wild-saint Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 I just love your utter innocence of how the world operates, it is refreshing in this cynical age. How old are you? Are you seriously suggesting that AOC is not looking to move, because what he told Cortese last autumn? Even though it would be trivial for AOC to quash the rumours if he were not interested in moving? I have a bridge in London I would like to sell you..... patronising CVnt
trousers Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 Robert Mculloch was fully aware which bridge he was buying. Source?
NickG Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 Ince says he should stay with us http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/sai...eague/?ref=rss looks like more in press and realising what we have been saying on here - its not a given that he is going
Joensuu Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 Source? Are you trying to out-pedant the expert? (As the contract for purchasing London Bridge was signed by Mculloch in London Guildhall, might it be safe to assume that he would have probably ventured the extra 1/2 mile to have a look at what he was about to blow a couple of million dollars on?)
Jimmy_D Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 Source? I'm guessing he saw the episode of QI that said about it...
Jimmy_D Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 Anyway, back on topic, I still don't think he's going. I reckon the reported Man Utd interest is just so the media can talk about it in relation to the cup game, I haven't seen any quotes that actually confirm they're interested.

I reckon the reported Man Utd interest is just so the media can talk about it in relation to the cup game, I haven't seen any quotes that actually confirm they're interested. Had a look on the United official website yesterday and bizarrely they publish paper speculation stories on there. They had a small article from the sun about their supposed interest in AOC but no quotes or evidence.
derry Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 Nicola Cortese isn't going to let him go on the cheap. I suspect the Premier giants eyes are currently watering, as their usual hire purchase route isn't working, because we want cash on the nail.
saintjay77 Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 Nicola Cortese isn't going to let him go on the cheap. I suspect the Premier giants eyes are currently watering, as their usual hire purchase route isn't working, because we want cash on the nail. Maybe this is something Cortese wishs to implement at the club also, Up front payments for everything and he expects the same in return. I havnt heard of any of our deals being done based on staggered payments so it wouldnt surprise me if we demand the same respect in return.

Matthew Le God Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 (edited) Nigel Adkins tells BBC Radio Solent earlier today he's "not aware of any bids having been made for Alex Chamberlain". http://audioboo.fm/boos/263821-nigel-adkins-responds-to-chamberlain-reports-thurs-pm Newspaper have been telling porky pies... Ewell Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 I hope others just saw that brilliant interview with Atkins on SKY. It appears to me that they want Alex to stay and they fully expect him to be part of our team until the end of the season. He also hinted he was a player who could take us where we want to go, he is allowed to flourish with us and make mistakes where he may not be at other clubs. I now get the feeling he may just be staying put!
NickG Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 you reckon the WHOLE media, with jounos and contacts everywhere are just simply running/printing what SSN are saying..? please there is some serious self denial here....I would be very surprised if he is contracted to saints come feb 1st which bit of the media should we believe? Best source so far has been Arsene denying bid and Adkins saying he is staying
Papa Shango Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011  Of course not!! They'd never do a thing like that to sell copy, would they? You are seriously deluded if you think the whole Chamberlain to Arsenal stories have just been made up by the papers for the fun of it. Same goes for MLG who seems to live in his own little fantasy computer game world. When a number of different sources run this strong on the story there is obviously something in it. Maybe he won't end up going, but either way someone close to the player or clubs is clearly putting the information out there. Just because Cortese said he wouldn't go a few months ago doesn't mean anything. Getting upset at the papers for printing these stories is retarded.
NickG Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 all it needs is one source, a lot of football stuff in papers is total rubbish - and on sky. How is Hart doing as our manager?
madruss Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 all it needs is one source, a lot of football stuff in papers is total rubbish - and on sky. How is Hart doing as our manager? Indeed, and let's not forget WGS's long spell as Leeds manager when he left us!
Papa Shango Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 Indeed, and let's not forget WGS's long spell as Leeds manager when he left us! Maybe he'll end up staying, I have no idea. Point I was making is these stories aren't just made up out of nothing like Gingeletiss and MLG seem to think. They're obviously getting their information from somewhere. Maybe they are being fed BS, but believe it or not in 99% of football news that papers/Sky put out there does come from somewhere. They don't just sit around the table every day and say "Hmm what story can we make up today, I know lets just say Alex Chamberlain is going to Arsenal"

