dubai_phil Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 I hope the team doesn't go into the game on this fourm's wave of easy easy we're playing well. At Daggers we had to battle hard to get the chance to play our football (to steal a Whipering Daveism), and we will certainly have to do it again up there against a team that wil be motivated to take the big scalp and push on their own climb up the league. Battle first, then play football to win second and we'll be fine There, think that gets enough cliches in the the thread to counter OSM's indecisiveness
Turkish Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Lets not be overconfident, Oldham are very good at home. Anyone expecting us to go there and win them easily is going to be in for a shock. Games like this are a battle and any over confidence will be knocked out of us. I hope we win and man for man we should do but given they have only lost once at home all season i would take a draw.
LGTL Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Just decided to go to this one with a mate, looking forward to it.
Bucks Saint Posted 10 January, 2011 Author Posted 10 January, 2011 Just decided to go to this one with a mate, looking forward to it. Top man!
holepuncture Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Massive game, need to take 2nd back from the Cherries. Good luck Saints and all travelling Saints. http://www.teamtalk.com/match/preview/978/6648845/Oldham-v-Southampton-preview http://www.oldhamathletic.co.uk/page/NewsUpdate/0,,10337~2262871,00.html D- ickov wants to play a game of footy, good for him (though he will regret no parking the bus and hoofing!) http://www.footymad.net/storytext.asp?article=3559627 Nice to hear we have a fully fit squad, bar resident sick note Holmes!
JRM Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Just decided to go to this one with a mate, looking forward to it. Good stuff, i reckon our support up there will be about 350 - 450, Oldham only had 3573 (inc 281 swindon) on saturday against Swindon, so probably wont be much atmosphere at this one. Got a feeling we will lose, nothing to do with having played in the cup on saturday or having United as a distraction, more due to this is exactly the sort of game we tend to slip up on and the players will have to be up to the fight, even at 2-0 at Dagenham we came close to throwing it away.
Griffo Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Is anyone driving up from London way? NEED a lift!
Andyb1 Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Didn't realise they had Trottman playing for them.. Amos is a good keeper too.
eelpie Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Looking at the Oldham OS, it says last game that they play a 4-4-1-1 formation, so I expect we might play three in the middle: -----------------Davis Butterfield--Jaidi---Fonte---Harding --------Hammond--Morgan ---------------Chaplow Chambo---------------------Lallana ---------------Lambert Bart, Seaborne, Richardson, Dickson, Puncheon, Guly, Barnard If Hammonds unfit then I guess we'll change our style of play and play Guly. Two things... Ricky doesn't seem to lead from the front these days and is usually seen doing a useful team job behind a forward striker, hence he is not so often in a good position for opportunistic goals. Guly does that job now and can't be left out.. And so the person to leave on the bench has to be Hammond, who limped off injured on Saturday.
Avenue Saint Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 -----------------------Davis-------------------- Richardson--Fonte--Jaidhi---Dickson Lallana --Morgan--Chappers---Punch ----------------------Guly --------------------Lambert------------- Subs: Bart, Seaborne, Harding,Hammond, Oxo, Connolly, Barnard

NO game from now on in should be taken for granted and (as you say) we need to win the battle first !
Sour Mash Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 -----------------------Davis-------------------- Richardson--Fonte--Jaidhi---Dickson Lallana --Morgan--Chappers---Punch ----------------------Guly --------------------Lambert------------- Subs: Bart, Seaborne, Harding,Hammond, Oxo, Connolly, Barnard Far too slow a side going forward in my opinion.
Matthew Le God Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 Far too slow a side going forward in my opinion. Lallana, Puncheon and Guly may not be the fastest, but are certainly not slow by any means.
pedg Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 (edited) ... Edited 10 January, 2011 by pedg stupid
corsacar saint Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 We struggled to beat them here, that should be a big enough reason not to take them too lightly.

dannysfc Posted 10 January, 2011 Posted 10 January, 2011 I'l be there tomorrow night and will be my 2nd time there as the last time I was there was last season when we won 3-0/3-1 and Lambert had that outrageous effort that hit the bar and was a Good Win there last time too! Am going by Coach again and am Buzzing for it as I think we'l either sneak a 2-1 win or I'd take a draw at least but we will see ! See you all up there for whoever's going! Also are we in Red & White or Black tomorrow just so I know what kit to wear tomorrow?! Thanks! COYR !!

Check the preview on the OS when it goes up in the morning and it'll tell you. Hope you're right about the result!

