We will soon be back above them, and he will be long gone. every game where a lower league team are beating a top flight club they sing that song!! He had a go at us before when he was in charge of another of his clubs that we beat!

Ah yes... Ally McJockstrap wasn't it?

Against Plymouth, he didn't think we should have been given a blatent penalty... and after the match complained that 'if that was a penalty, you can call me Ally McJockstrap...'

Not sure I can ever remember Holloway beating us, maybe he hasn't.

Apparently, he was less than impressed with Saints fans chanting "Premier League, you're having a laugh".

"It's an unbelievable turnaround to have their fans singing 'Premier League, you're having a laugh' at us," added the Blackpool manager.

"Well I am having a laugh, I am loving every minute of it because my team has earned the right to be there.

"I don't think they should be quite so disrespectful, maybe they're a little bit jealous of the fact a little club like Blackpool can do it and Southampton have fallen from grace. But I'm sure they'll be back."

He missed the bit where they were singing "you're not famous anymore" like every other club that visits St Marys these days ..... to be fair to him, he is quite protective of their achievements and rightly so but the chants are friendly banter really and I'm sure he knows that really. Anyhow, we might play them again next season as that PL bottom half is pretty tight!

At the end of the day it was a 'chant', fans sing it variences of all over the country. We made eight chnages from Monday and we're 'lowly' league one. He advertised the fact that the side he was going to put out would be changed, so feck off Holloway you can't have it both ways.

why did he and Blackpool even bother joining the competition?

Anyway Holloway is talking bull. He says a great day out for all the youngsters, but the average age of the starting line up was 24.5 for Saints and 26.2 for them (I had to guess Liam Tomsett's age at 18)

So would Blackpool...

I think he's a bit older than that. ;)

Well done Ian for inspiring your second (or was it third) string, they must be pen in hand to stay at Bloomfield after you just diss'ed them.

Premier League, you ARE having a laugh (as a manager).

Posted

maybe when you get to the premier league you lose your sense of humour and take yourself far far too seriously. (Were we like that a few years back?)

Why are Brighton fans getting all excited about this? I mean really is it that interesting? If it had been Brighton beating them today and the same had happened I doubt I'd have raised an eyebrow. Anyway, they knocked Pompey out, so we've got to be extra nice to them now. :D

This quote is by Lincoln Imp and shows they dont what they're talking about "Adkins has been going downhill fast ever since he left Scunny. Arrogant and prone to patronising remarks. I wonder how he and Dean Wilkins rub along?" - bunch of mugs

Disrespecting a premier league team by using a generic chant that pretty much every club has heard at some point? Someones taking the song a bit too seriously...

Should of shown his own fans more respect by actually playing a half decent team instead of the youth players he loves to mention.

As for the Brighton fans, wow. There obsession with us is comical. They'll grasp that we dont care about them, eventually. Definitely looking over their shoulders.

What youth players? He had 2 sub 22 in his starting 11, as did we.

Meant in the squad. Reading that premier league article, saying he filled his bench with half the youth team.

Holloway: "To bring all my second-year YTS players along and give them a chance, it's a great day for them."

What an ungracious ****ing moron

Not really. He said a lot of nice things about us and anyone who sang "Premier League, you're having a laugh" is complicit in a bout of embarrassing numptyness and dinloism so he's right there. I am surprised he seems to have taken it to heart, which is strange, as although dinloish and numptyfied it was utterly predictable.

I forgive Holloway because he is a bit mad isn't he and prone to say just about anything

Brighton's obsession with us is a little disturbing and weird though. Still it's nice to be noticed for a change.

i cant stand the bloke or neil warnock i find neither funny or likeable characters. imo they two managers who love the sound of thier own voices and the cameras too much. yet the media love their sense of 'fresh air' and 'telling like its is opinions' and continue to fawn at thier feet for quotes.

Didn't go today and have no interest in the cups, but if the fans can get into a managers head like that, I salute you.

The blokes a loveale nutter, but just showed a very weak charcteristic in his management skills. Nice one Saints fans

I've got it!

What he did today was deflect attention from the fact his Prem team was torn apart by a League One team.

If we're lucky enough to get a televised tie, the perfect way to get back at him... we make sure we remind him of the fact we beat him by belting out a few rounds of 'Are you watching Holloway'

I thought that too, especially after his commetns about it being lowest priority, happy to be out of it, fewer games etc etc. Why bother playiong in the event then? Wjy not save the entrance fee?

Or maybe, in fact about 100% definite, he makes comments like that to lessen the impact on his team that they were shown up badly by a division 3 team. Blame it all on a few reserves not being up to it and "well we didn't want to win anyway".

Still bet they would rather have won 2-0 than lost 2-0.

Hollaway you k no b head if you read this (which you won't) that game yesterday was played between two championship standard sides and we played you of the park and yes premiership you are having a laugh with that side you put out. I like a lot of people have a great deal of admiration for you with what you have done at Blackpool but today you have gone down in my estimation.

Posted

Hollaway expressed interest in the Saints managers job but Nicola choose "our Nigel" and what a great choice

Also as mentioned it was their fans wo started the "we are premier league" stuff - storm in a teacup stuff anyway

Great win, good performance onward and upward

Totally agree.

Its a countrywide chant........wonder if he got upset when their fans were singing "Champions league, you're having a laugh" to Arsenal a few weeks back ?

No, I doubt it too.

Posted

holloway is upset that he didn't get to go to massive prem ground to get pay day from tickets & lose without anyone noticing

very easy to lose to big club then say but it was our reserves bit harder lossing to div3 XI

Posted

Funny also how he mentioned jealousy as one of the reasons why that song was sung.

I can honestly say I'm not jeaous of Blackpool in anyway, about any element of their football club. Not even their league status.

I'd much rather be in our position, building the foundations for a long term, successful (hopefully) stay in the top divisions, rather than a one or two year stint at a club without much infrastucture.

Holloway is one of those 'lovable rogues' in football. Manic when in front of a camera or microphone but often calm otherwise. As to those over on the 'bummers board', did they not sing a similar song to us when we played them? Did NA get so up his own arrrs that he had to comment on the radio? Of course not. NA has his feet firmly planted and he saw it all for what it was, just banter. Football, like many lines of business, is a hard game and if you have the tendency to dislike being called names then you are best off out of it. Maybe Holloway should consider a different line of employment? But then where would we get our laughs after the Fratton Park pantomime finally leaves town?

Posted

So even when he is being beaten by a third div side in a cup comp he manages to shoe horn in the fact that he got Blackpool promoted to the Prem, we know already Ian you tell us at every opportunity.

Posted

I thought Holloways comments were pretty funny actually.

but honestly who really cares, if he cant handle a few fans taking the **** then maybe the pressure got to him a little bit, if he didnt want it he should have played a stronger side, a side that i'm sure would have probably beaten us, but they have bigger things to worry about, like staying in the premier league.

As for Brighton fans always talking about us, it's a bit odd... where has this come from, did they used to do it when we were in the prem? Or is it a jealousy thing since we've fallen from grace and they think we're throwing our weight around a little?

Posted (edited)

Thought his comments were hilarious - holloway does camp in his inimitable, aggrieved style. On one interpretation they contain alot of respect for us, admitting we're a big club, even if we've temporarily fallen from grace. But for now they are premiership and we're not famous anymore.