At no point have I denied Arsenal, Liverpool etc are interested in Chamberlain. They clearly are and it would be hard to argue otherwise given that Comoli has been watching him and Wenger commenting on him publicly. However some papers have been claiming fees have been agreed, Chamberlain visiting Arsenal training ground when in fact he was on his way to the Tranmere game etc etc. There is a difference between the two, the difference being - media bull**** to increase circulation, raise ratings. Whenever someone is struggling to debate with me and they resort to mentioning I research for a computer game it is very similar to Godwin's law...!
Papa Shango Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 Struggling to debate you? Hilarious. You have proven to be completely out of touch on this thread as well as the Charlie Austin thread.

Saint_clark Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 The latest piece of info we have is from Arsene Wenger, who said he couldn't see anything happening.
goodymatt Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 Adkins latest interview on saints player states that he fully expects OXO to be in his team on tuesday. We are not a selling club, and he needs to be playing week in week out, which he wont if he moves now. Looks like it has always been this way!
dubai_phil Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 The latest piece of info we have is from Arsene Wenger, who said he couldn't see anything happening. That's nothing new, he says that after every PL match with a contentious decision
Wes Tender Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 I have a bridge in London I would like to sell you..... Are you Wayne's agent? Would City let him come here from West Ham?
CHAZZA 92 Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 Spoke to one of my saints supporting mate from football who spoke to AOC in a nightclub for Lloyd Isgrove's 18th (used to play for saints i think) about a week or 2 ago and he said he is going to Arsenal with a loan move back to us which a lot have been saying anyway so just thought I'd share as it's come from the horse's mouth.

If this was such a done deal 7-14 days ago why has nothing been announced, and why would Wenger say he "expects no news" on AOC Oh and why was AOC allowed in a nightclub at 17? Poor effort.
Matthew Le God Posted 27 January, 2011 Posted 27 January, 2011 (edited) The Mirror have gone from... "Chamberlain at Arsenal training ground" last Friday (even though he was on a coach to Tranmere) and about to leave Saints type stories to... Not even mentioning it in tomorrows article about the 10 biggest transfers they expect to go through... http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Transfer-gossip-Luis-Suarez-Liverpool-Charlie-Adam-David-Luiz-Chelsea-Robbie-Keane-West-Ham-Phil-Neville-Tottenham-The-10-biggest-transfers-we-expect-to-happen-before-the-window-closes-by-Darren-Lewis-article683719.html The list is hardly full of huge deals, number 8 for example is the West Ham 2nd choice left back being sold. miserableoldgit Posted 28 January, 2011 Posted 28 January, 2011 A letter will be collected tomorrow morning from there camp and delivered to our camp. that said, it does not mean arsenal will be signing him, it just means that a letter with an offer will be in. Personal i think he should leave for the good money thrown about but be loaned back to us.(. I Know the driver whose first job in the morning is to go to collect from there solicitors and take to ours.) What happened?? Did the car break down?? Waiting for the AA??

