doddisalegend Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 This was the best match of the season for me so far, every player in the white and red seemed to play his guts out today. Totally outplayed a PL (reserve) team today. Morgan was my MOM he was amazing today. The Northam were well up for it and had a good banter going the the blackpool fans. This is what the FA cup is all about and why I love it. Oh Barney's goal was great he was really calm and composed under pressure to place his shot, Guly's wasn't to shabby either. Chez Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 Bit hacked off with Stevenage going and stealing all the glory, never even got a name check on Sky News Sports Round Up. Holloway ruined any chance of that when he advertised he was throwing in the towel earlier in the week. Even without the Stevenage win we were still not getting the plaudits on the radio on the way home.

SuperMikey Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 Excellent performance today, with 8 changes I was expecting a bit of a jarring, slow game, but the team gelled really well and passed the ball superbly. Blackpool were a decent side, most of those players have featured at some point during their Prem season, so it was good to win so convincingly. Glad we let The Mule go, he was awful today! Great to see Ormerod back as well, although I was disappointed not to hear the 'Posh Spice is a slapper...' echoing round the Northam! Also, Matt Phillips was quality for them today, gutted that we didn't get there first as Lallana/Chamberlain/Phillips/Puncheon would be a fantastic selection of wingers! Bialkowski 7 - Very solid, good in the air and made a quality save from Phillips which saved our skins a bit. Would still prefer to see Davis as our regular #1 but good to have the peace of mind of having Bart as back-up. Richardson 7 - Attacked well down the flanks, overlapped and put in some decent crosses (and some bad ones). Made some very good sliding challenges at the other end. Better than Butterfield imo. Harding 6 - Did okay but got caught out at times, looked good going forward though. Think i'd prefer to see Dickson at LB now, is Harding still out of contract at the end of the season? Seaborne 7 - Very solid, his passing was a lot better today although still not that great! I'm still in two minds about him, he can be very dependable but also very dodgy. Good performance today though. Martin 7 - Wasn't on the ball that much, but when he was needed he was there and did well. Shame he's not in the first team more because he looks very solid, but he's behind Fonte and Seaborne at the moment. Puncheon 8 - One of his better games, he's obviously in form at the moment. I'd like to keep him here if he sorts his attitude out, because at times he looks like he doesn't give a f*ck. Lallana 9 - Quality performance, the hallmark of a fantastic player. He'll be giving their full backs nightmares for a few months yet. So glad he's signed a lengthy contract, hope he'll be with us for years to come! Hammond 7 - Marshalled in the midfield, I hope his injury isn't serious, it'll give us problems having first-teamers injured now. Schneiderlin 8.5 - Excellent performance, solid defensively and made some very good passes. Think he proved a few doubters wrong today, i'd prefer him over Hammond alongside Chaplow in the team. Lambert 8 - Unlucky not to score when he hit the crossbar, but his link-up play was vital to how we attacked today. Back on form! Barnard 7 - Didn't look match fit, but still ran himself into the ground for the team as per usual. Took his goal well and i'm looking forward to seeing him back in the team. Honourable mentions to the subs as well, Guly took his goal very well, Dickson looked very dangerous and Chambo was unlucky not to score when he hit the post. Onwards and upwards! Very little incentive for Blackpool fans to make the journey when they have games like Liverpool coming up. If I was one of them I'd be a little ****ed off with the performance that their club offered today. We were significantly better than them but they were poor. I think it actually sums up the difference between the likes of Arsenal, Manchester Utd. and Chelsea playing weakened teams in the cups - the big clubs have the players to do it and can use these games to blood their young prospects whilst still providing a competitive match - Blackpool cant. Tamesaint Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 Even without the Stevenage win we were still not getting the plaudits on the radio on the way home. The same thing happened last year when we knocked Ipswich out. We never got a mention when cup upsets were mentioned on the radio. In some strange way it is perhaps a bit of a compliment to us. We are still regarded as a bit of a big fish so the fact that we have beaten Blackpool does not register as a giant killing in the same was as another League 1 side beating a Premiership side does - such as Notts County beating Sunderland. I am not under any illusion - we are a League 1 side because that is where we deserve to be. However the instant reaction of your average football fan would be that of course Southampton should beat Blackpool.

