penalties.

Danny R Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 That "liverpool" singing was one of my most embarassing moments at a football stadium. Why do it? Pointless and embarassing. Singing Chelsea was equally bad when they beat us 4-0.
the_barmy_saints_army Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 this is what sir Al said: "They had a great result yesterday against Blackpool." "It's a nice stadium and good pitch and they're playing well. It's a tie we're looking forward to."
croydonsaint Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Absolutely the best possible draw............................. If we get knocked out then no worries as clearly it is all about getting promotion. No loss of confidence in losing to Man U. If we win, what a result. No pressure for us iether way, genuinely fancy our chances but wont be too gutted if we lose. Cant wait.

Firstly an apology, I forgot we played City in 2007. Otherwise of the other 'top' teams in the last fifty years we have plaayed Spuds 4 times, Liverpool & Everton 3 times and Arsenal & Chelsea twice. So overall, I rest my case.....
Mowgli Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 For me, the most exciting thing about this draw is that there are apparently bids out for big players to come in during January. Whilst they are thinking about it, in comes the opportunity to play Man Utd in your first month with your new club. Sign here Mr Le Fondre...
John Cool Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 .. Le Fondre sounds a bit foreign, not Israeli or Norwegian is he?

Problem is most (including Mr Le Fondre) are now cup-tied. Might stop one or two wanting to leave (Punch?)
Raven on the wing Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 For NA it will great for him to experience a full house @ St Marys. For those who moaned about the lack of atmosphere when we played them a few years ago in the cup - we didnot even have a corner that day !!!

Sign here Mr Le Fondre... putting to one side the fact that he is probably not regarded by most of our fans fans as a big signing, he's cup tied. Oh and before anyone says he is 5'9" so not `big' either.
Saints foreva Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 For NA it will great for him to experience a full house @ St Marys. For those who moaned about the lack of atmosphere when we played them a few years ago in the cup - we didnot even have a corner that day !!! The lack of atmosphere had nothing to do with the team losing, I was surprised they only scored three. There were far too many Man Utd fans in the home ends, this might be a little different now though with there being no Lowe.
Viking Saint Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 nobody will expect us to win this so the pressure is off and we can go out and just play football.....I just hope that unlike two years ago, we don't get overawed and turn in a feeble performance....I would've liked a good cup run but this is a win-win situation for us....nothing to lose COYR!!!!

The number of Man Utd fans in the home ends had nothing to do with the team losing, I was suprised they only scored three. Our team that day was awful. We have a far better team this time round, which means we will get in their half, which means the fans in the stadium will wake up and start to make some noise. It will be interesting to see the difference.
Chez Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 There were far too many Man Utd fans in the home ends, this might be a little different now though with there being no Lowe. make no mistake the ground will once again be full of Dads bringing their Manure supporting sons with them. Whatcanyoudo other than pray for a Saints win and for those little bastards to enjoy the jubilation of the Saints fans so much that are tell their Dads that from now on the'd prefer to support Saints and not the ****y mancs?
Chez Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Can't wait to see Lallana up against Neville. We can at last see if he could make it at that level. Nice reward for signing that deal to almost immediately get the chance to strutt yourself against the Champions elect.

There were far too many Man Utd fans in the home ends, this might be a little different now though with there being no Lowe. Really don't think there were that many United in our end. Main problem was a combination our team playing sh1te and 4k+ Man Utd outsinging us, Saints fans struggle to get too much going when block 42 is lost.

Main problem was a combination our team playing sh1te and 4k+ Man Utd outsinging us, Saints fans struggle to get too much going when block 42 is lost. there were so many tourists (or at the very least passengers) its not true. Moving large cunks of the Northam doesn't help either.
merrimd Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Not sure there is too much comparison with the last game. I honestly think we will give this one a go, whereas last time we just rolled over and let our collective tummy get tickled. That will make such a difference to the atmosphere. I hope.
Jimmy Gabriel's Halo Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Do you know what, and I concede I may well be in a minority of one here, but I'd rather be watching the league game against Charlton that week-end. Far more important for our long term future.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Can they ban cameras from the ground to stop the ****s in the Itchen-Chapel corner from taking photos everytime United have a set piece. It's Embarrassing.
bjk Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Bound to be on tv so a great chance to show the nation what a great side we are with the whole country (bar united and Pompey fans)rooting for us.
69 saint Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 I think utd will put out a week team with the big guns on the bench, i think we go 2 up then the big guns will come on and end up 2-2
Windmill Arm 2 Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 I'm looking forward to Alpines scathing criticism of Nigel Adkins and the team when we don't win.
Tractor_Saint Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 I'm looking forward to Alpines scathing criticism of Nigel Adkins and the team when we don't win. Talk about negativity. We're gonna win 3-1
Chez Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 first side to beat manure this season - now that would be quite a claim, especially if they go the rest of the season unbeaten. League cup defeat forgotten about of course.
rocknrollman no2 Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 I didnt bother going to the last game with Manure, because at the time our team couldnt win a raffle and we were playing the kids. But this time i think we will put up a much better fight and even though i have to move my seat (block 42),i will definately go to this one.
Hatch Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 someone buy me a ticket, I'm probably a long way down in the pecking order but would like to jump the queue. Thanks.
sfc4prem Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Distraction from the main priority. Makes our schedule a bit more hectic too. Shame.
lethallee Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 We may get beat 3-0 again but surely our overall performance won't be any worse than in 2009. The only concern I have is that we no longer have the 'world class' Smith playing for us
doddisalegend Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 make no mistake the ground will once again be full of Dads bringing their Manure supporting sons with them. Bit harsh my brats are red and white through and through so are their mates. In fact my kids probably no more about league one footy than they do PL. I imagine we'll being playing another PL reserve side anyway rather than a manure first team.
Dr Who? Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Fantastic! We were never going to win the cup so this is the kind of prestige game we could do with to keep spirits up. Be great to see how our lot do against a proper Premiership side! Ok, probably nothing, but a we'll be real underdogs. COYR! Leeds beat Man U at OT last season and then their league season came of track and they only just managed to scrape up!
