Crab Lungs Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 ...well, the fans have got what they want. The players too, it would appear. They've shafted Woy and he's gone, now dour Dalglish is back in charge. I can only hope they continue to stumble their way through the season, proving Hodgson was doing almost as good as anyone else could have with that p1ss poor squad of ego-centric superstars. Hopefully we could all join the Kop in a minutes silence if they go down, too... Liverpool fans = ungrateful, nasty, deluded fools.
Saint_Jonny Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 Spot on crabby. Liverpool fans need to wake up and realise that what they have is nothing special, nothing so divine. They are just another football team, one of 92. I hope they collapse and get relegated, although that is pretty unlikely.
dubai_phil Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 So the big merry-go-round begins. Where will Woy end up? WHU or Villa? Will Big Sam have to retire from punditry down here in the Sun and come back to a real job? Dalgleish hasn't managed in a decade and wasn't that successful last time he tried. Deserve what they get, but let's face it, signing Konchesky wasn't the brightest of starts

Sheaf Saint Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 I actually feel sorry for the guy. He was in an impossible situation. He was hired by the previous owners so there was always a possibility that the new team would want to bring in their own man, and he had little hope of setting the world alight with the squad he inherited from Benitez. Having said that, I do think it was a ridiculous decision to give him the job in the first place on the back of one good season at Fulham. He probably took it knowing that he would probably get sacked but that his contract would be paid up if that was the case.

Turkish Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 (edited) He was on a hiding to nothing, team massively in decline, they were poor under Benitez last season and it was always going to take a couple of season to rebuild. In my companies head office in Cheshire most are Liverpool fans and they didn't want him from the start feeling they deserve Jose Mourinho type managers. I dont know who they think is going to go there but given the state of the club and how far behind the top 5 or 6 they are now they wont be back in the top 4 for a long time, they will expect to though so the next guy will face the same challenges. Feel sorry for the guy but if its one thing managers dont get these days, especially at clubs like Liverpool when expectation is so great, is time. saint_bert Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 They keep saying on the radio the players will be right behind "king Kenny" Maybe Gerrard and Carragher will buy into KD but why would players like Merieles,Kuyt, Babel etc. Just another manager to them surely. saint_bert Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 By appointing "king Kenny" they are just carrying on with whats been holding them back for years. You allways see it, the old boys in the directors box, gazing down shaking their heads, dissaproving of what become of Liverpool. So if (and imo when) KD fails to make any difference who will they call for next? Hanson, Lawrenson, Shaun Dundee?

They are going to be in for a shock, can't see his being the messiah, poor team, been out of the game for 10 years or so and not great in his last job, he did well there 20 years ago as a manager but so did Ron Atkinson at Villa, dont see their fans demanding his return. washsaint Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 They will get what they deserve (Liverpool fans). Dalglish was the one who let the rot set in when he managed LIverpool last time (Souness took all the blame, somewhat unfairly) and also led Blackburn on the slippery slope. Hodgson was on to a loser from the start...not the big name that the arrogant Scousers believe is their right and a team in terminal decline. I would love to see Liverpool suffer this season! Smirking_Saint Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 As i have said before, unless they spend big money (the right way, not willy nilly like Rafa) they are knackered, their team is woefully disjointed and completely out of form. As for Dagliesh, we aren't talking about the old days when a club legend would come in and lift everyone, the team is primarily foreign nowadays. I also wonder how out of touch KD is these days ?? Though he did have some sort of job at Liverpool i recall. They may very well finish this season in mid table obscurity, or even worse.

alpine_saint Posted 8 January, 2011 Share Posted 8 January, 2011 I feel no pity for Liverpool or their fans whatsoever. Did they give a damn about everyone else during the 80s when they were relentlessly pummeling every other team with less than impartial refereeing ? And Dalglish aint going to work either. He's been out of management too long. We are basically watching Act II of their fall from grace unfold. Act I was the way they fell behind in the 90s. Hopefully this will end up with relegation. Liverpool need a plan for AT least 5 years, a new stadium at cheap cost, and some patient fans,......and i guess they have none of that lined up. West ham (with capacity not much less than Liverpool) yo yo'd between the top two flights. Newcastle, with much bigger gates than liverpool, been trophyless nearly fo ever, and been relegated at least twice. Sunderland been crap most of the time. Leeds, the all conquering team of my childhood, bust and in L1 Chelsea, rubbish for 30 years before they got 100s of millions to buy a team As I said above they are going to need one very good plan to get back to the top. And here are some teams with great trophy winning"History"..... Huddersfield Blackburn Poopey WBA Bury Wolves Preston Leed Don't think we will be seeing any of them in the CL very soon. Oh, and one other thing, the scrap at the bottom of the PL is going to be particularly tough this year.

Sorry, but I don't buy the argument that nobody else could have done any better with the squad they've got. Yes it's not a great squad when compared to the top five, but it's definitely better than teams like Bolton, Blackpool, Stoke and Blackburn who are all above Liverpool. They still have some very good players that most PL clubs would kill for, like Reina, Gerrard, Torres etc. He also spent over £20 million in the summer, which is more than a lot of teams currently above them. The fact is a lot of those players clearly were never good enough for a team of Liverpool's stature. I'm talking mainly about Konchesky and Poulson. You might as well have kept Insua and Aquillani, who were both better options than those two. The idea that Liverpool fans are 'deluded fools' for criticizing Hodgson is ridiculous. They've every right to expect better. As far as I'm aware none of them expected to be challenging for the title, but they should be in and around in Europa spots at the very least. Winning just one away game is not acceptable. He's set his teams out completely wrong many times, especially away from home (442 against Man City on a Monday night springs to mind). He's been an absolute disaster for them and fully deserved to go. He was the wrong man from the start and it was never going to work. Hodgson is a good manager, but some good managers aren't suited to certain clubs. He wasn't really that great at Inter (Thought Roberto Carlos wasn't good enough). And was terrible at Liverpool. Not saying Dalglish will do any better though, but they won't go down so I guess it really doesn't matter. I'd bring in Owen Coyle or Andre Villas Boas for next season. Reckon either of them would be ideal. Bringing in Damien Comolli as director of football is a very smart move though. He did great work at Arsenal, and a large portion of the Tottenham team doing so well right now were brought in by him.

I think Dalglish has proved all the Liverpool fans right who were calling for Hodgson's head. They showed against Chelsea they DO have the players. Lucas was absolutely superb.
