Brilliant result. Even though they fielded a weakened team it's got to be a great confidence booster for the lads.

So dune, Chamberlain came on on 84 minutes.

Care to retract your statement that we will never see him in a saints shirt again?

Can it get any better - only downside was a knock to Lallana, but he seemed to run it off.

Lost 2nd place to Cherries for a few days...Oldham here we come!

Good win, keeping confidence up while resting some players is good news for us.

A good win but far from an 'upset' going on the teams that played, happy all the same though.

Quite fancy a big team away next, weve had a lot of home draws in the FA Cup recently.

Comfortable afternoons work for the saints, rested some key players like Fonte, oxo and Guly. Hopefully meaning we can go back to second on tuesday.

Great result :D

We've gone further than Pompey this year, playing against a higher ranked team than they have.

Starts to put last year's result to rest...

That was a pleasure to listen to, and by the sounds of things, should be a pleasure to watch highlights of later!

Nice one Saints.

I don't care if it's not blackpools first team, their reserves should still be prem quality! We ripped them a new one!!! Great game and can't wait to see Gulys goal again!

Stand out players;

Adam - was absolutely in awe of his skill watching him today as usual

Puncheon - if we let him go it will be a crime! Had a great game.

Schneiderlin - best I've seen him play, refreshing as not normally all that impressed

Worth pointing out Graham Murty's comments on Radio 5Live Xtra... he was very keen to point that we got our tactics spot on, that we stifled Blackpool by putting pressure on their back four with Lallana in the hole behind Lambert and Barnard to give them no time to play their passing game. Credit to NA for that, because in general terms we've never been the best at adapting our tactics from our regular formation but it seems today everything came together.

Back in the UK and saw three matches Huddersfield, Exeter and Blackpool today!

We seem to be playing good exciting football and going from strength to strength! not sure what everyone was on about for the early part of the season when I was in Dubai!

And the excellent start to 2011 continues.

3 Saints wins; 3 Poopy losses

What an wonderful feeling to be able to replace the MoM, the amazing Lallana, with someone like Guly who then scores a cracking goal.

I hope the press realise that we made only 1 fewer change than the 'pool.

I want another home tie next round, and don't really care who against (although the winner of ManUre/Scousers would be nice).

Dont forget, we made 7 changes. Think Adkins won the tactical battle, hands down. Man U next, and let them wear what ever shirts they want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 Changes at the back for Saints. AOC on the bench, Hardly our 1st choice. Why do we have so many negative mongs!!! COYR

It's not that amazing. It's blackpool reserves.

I know there are a few people who still aren't sure about Adkins, but I think he's doing a fantastic job at the moment, and is the man to get us promoted. If we really have Puncheon back full time, it seems that has saved us money on a new signing. One new striker IMO and we're golden.

Great result today, The Martin/Seaborne combo at the back worried me briefly, but it seems they both had good games.

Back to concentrating on the League.

Next round? Man Utd away. It'll put us out but with the chance to go down fighting.

Exactly, we don't rip league one sides apart like that let alone prem sides, reserves or no reserves.

Just seen the BBC stats; Saints 23 shots (14 on target), Blackpool 8 shots (3 on target). And Saints had 11 corners, compared to 4 for the visitors.

Nice.

Great Result but I have a feeling losing might have been better for us in the long run regarding the league postion. I see Stubborn Bournemouth won again today putting us down to 3rd. I hope Eddie Howe takes the Palace job soon ;) Still nice to see us win again!

What a great time to be a Saint's fan! Second in the division, scoring loads of goals, Lallana signs a 4.5 year contract, and we beat a Premier team without some of our first choice players. Well done Nigel and team.

Next round. Home tie against anyone or if it's away Blackburn, Bolton, Wigan, Burnley or Everton just so I can go! Well done Saints. Now just gotta find some Blackpool fans at work as I'm sure their JCL fans will have crawled back into the woodwork again! 9 changes for them but 8 for us. Well done Guly now sign a permenant deal with us please! Thank you Adam too.

Pretty much agree with this. Saints were superb, five wouldn't have been unfair. Would be interested in what Holloway says and what the Blackpool fans thought of that.

Also, Puncheon was awesome - glad to see he proved it to a few people.... please keep!

Good result! Saints beat Premier league Blackpool (be it a reserve side or not, still Prem) Poopey lose to Brighton to confirm their position as No4 team in the south!lol And GULY has now cancelled that FERKIN TAXI!!! ;)

Hard to say if the fa cup run is a good thing or not when our primary concern is to get out of league 1.

But that one game should do wonders for the confidence and feel good factor throughout the club so can only be a good thing.

Get in!!! And Pompey lost to another south coast club to make our day even better! :)

Knocked out a PL team with a second string side, and the skates have a horrendous day. Couldn't be better

How did Aaron Martin play?

I thought both centre halves were pretty good. Liked the look of our fullbacks too.

i swear adkins has just said on the solent interview "this young lad we bought in from eastleigh making his debut today"

barking! lol

Forget Blackpool played a weakened team, this was not exactly our first team either and we are two leagues lower!

Great result and keeps the winning momentum and confidence high.

He did... I think he meant the first 90, but he's played 90 before for us, I'm sure... :-/

It's a cherries w4nkfest atm... :-/

What a great weekend. AL signs and we beat prem opposition.

Top performance and result, especially as I thought Blackpool would nick it. Well done the team.

Onwards and upwards.

Bugger. Yet another game deferred until later in the season (Charlton at home on 29th Jan).....

What a great result.

We were up for it from the start. Everyone worked for each other. We were narrow giving Blackpool plenty of width but we dealt with that threat.

Young centre back combination of Seaborne & Martin was a delight.

I have been a big critic of Schneiderlin - He was majestic today. Best game of the season

Likewise of Puncheon - Credit to him he worked hard in the centre of midfield, clearly his best position. If that is what we are going to get I have changed my mind. Keep him

Well done to the whole squad and the Manager. I came away from the ground buzzing

who next? - home of course, another Prem? or maybe Pompey - No wait! they're out ha ha ha ha ha ha! Brighton then :)

I want another prem team at home, or a nice away day at the Emirates or OT. Nice as the cup is, it's not a priority so a glamour tie would suit me.

Great performance from the team today, Puncheon is a different player to the one that left for Millwall. Couldn't quite get a handle on the formation today, strange with Barney & Lambo staying out wide for long periods. It worked though as we were utterly, utterly dominant. Guly's goal was :poundit:

Brilliant 24 hours for the club & fans. :smug:
