Smirking_Saint Posted 25 January, 2011 Posted 25 January, 2011 And neither of them are any better than Jake Thomson was, amazing the difference playing in a winning team and not getting injured makes. Was thomson that highly thought of back in the day ?
Chez Posted 25 January, 2011 Posted 25 January, 2011 And neither of them are any better than Jake Thomson was, amazing the difference playing in a winning team and not getting injured makes. Not sure I agree with that. After about 20 seconds of their debuts you could see that both Walcott and Alex were top class. Thomson on the other hand just looked lightweight and out of his depth and in all other appearances he looked the same. Very good players stand out.
West End Saint Posted 25 January, 2011 Posted 25 January, 2011 I wish they would just get on with he is going to much speculation for him not to be off Arsenal Man U & Liverpool all reported to have made bids the sooner it is done the better so we can get some players in Would be nice if he stays on loan till the end of the seasons & helps achieve something but I am not holding my breath with Punch looking for a way out we will really need at least 2 wingers in get on with it FFS
NickG Posted 25 January, 2011 Posted 25 January, 2011 Seriously, I doubt any of the players brought into that plan. A few gullible fans may have, but the players know the chances of is getting to the Premier League in two years is very low. Team spirit is all fine and well, but if a Premier club offers to double your wages then it isn't a hard decision to make. . Maybe not a high chance, but all three team promoted from league 1 last season are now in top 9 of championship. 1 in automatic place, 1 in play offs and 1 three places off play offs. Two of those teams we significantly out performed over the 2nd half of the season, and all possibly without the investment we could have in championship. A lot to hope for but no far fetched.
Smirking_Saint Posted 25 January, 2011 Posted 25 January, 2011 Not sure I agree with that. After about 20 seconds of their debuts you could see that both Walcott and Alex were top class. Thomson on the other hand just looked lightweight and out of his depth and in all other appearances he looked the same. Very good players stand out. I will always maintain that AOC gave me a better impression then Walcott did on their comparative debuts. It may be however that once watching AOC's it was because it was a level down from that which i saw Walcott compete at. But i don't know 100%. For me AOC always seemed a better footballer. I always quite liked Thomson though TBF, but comparing him to Walcott and AOC is madness. Bale was always the stand out of the three for me.
saint_stevo Posted 25 January, 2011 Posted 25 January, 2011 Thomson looked lost. Leandre Griffit coming on and scoring v Blackburn gave me the 'we found a gem' feeling. FAIL

However, even with his old man going on Sky Sports F*****g News yesterday, I don't think anyone in the prem, with the current lack of money floating around, will be willing to spaff £10 Million on a 17 year old nipper who has played a handful of League One games and 45 minutes for England U19's. There is some figure in his contract, otherwise Cortese would just be telling them to plough on, not let it be in the hands of the Chamberlains. When this all started coming out in the press at the beginning of the window, these were the figures they were quoting. Now someone was planting these seeds in the press and I don't believe it was Cortese, everything now points to this being orchestrated by the Chamberlains. If someone meets what ever terms we shall soon find out, because it's not going to be any bigger than what's required and Cortese is not going to go out of his way to be helpful. I am still wondering if any club is going to be happy meeting the 5+5, then where does that leave everyone?
NickG Posted 25 January, 2011 Posted 25 January, 2011 His dad's not coming out of this looking great. Short answer, like most things with saints re signings / contracts etc, we know nothing!!
CanadaSaint Posted 25 January, 2011 Posted 25 January, 2011 IIRC one of the big reasons for Walcott deciding to go to Arsenal was that he would be mentored by Thierry Henry; this is what he wanted and that's what they told him would happen. I think Henry was very willing to do that - and did it - until he left for pastures new. AOC would not go there with the same attractive prospect in mind, so he has less to gain and more to lose by going to Arsenal now. Liverpool might be a different prospect because that's a line-up he could crack. I agree with Ron. If he has the confidence that his game will progress more by staying here, and that he'll be even more attractive in a year or two, he's much better off to stay. If he wants to cash in now rather than take that risk, he'll go.

ant Posted 25 January, 2011 Posted 25 January, 2011 Not officially if he has. Is it just my imagination or has the crowd in the Emirates been doing the Alex Chamberlain chant this evening? They have something that goes by the same tune if not. Clearly means nothing either way, but a bit cocky!

Training with Cesc Fabregas every day can hardly hamper your development! However, it remains to be seen if he really is that good.. he's been good for us this season (not our best player by any stretch) but could it just be a run of form? He was pretty rubbish in the couple of sub games he played last season, though this was probably due to nerves, could still possibly be a sign? S-Clarke Posted 25 January, 2011 Posted 25 January, 2011 I fully expect him to leave, but I would be shocked and disappointed if the agreement doesn't include a loan back. Otherwise he'd basically be saying that he doesn't want to play competitive football for 6 months.
Smirking_Saint Posted 25 January, 2011 Posted 25 January, 2011 TBF, I will never think bad of him for attemtping to improve his career, but if true and he has posted this stuff on facebook it paints him in a very bad light. Especially by saying 'payed or played lol' Which to me insinuates he will be getting a very pretty pay packet at the arse. It just gets me that this has all come about so so quickly, he has only had 20 odd games. Its a shame but i suppose we will all move on. Getting used to our promising players upping and leaving so easily.
Smirking_Saint Posted 25 January, 2011 Posted 25 January, 2011 No, I don't know him. I added him on FB to follow him and he was getting abused on there tonight so i popped up a chat with him and he explained. How sure are you it is actually him ??

Smirking_Saint Posted 25 January, 2011 Posted 25 January, 2011 Why would we want to loan him back? If he wants to leave, let him go. Because it will leave a massive hole in the side thats why, why can nobody see that ?? We are already lacking quality widemen with Puncheon being a spoilt brat and Lallana injured let alone losing AOC with less than a week left. That said, will he give us his all for the final flings of the season ?? If i were Cortese i would tell Arsenal to stuff it until the summer and tell AOC he needs to keep it up if he were to win Arsenals affections again come summer. Then leave it in AOC's court. That way it benefits us and maybe him.
