Under Weststand Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 End of the day he is usually funny & off the wall, he had a slight sense of humour bypass & probably lost the excuse of a weakened side when Adkins did the same with 8-changes. No big deal really. There is every chance we will be playing them next year, will be interesting to hear his comments then?
carljack Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 This is the same man who said Plymouth were a Big club,I do not remember what the problem was but he had issues with us before a game we played against Plymouth when Burley was our Manager,I seem to remember he went on about how we should have shown Plymouth more respect,FWIW I do not think he likes us very much. Sour Mash Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 Didn't expect anything less of him. Buenos Aires Saint Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 It was a clear over reaction by Holloway.. When I was at school, he visited for an evening and gave a speech. I spoke to him for a while and told him I was a saints fan and he gave me a lot of banter for that and seemed to dislike the club.. No idea why.. He complains about us chanting 'premier league, you're having a laugh', but he has been in football long enough to know that if you are a premier league side, whether Man United or Blackpool, and you are losing to a league 1 club, whether it be Southampton or D & Redbridge, fans are going to sing that.. I'm sure Blackpool fans were singing the same when they beat Liverpool away.. It's football. Get over it Ian.

kpturner Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 It was no disrespect to Southampton who made changes too. And I imagine what they have spent on their team and their wage structure is not too different to us. They have good players, exciting players. It was a great game of football and they deserved it on the day. Their second goal was worthy of winning any game. I know I shouldn't but I applauded it. Nuff said
Avenger Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 Mr Holloway is a small man in both size and mind, his comments show him to be very insecure as he constantly makes remarks about Blackpool deserving to be in the Premiership ................ maybe deep down he knows they are shouldn't be there? However we will be playing them in the Championship next season ............. you heard it here first!!!
dune Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 If I was Holloway i'd be very concerned because his squad has been shown to be very very weak. We both played weakened side and our reserves were far superior to his. I think he ****ed up with his team selection because Blackpool players will now start asking questions of themselves and I envisage that their confidence will have taken a battering from such a comprehensive defeat. You just watch them tumble down the league now.
SuperMikey Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 Seems to me as if IH was a bit bitter, but that's understandable. If I had put out a side very similar to one that had done quite well against Villa in the Prem not long ago, and that side had got turned over by a chopped-and-changed League One side, I would be a bit bitter too. Not very professional on his behalf though, i'm sure there are a lot of Blackpool fans quite embarrassed by his post-match interview out there.. um pahars Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 Oh deary me Ian, you have gone from someone whose comments I used to appreciate to someone who comes across a tad bitter. I personally think the "taunting" songs from "You're not famous anymore", "Premiership, you f***ed it up", "You'll never play here again" to "Premiership/Championship, you're having a laugh" are a tad lame, but it's all just banter at the end of the day. Nothing is really meant except basking in your own success, so to get hot under the collar about a small chant is somewhat missing the point and merely showing a weakness in your won character. Of course it has done well to divert attention away from his own side3s poor performance and as others have said it was a tad disrespectful to put out a weakened side in the first place. I personally didn't think it was much of a giant killing, as we're not a bad side and that wasn't Blackpool's first team (but then again, neither was it ours). If Holloway really is that upset about such a chant, then I think he needs to rethink his priorities and grow a pair.
dune Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 LOL, we must be doing something right. Ha Ha, the little southern clubs really hate us. Professor Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 Lets not forget that Holloway has achieved a lot with Blackpool. Promotion via the playoffs is like winning a lottery and often means going straight back down, but so far he has made Blackpool respectable on a minimal budget. Unfortunately the Prem is all about money, so the FA cup is no longer respected as it once was, but on that basis he did the right thing to rest a lot of first choice players. What he didn't seem to notice was that Pardew had done much the same, only our squad is deeper and Pardew does play rotation as a norm so team changes have much less impact on Saints. But the bottom line, as others have said, is that a manager should not allow himself to be provoked by opposing fans, he should be bigger than that. Redondo Saint Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 I don't think he said anything wrong. dune Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 Holloway should also perhaps be remined of Blackpools main achivement in their history. 1953. I do wonder whether he may well have shot himself in the foot yesterday with the fans if subsequent premier league results reflect Blackpools performances and let's face it they have been very very fortunate in a lot of games they've played. captainchris Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 Respect in competition is earnt by fighting hard in the race and being magnanimous in victory and defeat. 'Generous' comments which are 'qualified' with exceptions are worthless and insincere. I was supporting Blackpool as the underdog in the PL and with the Brett connection, a guy who I had great respect for as a player here. As a Saints supporter why should I respect Holloway now? The singing is pure banter as you well know Mr Holloway. We took your supporters singing in the same context - no different to any other football match across the country every week. So what was the motive behind the outburst, why are you bitter? You even chose to 'qualify' further by alluding to the wealth of our club and what we may be paying our players compared to yours - completely unnecessary - why did you feel the need to devalue our victory? A very sad moment and one which I hope - looking back, you are embarrassed by.