Regardless of what kit we are wearing I recommend you wear a coat as its always freezing at oldham!! I plan to have a few of their balti pies to keep warm, hopefully celebrating a few saints goals will help as well.
Liquidshokk Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 I'm a little bit worried about this one. They will be harder to beat than Dagenham. Me too. Bubble has to burst sometime and it usually does.
Saints67 Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Oldham Weather watch: Tuesday night Becoming cloudy and breezy with outbreaks of rain spreading from the west. These initially light but becoming heavier and more persistent later. Also a risk of hill snow at first. Also mentions possibility of fog from 9pm onwards.
yorkie Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Wrap up warm folks - see you over there in a pub near the ground. Went there last season and had a couple. It would be a shame to break the habit of a lifetime!!
Saint-scooby Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Its going to be a hard match. we are on a good roll now, so not do what Saints are best at doing !!!
PaulGilchrist_76 Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 This is exactly the type of match we normally lose. Come on Saints, start grinding out those all important 1-0 away wins!
trousers Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 I hate to say it but given that probabilty and logic dictate that any side in this division is unlikely to go unbeaten away from home during the second half of the season I see this game as one of a few that is 'lose-able'. Therefore, I'm gonna predict a 2-1 defeat on the basis that it's better to get our 'inevitable' away defeat out of the way now than later in the season. And if anyone understands that logic then please can they explain it to me first! :-)
trousers Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 I'm a little bit worried about this one. They will be harder to beat than Dagenham. In my opinion, we allowed dagenham to get back in the game as a result of losing momentum when we started to make substitutions in the final quarter of the game. As such, If we are, say, 1 nil up tonight with 20 minutes to go and still playing well I would be happier for Nigel to refrain from making subs until absolutely necessary. I doubt that will happen though as most managers these days seem to instinctively default to making subs on and around the 60 - 70 minute mark almost because they can rather than because they need to. IMHO of course....
Bucks Saint Posted 11 January, 2011 Author Posted 11 January, 2011 Pub choice anyone? Some years since I was last there and it was not a match involving Saints!
MongoNeil Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Anyone know how many we've sold and if tickets are available on the gate?
Jimbo Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 I'm up for this one...admittedly it's only 20mins away for me. Bringing the missus to her first Saints game too...hope it's a belter. not been for yet this season, any new songs I should know about ?
Tokyo-Saint Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 We have now started singing ‘Play up Pompey’. If you want to make a big impression just start this chant at the top of you voice. The Mrs. Will love the reaction…honest
buctootim Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 I'd be happy with a draw tonight. Oldham are a good team, up near the top on merit and playing at home.
Jimbo Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Ticket office said they're available on the door...she did question my Saints origins with my Manc accent, which was quite funny !

Charlie Wayman Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Oldham are a very good side and the best by miles to visit us this season as our hard won 2-1 victory attests. They have matched us all the way and in fact have a better record having lost only 5. They are my tip for the Title. I am not suggesting they are unstoppable but at home to a Saints side that doesn't travel all that well? I don't think they'll be troubled overmuch tonight and will win 2-0. I hope and pray to be wrong but can't see it frankly. Sorry lads but we are not yet unbeatable as we seemed to be at times late last year.
saintmatt Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 this game is MASSIVE; we've GOT to keep this run going!!

SaintBobby Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 I'm full of confidence about L1 games now - go into every match genuinely expecting us to win. But this is one of the trickier ties. I think we probably need 2 points a game to get promoted automatically, maybe a shade more to be champions. So, that's something like W 14 D 6 L 4 for the rest of the season. Would be great to keep this one out of the "L" pile.
yorkie Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Pub choice anyone? Some years since I was last there and it was not a match involving Saints! I believe The White Hart on Oldham Road is the favoured watering hole for home and away fans!
Justin C Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Umm I don't think tonight will be that easy, they have a good record at home. I hope we don't get over confident!
Ashley Grute Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Anyone know if Punch has travelled with the squad?
SuperMikey Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 2-1 to Saints. Barnard 14 Puncheon 67 Seaborne OG 49
Liquidshokk Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 I think what ever happens tonight we should remain upbeat after a great christmas and new year period. Wont be easy if we lose tonight but I'll come back and read my comment if I'm sulking should it happen :-D
Liquidshokk Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 We havent drawn a game in a while. Think tonight may be the night. 1-1
saintpat Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 A draw would be a decent result tonight but we have set a standard way above decent in the last few games, let's hope that continues.
jasonb Posted 11 January, 2011 Posted 11 January, 2011 Ticket office said they're available on the door...she did question my Saints origins with my Manc accent, which was quite funny ! I'm only 20 minutes away too although without the Manc accent Wrap up warm - I went for a run at lunchtime and it was freeeeezing up here.
