SamyCM Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Unlikely, but worth a try imo. Morgan had a storming game yesterday and I would keep him in the team as long as he's playing how he is atm. I expect we'll see something like this on Saturday though: -----------------------DAVIS----------------------- RICHARDSON-----FONTE-----SEABORNE-----DICKSON PUNCHEON-----MORGAN-----CHAPLOW------LALLANA ---------------LAMBERT-----BARNARD-------------- Subs: Bart, Butterfield, Harding, Jaidi, Hammond, Chamberlain, Guly I am guessing you mean on Tuesday? Although oxo only played 10 mins on Saturday so he could be fresh? I agree that we don't want to burn Guly out.
SamyCM Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Shouldn't this thread be at the top of the board? (already there are two threads about a Cup game above this one) I understand that Man Utd is a massive club to play against, a one off chance. However Oldham away is an important in getting promotion and hopefully a step closer to where we should be and playing Man Utd at least twice a year ;-).
Saint_Jonny Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Rather beat Oldham on tuesday than Man Utd in a few weeks.
Aardvark Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Is that "Ouanker" (Fr) ("Mastabatter" (Ger), Coccafidlia" (Ital)) Alpine actually going to come on here and explain his bizarre "bogey team" comments, or sheepishly melt away into the background?
Aardvark Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 er...... it's like.... Oldham related - not United. The clue is in the title?
Thedelldays Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 people say the FA cup is not a distraction.. just look at the interest in the man yoo thread to this...
merrimd Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 The formation we played yesterday worked quite well, i'd prefer us to try a 4-3-3 formation such as: ------------------------DAVIS------------------------- RICHARDSON------FONTE------SEABORNE------DICKSON -----CHAMBERLAIN-----MORGAN-----PUNCHEON-------- ---------BARNARD-------GULY---------LALLANA-------- Subs: Bart, Butterfield, Harding, Jaidi, Chaplow, Gobern, Lambert Too many changes! Lambert, on the strength of his last 4 or 5 games, HAS to start. Chaplow needs to be there as well. Swap Chambo with Punch if needs be by all means, Chaplow in for Hammond and keep Lambert and Guly. This squad is really very, very good, but lets not make too many changes for the sake of Oldham FC.
Saintandy666 Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 people say the FA cup is not a distraction.. just look at the interest in the man yoo thread to this... The players will be more professional.
merrimd Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 people say the FA cup is not a distraction.. just look at the interest in the man yoo thread to this... Yes, we fans are certainly more interested in the ManUre thread this evening, only to be expected, but please, lets not get confused with the interest of the VERY professionally prepared team.
derry Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 If the pitch is bad up the middle we need to play up the touchlines with Lallana/Chamberlain/Puncheon wide. A narrow formation will be more of last season blaming the pitch. Get it out wide onto the best bits and forget about trying to play through the mud.
Whitey Grandad Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 people say the FA cup is not a distraction.. just look at the interest in the man yoo thread to this... Distracting to the fans and distracting to the club are not necessarily the same thing.
trousers Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Distracting to the fans and distracting to the club are not necessarily the same thing. Indeed. Not necessarily....
alpine_saint Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 I think Alpine is going back a few more years than that Andy Ritchie and Paul Warhurst spring to mind.... Indeed. And the fact that our promotion campaign finally formally failed last season with a goaless draw against them at SMS. And people accuse me of not knowing what I am talking about... I am laughing at the "slag Alpine off for his lack of knowledge" bandwagon on here....

A bogey team would surely be with this current squad? I'm sure Lambert, Lallana, etc aren't affected by what happened in early premier leauge years. The fact is the last time we played them at home we beat them, the last time we played them at Boundary Park we beat them. You said our Bogey team, like we only have one as well.

NickG Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Why? So you can gloat if we lose? sounds that way
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 Looking forward to Tuesday. Oldham are going well so I can't see them playing too defensively at home. May be a few awkward moments but in an open game I'd fancy us to score one more than them. Not entirely sure what formation / system Adkins will go but the good news is that we appear to be adapating to several with success so no reason to be downbeat about this game at all.
NickG Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 players playing for their place against Man U now Jaidi or Seaborne? Chaplow or Morgan or Hammond? Dickson or Harding etc Few players there will be desperate to play and need to earn it!
John Boy Saint Posted 9 January, 2011 Posted 9 January, 2011 (edited) Oldham are not too far behind us, so that would be a sign that they are playing football which will suit us. Dark Munster Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Let's reclaim that second place spot that's rightfully ours boys. I thought first place was rightfully ours?
alpine_saint Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 sounds that way How about a football-related post ?
alpine_saint Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Why? So you can gloat if we lose? So I get attacked for expressing my opinion and attacked if I then dare to point out I was correct and that the original attack was unfair. Superb. Completely mental Maybe some of you shouldnt jump down dissenters throats so much in the first place.

If/when we win tomorrow there will be plenty of people doing what they're baiting you to do, but in reverse...i.e. "so, cup games affect our league performance then do they Alps? Lol" or words to that effect. In other words, there are "I told you so" folk on both sides of any argument.... Mark my words when, after the game tomorrow, you'll hear me say: "I told you so that there would be 'told you so' people out there" ;-)

Danish Saint Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Seeing that Oldham are bit of a thuggish team, I would go with: Davis Richardson Fonte Seaborne Harding Puncheon Hammond Chaplow Lallana Lambert Barnard with subs: Bart Butterfield Jaidi Dickson Morgan Chamberlain Guly Every game is a massive one now. There are no easy games from here on in. Every team will just have to look at the table, to know Saints is no easy fixture.

