Solent 08.20 said Man U wanted to talk to NC with regard to Oxo.

Surprised old Fergie hasn't chucked this in there before now as he's playing down here on Saturday. Usually does it to opponents for a little disruptive mind games. Guess he was happy Wenger was doing his job for him - not that he'd be overly worried about third division Saints - but after Leeds last year.

With all the hype over last couple of weeks with Oxo. Should he play on Saturday regardless. As I am worries that as a 17 year old all this attention could have really negative effects on his performances. What do you think?

Posted

I think Chamberlain will start on the bench Saturday anyway.

Expect us to make a few changes, with a line-up not too dissimilar to that of the Blackpool game.

Exeter on Tuesday is the most important game out of the two.

Maybe. Maybe not. Don't be suprised to see Wenger implement 'Phase 2' of his unsettling plans...

I fully expect to see Arsenal players, i.e. Theo, talking about Chambo in the press very soon.

It also needs to be said - Full credit to Nicola for not caving in so far.

Well it would depend on how 'we're not going to pay silly money for the lad' will be taken in the AOC camp wouldn't it.Might see it as a bit of an affront because it would mean that he was worth less than Theo, as it would seem to me that this comparison is of the utmost importance in some way..........well we'll see.

His status is now...

that reads to me like he has just signed a new five year contract with us. Nice. Glad that is all done and dusted. :)

caving in? There was no contact as of Monday. How much contact was made yesterday when they had a game on I'm not sure, but I doubt Cortese is tied to a chair and being tickled till he breaks.

Twitter Officialsaints: News on Alex Chamberlain coming up on the official site in the next few minutes. Keep your eyes on www.saintsfc.co.uk #saintsfc

EDIT: Feckers! AOC called up and nothing more. :)

one thing's for sure, should we sell him or any other player the club won't make a big song and dance about in advance, ie by sending out a preview ****ter announcement saying "big news about X player is coming". Buying a player, certainly, but selling? No chance. You are better off registering for the potential buying clubs ****ter if you want to get five minutes ahead of the game.

A journalist will ask what a player thinks of him potentially joining the club. That player can either say "I don't want to comment on a player from another club as it's disrespectful" or he can say "from what I've seen and heard he is a fantastic player and if he joins us that will be great. This is a fantastic club and as an Arsena player you want thebest players to come to this club to help us challenege for honours".

Neither will be part of Wengers cunning plan to encourage him to Arsenal.

I only started following them to get match updates. But they dont do nearly enough of them if I am honest. Team line ups is about the only news they sometimes manage to break before anyone else!

Noticed Puncheon is on the bench for the Under 21's today.

Interesting that this has gone quiet...

maybe Cortese will not be budged after all...?

One way or the other, he will be judged. Hopefully, for the right reasons. If we get to Tuesday with AOC still on our wage bill, I will give NC a high five when I next see him and say "Your alot better than that right c*nt we had in before... mush."

Haha. Quote of the week!

Not one newspaper has even briefly mentioned in the last month and a half of their idle speculation that Nicola Cortese said Alex Chamberlain won't be sold.

Will be interesting to see how they cover their tracks if Chamberlain is still here next Tuesday as a Saints player. I'd guess they will make up a story that a deal has or is close to being arranged for the summer.

Don't know why you're getting so defensive about this. Maybe the deal will happen, maybe it won't. It's not like the papers are making it up though. The deal either is/was close to happening or someone close to the club/player is feeding them information that isn't true.

Well as Nicola Cortese will play a key role as to what happens, you would think that a journalist would at least mention he said Chamberlain is not for sale. They all seem to think it is a given that Chamberlain will move. Cortese has done nothing so far for anyone to doubt his word. He said Lallana and Chamberlain would stay. Since that interview, Lallana signed a 4 and half year deal and 26 days into the window Chamberlain is still here...

Looks to me as if Cortese is setting out his and the club's stall ready to demonstrate we are a BIG club and will not be knocked around by any other club. If that's the case then hats off to NC - he really has shown us what a fantastic CEO he is time and time again. He's got so many decisions right and my feeling is there will be many more.

Probably because it is completely irrelevant - if the player wants to go, the player will go. Simple as that.

I doubt Cortese would risk his credibility by making such a claim without knowing the players intentions beforehand. After-all, Chamberlain had signed a 3 year deal with Saints three months earlier, so discussions about the future would have taken place about what would happen in the eventuality of bids in January.

disagree- 3 months is a lifetime given how explosively and unforeseeably AOC's career and interest in him have grown- the kid wasn't even regularly starting and finishing games three months ago. It was his SUB performance against Oldham that first raised eyebrows

Not unforeseeable at all. He has been tracked by all the big clubs for years! Having been at Saints academy for the last 10 years and playing against other academies, Saints are more than aware of his talents and potential. Saints would have known it was highly likely a bid would come in. Not the point I was making anyway... Cortese would have had dialogue with the Chamberlain's and I very much doubt he would have said the things he did to the BBC on 8th December if he didn't think he would be keeping him.

I just love your utter innocence of how the world operates, it is refreshing in this cynical age. How old are you?

Are you seriously suggesting that AOC is not looking to move, because what he told Cortese last autumn? Even though it would be trivial for AOC to quash the rumours if he were not interested in moving?

I have a bridge in London I would like to sell you.....

:lol::lol: Of course not!! They'd never do a thing like that to sell copy, would they?

Yes, because football clubs NEVER say that a player is not for sale only to sell him a week later. That definitely doesn't happen all the time.