Hedgehog Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 Don't really care about his comments, but is it not the case that many think he is funny, because to some extent his accent comes accross as him being a bit simple? The press,TV etc. feel that he comes accross as a bit of fresh air, and speaks his mind, even though at times he comes out with the same bollix that other managers have, but without the simpleton voice. Deppo Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 "I don't think they should be quite so disrespectful" Those little hedges suggest to me that we didn't make our disrespect strong enough. Shame on you, Saints fans. Next time we play one of his teams, I think we should sing, "Ian Holloway is a c*nting f*cknugget and [insert his team here] should go p*ss up a rope", just so that he understands how little respect we have for him and his team. It needs to be clearer.
Deppo Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 Also, wasn't the point of the chants to annoy Blackpool and Holloway? And isn't the fact that he mentioned it proof that it worked? I think it's a bit hypocritical for fans to have a go at Holloway for having a go at us for having a go at him. That was the point. Wasn't it? It should have been more annoying if he hadn't said anything about it, like it didn't bother him one iota. Except it did annoy him. Which annoys us. For some reason. Its always more annoying to me when I hurl abuse at Hypocondriac and he doesn't respond. I like it when he does respond.

It was one of the main features on th FA website on the run up to yesterdays matches, clearly in response to IH's dismissive comments. The fact that they played and beat saints on the way was not missed either. Careful who you upset on the way up Ian, you may meet them on the way back down. Victor Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 I am quite happy to forgive one silly comment about one particular chant from a bloke who brings a lot of enjoyment to the game and encouragement to the smaller clubs. He was generally very complimentary about us and said we had some exciting players. The game at the top level has become pretty petty and tedious - Man U again won today by cheating and the football in that game was pretty dire despite all the money they've spent. More and more clubs falling into foreign ownership with who has the most money generally being the deciding factor in who wins. How about a bit of forgiveness and gratitude for someone who's done extremely well with very limited resources and ensured that the game retains it's fascination. scotty Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 Disrespecting a premier league team by using a generic chant that pretty much every club has heard at some point? Someones taking the song a bit too seriously... Should of shown his own fans more respect by actually playing a half decent team instead of the youth players he loves to mention. As for the Brighton fans, wow. There obsession with us is comical. They'll grasp that we dont care about them, eventually. Definitely looking over their shoulders. um pahars Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 something ironic about saints fans being precious about holloway being...err, precious I do think there's a bit of a difference. The initial chant was just the usual tongue in cheek wind up you find at many football grounds. Nothing malicious and I'm sure most of those singing it (and witnessing it) realise that Blackpool are in the Premiership on merits. Nothing was really meant in it. However, his repsonse to the national media had a bit of vitriol, anger and petulance about it. He certainly meant that. I think he brings something different to the game and Blackpool have had my support this year (and not just because they wear the couours of The Font), but just felt he let himself down yesterday with that undeserved whinge. Chin Strain Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 I'm pretty sure a quick search of Youtube would see Blackpool singing the same song to higher division teams in the last couple of years....and would guarantee that they were 'disrespectful' to Liverpool when they won there earlier in the season. landford.saint Posted 10 January, 2011 Share Posted 10 January, 2011 Fergie, Wenger, inthe same situation (and thet have both been guilty of playing some "second" team players in cup matches they have gone on to lose) would not have made Hollie comments. Something obviously got to him on saturday, he was obviously very annoyed at something. Other managers would have taken it on the chin, praised the oposition and left it at that.... But Hollies outburst has only damaged his own reputation. Just a little crack, can bring a whole dam down.... Perhaps the stress is getting to him, and he is beginning to show it, perhaps it just happened to be us that got his spite.
Window Cleaner Posted 10 January, 2011 Share Posted 10 January, 2011 Holloway sour grapes ?? never:p We have players that would easily become regulars in his motley first XI, they can't afford them though. Why?? because they seem to have spent most of their Premier League money on ground developments and training facilities, their side whilst doing reasonably well in the EPL will come unstuck sooner or later and their lack of squad depth will find them out.
