Saints vs Manchester Utd - 4th Round FA Cup Draw

Last night my father in law, who is a Man U fan, was presented with 70 presents for his 70th birthday - my son got him a Man U shirt with Ron and 70 on the back. The family also agreed that he should go to a game at OT, as he has never been there and I was just looking for tickets on line.

Then this came up - now, I wonder......!!!!

Southampton: Davis, James, Lancashire, Perry, Skacel, Gillett (Schnederlin, 56), Surman, Smith (Holmes, 69) Gobern, (McLaggon, 56), McGoldrick, Paterson. Subs (not used): Forecast, Molyneux, Wright-Phillips, Euell

That was the team back in 2009

That entire team looks ridiculously lightweight, especially at the back. Let's just hope we can keep this fine run of form up!

It's sad that Markus could not be here to see it.

Indeed Whitey indeed.

He would have loved to see his team, in his full stadium taking on the best in the Country and one of the best in the world.

A perfect oppurtunity to pass on the "Southampton" bug to his family

Brilliant! Who wants to watch Cheltenham and Blackpool etc?!

I can crack open the face paints, pre-order my programme and take the family to this one :) The kids will love seeing Berbatov, Rooooonnneeeyyyy and Owen (if we haven't signed him by then). Great stuff. Higher prices should keep some of the unruly sorts away as well :) :) :)

Living in Cheltenham, I did.

Hopefully having bought tickets for four of us to watch Saints vChelt. this might enable a sporting chance to see us take on the Mancs. Questionable however if I want to watch those c^nting prima donna's really, but in the back of my mind is the spirit of 1976 that we might beat the bastards.

The one draw I didn't want. A full stadium and why? So our fans can watch man utd? Never understood it

Have you ever thought that perhaps the reason why fans come out of the woodwork is because they want to see saints turn man utd over? And not come just to watch man utd.

Tbh I can't see how it makes any difference to you,me or all the other regular fans, all the regulars will get their seats and will watch the game, the only difference being they will be watching in a full stadium and we might have to wait a bit longer for a beer.

Get over yourself,a paying customer is a paying customer....I think I would prefer an otherwise vacant seat to goto a saints fan rather than a man utd fan who lives in Southampton, wouldn't you?

Great draw - I am not expecting them to win but hopefully they'll play well and go out with their heads held high and concentrate on the league. The way they have played lately it will be great for the players to play up against the likes of some of Utd talent old and new. Fingers crossed it'll be on tv too to earn some extra money for the club! : )

A fantastic draw, so long as it doesn't effect our league form.

A full-house is guaranteed with this fixture, so it'll be good to see St. Mary's rocking again.

Like others have said, we're in a much better position now than when we played them last time round, so fingers crossed we can give them a game.

It's the FA Cup, so anything is possible.

I don't get all this plastics stuff. Surely we just have a number of fans who do 5-15 games per season, it's just they all come to this one. I don't think it's really people who never come.
Exactly. I do shift work and last season made only 13 games in all competitions. I'm off for the 4th round weekend, and will be doing my utmost to get tickets for this.

What an amazing draw, not only should we have a full house. But there will be NO pressure on the lads at all! And as I hate to say it, some will be wanting to put on a show for any scouts (Not Lallana, the likes of Morgan/Chamberlain).

Going into this game, EVERYONE will be working extra hard for the next few games to get to play against Man Utd, Adkins now has a superb incentive for the players.

If we do lose, we can concentrate on the league and as long as the team put in 100% there's nothing to get downhearted about. And if we win, think about the confidence that will do to the team, they'll play without any fear against any team knowing that they beat the best team in the country.

St Mary's was rocking yesterday and has been for the last few home games.

Only "bonus" this time will be the usual 4k United taking the p*ss as always, brilliant.

Don't take what I said as an insult... I'm sure you'll be fine, usually they give it to season ticket holders, and then if you are on the system and I imagine by that point it will be sold out. Are you on the system? If so, you should have a chance.

I am indeedy used to be a member etc so should be fine, not taking offence at you, just get a bit miffed when people moan about other fans being "bad fans" just because they don't make every game :)

Many a true word spoken in jest.... ;)

As with the last time we played them, I would rather be washing my hair.

If only Marcus was here now we are starting to take off I hope his family comes and they are proud of what we are achieving on behalf of Marcus!

I hope they don't come along....we don't want people labelling them 'plastic' for coming to see a 'glamour' game... ;-)

I dont get all this sh*te about plastics. Many of us live too far away to be regulars, but without the so called plastics you will not fill St Mary's unless you open it up to more Manc fans.

So what do you want, more mancs or the place heaving with saints fans?

Btw, absolutely brilliant draw!

You are right, that team was basically crap lets be honest! They beat us 3-0 and didn't need to break sweat! We only had 3 or 4 half decent players in that squad and thats why we got relegated. We will give them a much better game this time with our current team. We have much more quality available to us now.

Well after the great day out that I had yesterday I thought I might do the next round as well. Seeing as it's Utd and there'll be a scramble for tickets I shan't bother. Do another league game instead.

Looking forward to the very unsmug not received my ticket, firkin postie must have nicked it thread though

****in hate united, am I deluding myself when I think we have a chance if we should sneak an early goal?

I don't think so.

They may put out a weakened side and, even if they don't, they really are nothing special at the moment IMO (with the exception of Nani). Obviously if the likes of Rooney and Berbatov play and decide to play well they should be able to cause us damage but equally I can see Saints scoring against a back 4 including the likes of Evans, Rafael, Smalling... If the back 4 includes Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra things may be a little harder!

The key battle will be in midfield and it'll be interesting to see how we line up.

We are probably one of the best ever third tier sides and we are probably better than several sides in the Championship. If we catch them on a slightly off day and play well I honestly think we can win this one.
