doddisalegend Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 Was I the only one to think that lallana's finishing was poor today? He had 5 attempts in first half and hit the target once. Worked his socks off and is class but his finishing was poor today and tbh its the one area he can improve. Thought morgan was superb and lambert was great but will he needs to finish better as he usually does Well he got his four and half year deal he can stop trying now......................... hamster Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 Great Result but I have a feeling losing might have been better for us in the long run regarding the league postion. I see Stubborn Bournemouth won again today putting us down to 3rd. I hope Eddie Howe takes the Palace job soon Still nice to see us win again! Go and sit in the corner next to delldays. Eastcowzer Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 Anyone know why the referee was changed. According to the programme, and a couple of daily newspapers, the ref' was to have been Martin Atkinson, (he of 20 games, 8 red, and 75 yellow, cards). However, according to the match report on the OS, the ref' was a Mr D. McDermidd. Obviously another well known nonentity.

You hadnt even given him a chance and it was based on a feeling you had. It was almost Alpine like ( see his Ashes thread on the first day). For what its worth I am still a bit concerned by Adkins, the Brentford game where he sat on his hands for 81 minutes has me wondering. A few other dodgy team tactics in games also - mainly away games. Those are based on his performances not on you being disappointed with his appointment. Adkins has done well for us so far but as you think anyone can manage the team and get us promoted we wont know till the end of season and if he fails then you can delight in saying "I told you so". Adkins has done well for us so far but as you think anyone can manage the team and get us promoted we wont know till the end of season and if he fails then you can delight in saying "I told you so". Uhm... Sure there WILL be time when Adkins get its wrong or struggles with the tactical changes necessary - every manager does even Wenger, and SAFand we have one who is still learning! But thats the beauty of it as far as I am concerned. For too long we have expected the best manager in the world who never gets it wrong and always picks the the same team as we would... what we have now is a talented, smart up and coming who can learn as we progress, witha superb set up and who genuinely seems to 'get' the program that NC is delivering. Why is it that our expectations are often fuelled with the legacy of arrogance of the 27 years? We need to move on and accept we are were we are, but with the potential to progress rapidly - we have a fantastic infrastructure, a chairman who despite what some think, has seriously got it upstairs with the strength of character to avoid populist pandering for short term acceptance, add a manger who is obviously young and inexperienced b but getting better every game and a squad that is currently harmonious and arguably the best in this division... oh and major investment in the academy so that we continue to produce good talent.... er so not exactly sure what else teh club or Adkins needs to do to convince everyone? As to the cup runs interfering with promotion hoopes... well we have seen 8 changes today... something we did not see last season, even in the paint cup... so I dont think Nige will fall into the same trap. ENJOY the good times!

Adkins as I said has done well so far and I really hope we can continue our recent run especially getting a win at Oldham. I want out of this division ASAP and think Adkins can do that. Yes because they are based on what I witnessed not what you had a feeling about. Please tell me what was wrong about the early part of his tenure - certainly wasnt result wise - especially compared to Wilkins! revolution saint Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 Adkins is definitely doing something right. I heard yesterday that the club is a really happy place to be now. Which is for me a really important issue. Absolutely. Players that play with a smile on their faces win tackles and they score goals. Teams that play with a collective smile on their face win games of football. Teams that all eat processed potato smiles will win even more games. Let's not forget it's a battle out there though - we have to fight for our right to smile. Sometimes we'll need to use squad players but it's a squad game and if those squad players keep smiling then we'll keep winning. To all the doubters out there (You know who you are!) I don't care if our manager looks like an out of work kids party clown with a coat hanger rammed in his mouth - he's getting results.

Sometimes on here it seems people aren't sure about Davies or Bart. Did he do enough to get a league game, or do you think he will he just get the cup for the duration of this season? Kelvin D is great shot stopper but does not always dominate his box on crosses and kicking can be wayward. From what I saw of Bart today he is no better at dominating the box on crosses and his kicking was a little wayward. From memory he made one good save from long range Matt Phillips shot but did not have to make any other decent save. I would stick with Kelvin. Clifford Nelson Posted 9 January, 2011 Share Posted 9 January, 2011 I have kept asking myself if I've ever seen the team play better than it did yesterday, and I'm struggling to think of any occasion in a very long time. Taking into consideration the changes made it makes it even better. I was thoroughly entertained, and I loved to see us play football the way it should be played. The 4-3-1-2 formation which NA sent out was tailor made, not only for playing Blackpool, but also for providing a space for an offensive CM. Maybe this is where Lallana will eventually play, he did very well, or, which is my preference, Guly. From there he can keep the attacking part of the team served with balls and ideas. It was another way of keeping all our striking options involved. Puncheon looked more positive than I have ever seen him, but did I see him pass the ball to the opposition a few times? Yes. Did he present an end product repeatedly? No. The MOM in my opinion was without a doubt Schneiderlin. I thought he had a stormer.

Which is for me a really important issue. And it shows, Dave. It seems like the enthusiasm has released the ability as well. This is really starting to look as the football which I enjoy to watch, and nice to see a break from 4-4-2. Clearly the change was designed to counter Blackpools preferred formation, but it also made us less predictable, and therefore our runners weren't picked up. I wonder for how much longer 4-4-2 will be our preferred formation when we don't have to consider the opposition.

ottery st mary Posted 10 January, 2011 Share Posted 10 January, 2011 Got back to Devon after a great weekend......Thank you Saints.. Regardless of how Holloway behaved leading up to the game....He knows full well his team was second best and that we have a stronger squad and many more quality players...even counting a few of his missing first teamers. We are a far better squad than given credit for......even I am pleasantly surprised..Well done NC and particularly NA. AND Pards... On the day I had a good afternoon in the Northam....New location for me..Very interesting at times...but good fun.. Team wise..I commend the whole side and subs..well played one and all. Special mention.....Spiderman..great game and once again ever improving..The class is there and now much more effort and determination.. Puncheon....Always a quality player who gave everything as always....Need him in the team and down to NA..formation and tactics.. Seaborne and Martin......Given a chance and both played very well apart from the odd hiccup...but the future is bright there in centre back position......Each can play with Fonte and we can still get the best out of Jaidi for the rest of the season. Adam Lallana..What a star and also ran his heart out for the side. Great deal as stated like abig star signing.. When Dickson came on..his speed, determination and attitude really impressed me and I see him more of a midfield player as cover for full back Harding but maybe on some sort of rotation..I can only see him improving and giving so much to the side...as a midfielder . Barnard, Lambert and Guly.....once again ..good choices to have for the rest of the season....Also knowing on some formations you can now choose..Lallana, Guly or even Chaplow to play in the hole behind the two strikers. Hammond injured may well mean Chaplow and Spiderman in the middle. for Oldham...but we must have Puncheon there to help Lallana to un lock these tight defences..with Dickson being a secret weapon with his speed and directness when required.. Things are starting to fall into place... Let us beat Oldham and Notts County and the league will be ours for the taking.. COYS