St_Tel49 Posted 28 January, 2011 Posted 28 January, 2011 Fourth time, not third. Do not forget he wanted Shearer from us! No - Shearer was at Blackburn and Utd lost out when he chose Newcastle instead.
Frank's cousin Posted 28 January, 2011 Posted 28 January, 2011 Neded to remember that 'interest' by other clubs in talent is one thing, watching, following, asking... which can quickly dissappear when a price is mentioned, or conditions are set.... I go as far as to speculate that this is what has happened.... to date. If AOC wants to go, he would know (because his advisers seem reasonable) that his best chance of getting teh deal he wants comes from continuing to develop with us and prove he is worth the asking price - its then win -win. In an ideal world teh clubs progress would be very rapid and thus can match the expectations of young players - we get to the point where we can offer success and prem wages and potential trophies, we will keep our players - exept the greedy ones after stupid money...
kpturner Posted 28 January, 2011 Posted 28 January, 2011 No - Shearer was at Blackburn and Utd lost out when he chose Newcastle instead.Utd were also in for Shearer when he snubbed them and opted for Blackburn.
St_Tel49 Posted 28 January, 2011 Posted 28 January, 2011 Utd were also in for Shearer when he snubbed them and opted for Blackburn. I stand corrected
buctootim Posted 28 January, 2011 Posted 28 January, 2011 Of course Sir Alex, we rate him even more than Bale. Pay us £15m now and he'll be worth £50m in a couple of years, promise.
merrimd Posted 28 January, 2011 Posted 28 January, 2011 Do these 'Loan Back' deals actually ever happen? I am forever hearing them bandied around by fans and ITKers, but I struggle to recall it happening anywhere!
Lets B Avenue Posted 28 January, 2011 Posted 28 January, 2011 Do these 'Loan Back' deals actually ever happen? I am forever hearing them bandied around by fans and ITKers, but I struggle to recall it happening anywhere! Chris Smalling this time last season. Stayed at Fulham. Ryan Harley last week. Swansea have lent him back to Exeter. HTH.
merrimd Posted 28 January, 2011 Posted 28 January, 2011 Chris Smalling this time last season. Stayed at Fulham. Ryan Harley last week. Swansea have lent him back to Exeter. HTH. Smalling is down as having his transfer put through July 2010, although technically I guess you are right. Harley is just strange. Why do it for a free transfer? Not a huge amount of others, considering it seems to be an option every time we sell someone.
saintjay77 Posted 28 January, 2011 Posted 28 January, 2011 Wenger's pre match press thingy has just been on SSN where they asked if they sign no-one will that be deemed a failed transfer window. He said no because they havent identified any player that will strengthen the team so they wouldnt have lost out on anyone. Then he was asked about AOC and he was really vague saying there is no news although they like the player. He was asked if Man U's supposed interest will help Arsenal's focus to get him. He said he doesnt think so and that he cant really comment on if other clubs like a player or not. I reckon Arsenal have spoken to someone at our club and had their knuckles rapped for talking about our player in the way they have. Doesnt meant nothing will happen but think dealing with Saints in a public way will not wash with anyone anymore and Arsenal seem like they realise that now.
stu0x Posted 28 January, 2011 Posted 28 January, 2011 Smalling is down as having his transfer put through July 2010, although technically I guess you are right. Harley is just strange. Why do it for a free transfer? Yeah I couldn't work that out either. Why not just agree terms to join in the summer. Odd. Not a huge amount of others, considering it seems to be an option every time we sell someone. The buying club doesn't like it, it puts all the risk on them. Let's say we sell Oxo to Arsenal for 10mill, they loan him back to us, and before the end of the season he gets Eduardo'd. Mr Wenger would not be very happy.
davefizzy14 Posted 28 January, 2011 Posted 28 January, 2011 Alex is quicker than Theo http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/southampton/8289589/Alan-Smith-Southampton-have-three-danger-men-to-spoil-Manchester-United-manager-Sir-Alex-Fergusons-day.html

That said, AOC has better technique.

Professor Posted 29 January, 2011 Posted 29 January, 2011 Couldn't face going through 23 pages to see if my question has already been asked and/or answered. Is it not true that potential buying clubs must ask permission of a player's current club before speaking to him? AOC is on a 3-yr contract. Has SFC said that any club has been given permission to approach the player? If there has been no approach under FA rules, doesn't that mean that all the quotes in the press amount to illegal approaches? If this is true, what action could you expect the FA to take in response to our player having been 'tapped up'. I can answer that. Absolutely nothing.
