hypochondriac Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 Fantastic keeper. Produces time after time and it must be so difficult sitting out every season. Deserves praise.
Saintandy666 Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 He'll be our number 1 very soon. I don't think Kelvin has more than 1 season left at the level we want to be at.
Lighthouse Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 Yeah he was pretty good today, although that's pretty easy when you're up against Jason Euell. If he'd scored today he would have doubled his goal tally at St Mary's.
Chez Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 came and failed to get a few crosses that on another day coud have cost us. Not sure I was as impressed as some of you. Not saying I don't rate him, he is great cover, but just didn't think he was outstanding today. One decent save is pretty much all he did.

Golden Balls Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 I like him but his kicking was awful and he misjudged two crosses that could have resulted in goals for them.
niceandfriendly Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 Very much looking forward to watching Bart as our number 1 in the future.
niceandfriendly Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 I don't think he'll ever be our No. 1. I reckon it's completely nailed on.
CanadaSaint Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 I'm not convinced about Bart, and he has one of the greatest weaknesses a goalie can have - a rather fragile psyche. If he makes one mistake, another is very likely to follow. This, to me, is a definite area for the cheque book.
Liquidshokk Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 I like him but his kicking was awful and he misjudged two crosses that could have resulted in goals for them. This. Thought he was a bit shakey today but know what his potential is though.
paulwantsapint Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 Bart is a great understudy he hasn't really ever let us down is he the longest serving player at club?
Saint Garrett Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 Bart is a great understudy he hasn't really ever let us down is he the longest serving player at club? Surely thats Lallana ?
paulwantsapint Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 going more on idea of bart making debut 5 years ago
benjii Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 I like him but his kicking was awful and he misjudged two crosses that could have resulted in goals for them. His kicking usually is awful, as it was today. Unless he sorts it out he'll never be top drawer.
benjii Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 Not surprised he's nervous when chances are so rare and everyone us waiting for errors. He may make some dodgy decisions on crosses but he's inexperienced. Besides Davis does too so the occasional errors are irrelevant. It's not about being a top class keeper yet, it's about being better than Davis. At the moment I'd say they're about the same. Davis is far superior.

Tractor_Saint Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 (edited) His kicking usually is awful, as it was today. Unless he sorts it out he'll never be top drawer. Really? Bart was great at catching on crosses (something Davis is horrendous at). Also, as soon as Bart picked the ball up he was looking for options of throwing. One of them was a throw out to Richardson which allowed us to surge forward. His save was top class today and I don't think he had any worse a kicking game than Davis usually has. There was a period last season Pardew played Bart because Davis was injured and I was susprised that Davis got his place back. I think Bart has great potential at this club Oh, and I wonder if Davis knew anything about him not even being on the bench - he turned up to sign autographs with (I think) his dad around 12:20 today... Lighthouse Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 In the last 2 seasons Bart has played 14 games and we've won 11 of them. We lost at Leeds and Colchester and drew with Norwich in the JPT (Bart pulled off a Banks-esq save to then win the shootout). That can't be a fluke.
S-Clarke Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 I think it's crazy he's stayed here as long as he has, it's madness that we've got 2 keepers of this quality in L1. I remember last year Bart went to barnsley on loan and he starred during that period. I'm sure he'll be our number 1 at some point, he deserves it tbh.

If he makes one mistake, another is very likely to follow. This, to me, is a definite area for the cheque book. The defence looked very comfortable with Bart taking up a position off his line and pushed the back four up a few yards so the crosses weren't coming in under the crossbar as he caught every thing that was catchable, The two he missed were more shot / crosses struck hard which went over him at the far post and went out of play, even Ron Davies wouldn't have reached them. John and I felt really comfortable with him there. He made one blinder of a tip over and saved two ground shots which he caught and unlike Davis didn't let them come out off him. I'd play him every time instead of Davis but like you I'd like to see us bring in a good goalkeeper that dominates the box and manages the back four.
Chez Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 Really? Bart was great at catching on crosses (something Davis is horrendous at). are you talking about in general or in todays game, because he was poor today coming and totally missing two that could have cost us badly.

I'd like to see us bring in Lewis (P/boro) or Smithies (Huddersfield) next season.
Huffton Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Thought he did ok, nothing out of the ordinary. Looked quite nervous to me, although probablynot helped by the crowd getting on his back after his first awful kick. Unfortunately he didn't improve as the game went on. Personally I prefer Davis, yes Bart is more dominating but I just think Davis is the safer of the two. Bart isn't scared to come for a cross but he flapped at a couple and put the defence under pressure, nearly conceding from one of them. He will become a good player, but I think we should send him out on loan as sitting on the bench is doing nothing for his obviously fragile confidence.
OldNick Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 on the highights he made a very good save and then flapped at one and they could easily have scored. Its all very well going and taking crosses but you have to get everyone not 80% if you go for them.
saint-ross Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Thought Bart had a good game overall, the odd moment of uncertainty, but if you've hardly played any first team games over the last couple of years this will always be the case. Bart just needs a run of games, he has the ability, whilst still being relatively young. I would be more than happy with him as our no.1 in the future.
Super_Uwe Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 I think the main problem that we fans have in judging him is he's had so little game time in the last five years. The knee injury he got in that televised Cup match back in 05/06 has clearly ruined his career to date. Whether it's a mental or physical issue, I don't know, but what is clear is that neither Burley (later in his reign), Pearson, Poortvliet, Wotte, Pardew or Adkins have seen him as their first choice. That's six managers in total and IMO that indicates that he yet good enough to be our first choice keeper. When he first joined, I'm sure I wasn't alone in thinking "Who the hell is he?", but his early performances were absolutely terrific; unbelievable actually for an 18-year old lad who was put into a struggling team in a foreign country. The good thing for him is that he's still young, but obviously he needs to be playing games which may or may not be with us.

From someone who has nearly had their head taken off from a Davis goal kick, I really doubt there can be much in that aspect. Bart has always been good for his distribution from hand, something our goalies should be doing most of the time. Kelvin is more than good enough for this league, but he's down the bottom half in the championship. We will need to replace him should we go up. I saw one of Bart's flap at a cross on the highlights, not a bad effort and the main reason Ormerod failed to make anything of it (IMO). Compare that with the failure to come from Davis against Brentford and you get a possible two goal swing. It's impossible to say without having seen the whole performance and one I expect Adkins to get right. I suppose it's more intrigue in what would happen if Bart were given a run as I feel he could do it because we need someone who can deal with crosses effectively. If there is anything there I fully expect Adkins and his team to latch onto it straight away.
