Yep, two midfielders not available and we have no decent subs for them.

No depth.

Have you seen Butterfield, Dickson and Gobern play in midfield then?

Dickson was excellent in midfield at the weekend. Butterfield has played a lot of CCC football in midfield

Gobern came on at 4-0 up. It really f*cked us up, because we only scored 2 more after that. If only Adkins would listen to alpine and we could have won 8-0.:x

I am writing this before the Oldham game but I think the main area we need to strengthen is not signing new players but making the ones we have more ruthless, especially away from home.

Duncan

I had a word with the team before kick off.:D

I told them in no uncertain terms.....;)

Fitzhugh Fella.. wants RUTHLESS...any chance boyzz?

TBF, i do agree, there is a bit of a gulf between our 3rd and 4th choice CM.

But then you analyse that situation, if we had 4 midfielders easily capable of getting into the majority of squads in the league then atleast 1 will be off.

F**k me, is this a court case or something ?

1) Answered

2) Someone for injured Connolly, someone for Puncheon if he goes since so many on here think AOC cant do the whole season, and another CB would leave me feeling warm inside.

3) Inconsistency (so what if we have a purple patch right now ? We have 20+ games to go) and injury.

I repeat: NC wants promotion nailed-on this season.

without Puncheon and Connolly you are hard pushed to find a player who is going to score for us

Nick, now, i don't want to spoil your pick on alpine party (as much as i think he is a negative tw*t at times), but if we lose Puncheon and Connolly (who is done IMO) we will need replacements. Especially out wide.

Well, it looks like the team read this forum ;)

On attackers, I'm not sure whether we need to bring in another striker once Connolly goes, I think in our youth we have enough decent strikers to bring through. I'd be happy in this window now if we just signed Guly. If we loose Guly we need to look at getting someone else in.

Who from the youth team? I don't think we have enough strikers if Connolly is permanently crocked. Doubly true if Puncheon goes, as he can play as a makeshift striker.

I don't think it would disrupt team balance to bring in a 4th choice centre forward.

NickG's premise that this squad is good enough and we dont need no-one else was heavily and smugly based on the premise that Puncheon is back for good in some p*ss-poor Take That parody.

His absence last night now calls this into question. Also, does anyone know how bad Hammond's injury is ? I also think Connolly will struggle to get through a whole 90 mins ever again.

It is NOT clear cut that this squad is good enough for promotion. NA and NC would be negligent in their duties if there are not on the look out in this window.

Punch was ill.

The squad we have, on paper is good enough for promotion but yes we still need cover in one or two areas

Ottery. good to see the team respond to your pep talk!

Tbh this sort of result was bound to happen sooner or later, just surprised it came on the road. Good to see us take our chances, more of the same for the rest of the season.

History was made too. First time ever 6 different scorers away from home!

History for Saints, or history for English football in general ?

Who from the youth team?

Welsh international Doble?

And I'm sure if we'd asked the same question this time last year and someone came back with the answer: "Chamberlain" we'd have been underwhelmed about that too...

I assume for Saints.

But - only counting league games - may be first time ever in English football ?

(Obviously there are a few extreme c. 14-0 cup results).

Can anyone find a counter example?

Bale was an established first teamer before he got his international call up from Wales from memory. Think that is positive sign for both Doble and the strength of our current squad.

They are FFS!

And no, a team that wins 4 league games in a row, two of those against of our promotion rivals, one of which had the second best home record in the league and scoring 17 and conceding two on the way is clearly not good enough for promtion.

There are ......23 games to go.

We will get.....injuries.

When will YOU understand, Adkins record, P20, W14, Drew 3 Lost 3, Leagues games points amassed 38 over 17 games, over a season 102 points, and all with this "weak" squad that have had injuries already. If only we had more cover.

There is only one person i have ever come across on any forum or in realy life that after winning 6-0 away from home against a promotion rival with one of the best home record in the league, coudl STILL find things to moan about.

According to law of averages, I agree.

Me (and I hope NA and NC too), I dont want us relying on that. If we have the money and can identify the targets, I see nothing wrong with taking our destiny in our own hands.

Yeah, lets get arrogant and complaicent instead. Much better plan

New signings guarentee nothing. No one is saying a couple wouldn't hurt. GIven the last 20 games and we have had injuries, suspensions etc provided no one leaves then the fact that we have won nearly 3/4s of our last 20 games shows this current squad IS CLEARLY good enough for promtion. Yes or No?

Posted
Then why are you so outraged and abusive when I dare to mention it ?

And you accuse me of only reading what i want to read!!! Your ability to read seems to be lacking, see the posts above, i've said a couple wont hurt and even suggested players & positions, something you appear unable to do, which is what i am "outraged" about. You say "we need to strengthen" but cant say where, why or with who. There is a difference between needing and wanting. Now stop picking bit from sentances and answer my question. Given the FACT that we have won 70% of our matches since Adkins took over, is this current squad good enough for promotion, yes or no?

Posted

Or alternatively we could simply be confident, both as a team and a fanbase, the team seem to have got the balance right and playing with confidence but not arrogance, oh you wouldn't know would you, no one has posted it on here yet.

I've said where and why. I leave the "who" to NA, but seeing as he has made "substantial bids", he has it under control, I hope.

Now give it a rest. I dont claim to know what is driving your obsession with my opinion, but I assume the goal is to bully me into saying you are right. Never going to happen.

Oh, and the answer is the first XI is good enough. The squad isnt. Or maybe with your better than everyone else all-encompassing view of everything SFC, you failed to notice how weak the bench was last night.

Ditto you with my opinon. Okay then, so the squad which has won 70% of its last 20 games and would have 102 points if this was over the course of a season isn't good enough for promotion. I'll leave it there, thank you and good day.

Leave the salad dodger alone, people. He's homesick and slowly, reluctantly going native...

As I posted earlier:

2.Last of the Scummer Whine

Usually post in negative terms about anything related to the club, city or the country. In the early stages of going native, so not reached that grumpy charm that Compo has. More the expression that the club, city or country they left behind didn't quite fit their ideals, those that served them so badly when they lived here. Zero entertainment value in their posts at the moment and the only relevance to the fan of today is the possiblity that more impressionable section of our fanbase may detect a slight lowering of their moral, when reading them. I think of Lord Haw Haw when reading the uninformed dirge they post. He was hanged for treason, but I think the penalty for them, when Saints are back in the premiership will be the sight of their gradual decline into a sad exile, never quite belonging to their new country and unable to return to God's country to see their team play...