As if he's never heard football chants before, lol. But to be fair Holloway made some very complimentary comments about Saints, so I (slightly) forgive him his frustrated outburst. ""I hope Southampton get back there one day but you have to earn that right. They have the right manager in charge and I hope they have great success..." Holloway was gracious in defeat while paying tribute to his makeshift line-up with half the youth team making up the bench. (Holloway did admit that Saints made changes too). "They have good players, exciting players. It was a great game of football and they deserved it on the day. Their second goal was worthy of winning any game. I know I shouldn't but I applauded it." But how satisfying to put one over the loudmouth. He was saving his main squad for Blackpool v Liverpool in the EPL. Coward. Bring on Liverpool in the next round. WE'RE not afraid of them! I agree that today he was better than against Exeter but he had some really, really good moments against Huddersfield (along with several others on the team), it feels like the real Morgan is back. Hopefully he will sort his shooting boots out as this is something that I feel he really needs. Agree also about teams not being able to cope with our midfield but to borrow a phrase from the Adkinsonary - and what about Jason Puncheon, to come back into the side and put in a performance like that? georgeismyname Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 Brilliant performance. One of the best i've seen in a long time. Bialkowski - 8 - One fantastic save and looked very solid otherwise. Some sliced kicked second half but we're used to that with our keepers Harding - 7 - His usual solid self, getting forward when he could. Seaborne - 8 - Has definitely improved over the time he has been at the club and seems more keen to pass to feet now rather than hoofing. Good performance. Martin - 7 - Solid enough in the air but lucky to get away with a couple of mis-controls and a dodgy backpass. Hope he gets more 1st team experience. Richardson - 8 - Put in some fantastic tackles and made some good passes and crosses. First choice right-back in my opinion. Lallana - 8 - His usual entertaining, skilful self. Very happy he has signed a new contract. Hammond - 8 - Won the ball back brilliantly throughout the game, worked hard and distributed well. Schneiderlin - 10 - Fantastic. One of his best games for us. Ran the show in midfield, won tackles, pounced on every mis-control and made some super passes. MOTM Puncheon - 8 - Best game since he first joined us. Controlled well, showed some good skill and looked dangerous. Barnard - 8 - Worked hard as usual, took his goal very calmly, good to have him back to give Nige some selection dilemmas. Lambert - 9 - Looked dangerous all day, won lots of headers to set up attacks. Shame he didn't shoot from range earlier when he had the chance. Dickson - 9 - Looked fantastic when he came on. Made a super run and worked very hard to win the ball back. Guly - 9 - What a goal!!!! Goal of the round i'm sure. Chamberlain - 7 - Good pace to go through on goal but should have passed to Puncheon for a certain goal. Adkins - 9 - Tactics spot-on as well as team selection. TOP MAN! I hope he stays the spell at Millwall seems to have done him the world of good, best performance I've seen from him in a while. Blackpool probably wouldn't be a destination but there are several Championship clubs looking and after seeing Newcastle tonight it wouldn't be a surprise to see him go there, His agent would have made him aware of the importance of playing well, as he is being watched by interested parties and needs to perform if he is to persuade other than Millwall to buy him. If he wants to stay and plays like this then I'd welcome him provided he embraces the squad ethic and understands he won't start every game. Lighthouse Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 Just seen the highlights. 1. What a goal that was from Guly 2. Lambert was so unlucky not to score in the first half. His effort hit matey on the line in the side of the head and rebounded onto the bar. The defender knew nothing about it, pure luck. 3. Ian Holloway getting upset by the oldest chant in the book ("Prem, you're having a laugh"). Bad loser. 4. Can't be too harsh on Bart for that cross he didn't catch. He came out at full stretch and couldn't get there. It was a feckin' good cross.

s0108787 Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 What a great result. We were up for it from the start. Everyone worked for each other. We were narrow giving Blackpool plenty of width but we dealt with that threat. Young centre back combination of Seaborne & Martin was a delight. I have been a big critic of Schneiderlin - He was majestic today. Best game of the season Likewise of Puncheon - Credit to him he worked hard in the centre of midfield, clearly his best position. If that is what we are going to get I have changed my mind. Keep him Well done to the whole squad and the Manager. I came away from the ground buzzing Bang on, completely ran the show today.