But Alps, it's the fact that you are so consistently negative that puts peoples backs up and that is why they bite. Don't get me wrong, I do understand where you are coming from. After all the last few years of pain and disappointment you always fear the worst and therefore don't want to build your hopes up. I often do the same but I keep those negative thoughts to myself and certainly don't post them on this forum.

I am currently being taken the p*ss out of about my comments from the first day of the Brisbane Ashes test. Yet after England fought back in that test I then expressed the opinion that I thought it would be good for their confidence and expected them to convincingly win the Ashes on the back of that. Guess what happened ? It turned out exactly as I predicted, yet which post is the one continuously referred to ? I contend the problem is as much to do with the perception of others, and what they look to respond to. When I post something postive about Saints, it doesnt draw the attention because it aint controversial. Other people's problem, not mine.
Bailey Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Based on the team fielded against Blackpool, I'm expecting us to start with . . . -------------------- Davis ----------------- Richardson ---- Fonte ---- Jaidi ---- Dickson Chamberlain -- Hammond -- Chaplow -- Lallana ------------- Lambert -- Guly -------------- Subs: Bialkowski, Seaborne, Butterfield, Puncheon, Schneiderlin, Barnard, Connolly. Schneiderlin in for Hammond if he doesn't recover from injury in time. Adkins has a bit of a selection dilemma after the peformance against Blackpool, especially with Seaborne, Puncheon and Schneiderlin all impressing.

When I post something postive about Saints, it doesnt draw the attention because it aint controversial. Other people's problem, not mine. It's human nature for people to latch onto events and quotes that satisfy their pre-conceived view of a person or organisation. Take the coalition government for example, they're doing some positive things to address the country's debts but people who have a vested interest in knocking the government 24x7 will focus on the negatives and conveniently ignore the positives. You're simple caught up in what us old fashioned people call 'human nature'...
Danish Saint Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 I find it reassuring, that no matter what XI we want to play against Oldham, I have every confidence in each and every selection. Our first XI is not a 100% certain, and the players on the bench are more than just cover. They are alternatives and competition. Something I find very healthy. We can naturally always improve and another signing this window apart from Chaplow and Guly (did we sign him?), would make this a great team for the second part of the season.

Because in a international series of matches which covers 25 days, saying England would lose 5-0 after the first day of the first match was as you would put it, err mental. I also seem to recall after our 4-1 win against Huddersfield you saying "we all know we will f*ck it up against Exeter and Dagenham & Redbridge". So the "alternative" view from you as you put it always seems to be completely and utterly negative. Anyway, back to the game, tough one, pitch is a bog apparantly and Oldham are a good side at home, i'd take a draw right now although like ever game Saints play in this league i would hope that we would have enough about us to win this one. Boycott also blogged in one of the Tests that dropping two catches was an unprofessional disaster, wouldn't have happened in his day and we had lost the Ashes in those few balls. We then proceded to bowl em out for 98, nobody remembers some of the better analysis he did during the series, just the we've blown it comment. Chillax, you have a place in history now as a co-holder of "most memorable post of all time" go with the flow, Dine out on it, enjoy the fact that it brought (and continues to bring) a smile to many people's faces

Turkish Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Probably very close but I wouldn't be surprised to see Jaidi start instead of Seaborne against a physical side. Maybe Hammond instead of Schniderlin, he played well at Dagenham and Oldhams pitch is similar, he is better suited to this than MS. Isn't it nice to have a squad strong enough we have options all over the place.
Neil Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 It sounds like a Jaidi sort of game if they're physical up front and with another crappy pitch to play on. Hoof it clear without too much fancy stuff! If we can win this game it will really increase the belief in automatic promotion.
shurlock Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 From NA's comments on Saturday, Hammond is touch-and-go with an injury. If so will be sorely missed as this is a Hammond type of game.
ottery st mary Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Predicting Saints 3-1 but seriously considering to change this to Saints 3-0.. I was indecisive once but now just a little unsure......Soddd it Saints 5-0.. COYS
martyg1950 Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Just to add to the pitch concerns 'OOOp North' we have rain today / tomorrow. It will be a bit of a bog. 0-2 Saints, both goals 2nd 1/2
doddisalegend Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 After the last few weeks I have a new found optimism about saints. The first half of the season was poor for me but since Brentford we've played really well goals are coming and we now look like the team that finished last season. Nothing less than champions for me now. As long as we keep up the performance levels of the last couple of weeks I can't see Oldham getting much change from us 0-3 the saints.
JibMcdo Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Looking at the Oldham OS, it says last game that they play a 4-4-1-1 formation, so I expect we might play three in the middle: -----------------Davis Butterfield--Jaidi---Fonte---Harding --------Hammond--Morgan ---------------Chaplow Chambo---------------------Lallana ---------------Lambert Bart, Seaborne, Richardson, Dickson, Puncheon, Guly, Barnard If Hammonds unfit then I guess we'll change our style of play and play Guly.
hypochondriac Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Can't leave Guly out he is on fire at the moment.
