Window Cleaner Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 I am always amazed how players with a " if offer by a prem club of £451,352.00 is received" then the player is able to go AND strangely a bid of £451,352.00 is received from MU etc. How does this clause get leaked? Mancsaint well I'd think that agents tell them, it's pretty obvious.Don't think it's against the rules for a player to disclose his contractual terms to an eventual interested party.
eelpie Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 How did Spurs and Arsenal "fleece" us in the Bale and Walcott deals? We could have negotiated better with Spuds. Was cash plus Tommy Forecast a bargain?
100%Red&White Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 Losing Lallana for a few games has exposed the fragility of our squad, we need to get in some quality (not easy in the third division) but if selling OXO results in that then it cushions the (inevitable) blow. £5m up front is a significant warchest in this division or the Championship, I just hope we can attract the quality needed at this level. Best hope is that Man City come in and gazzump everyone with a higher bid and we get a big % sell-on clause as he's unlikely to last past a couple of seasons up there.
Saint_clark Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 We could have negotiated better with Spuds. Was cash plus Tommy Forecast a bargain? Of course, but we were desperate at the time. The original deal would have got us much more - we'd probably be rolling in it with how well he's doing this season.
Matthew Le God Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 We could have negotiated better with Spuds. Was cash plus Tommy Forecast a bargain? Forecast was not involved in the initial deal. Bale left in May 2007. Forecast joined in July 2008.
ottery st mary Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 How did Spurs and Arsenal "fleece" us in the Bale and Walcott deals? I felt that they took advantage of our poor financial state...but agree that is business.. They gave us a counterfeit footballer in Forecast . Someone failed to do their homework. Both deals were heavily weighed against us regarding the add ons...We could have done better in theoriginal deal. As stated previously not knowing what is in the player contracts...means as usual I could well be talking out the other end (remembering their ages /contracts etc) No disrespect to our Chairmen at the different times of contract and settlements...I felt we had been done over..or fleeced. Let us hope we get a good deal with AOC when it happens.
Saint_clark Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 I felt that they took advantage of our poor financial state...but agree that is business.. They gave us a counterfeit footballer in Forecast . Someone failed to do their homework. Both deals were heavily weighed against us regarding the add ons...We could have done better in theoriginal deal. I'm not sure what you mean? It would have been us that approached Spurs asking for an early settlement, not the other way around. And as for Forecast, if things had gone really tits up and we lost Kelvin, Bart etc. we'd have needed a cheap alternative. Yes he's crap - but when your finances are messed right up, that's what you have to settle for. Pompey should take note.
ottery st mary Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 Forecast was not involved in the initial deal. Bale left in May 2007. Forecast joined in July 2008. I think Forecast was part of the settlement payments to us..ie much reduced..... Was he not valued at 5 mil by Spurs wide boyzzz;)
Matthew Le God Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 I think Forecast was part of the settlement payments to us..ie much reduced..... That is why I said "not involved in the initial deal".
ottery st mary Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 That is why I said "not involved in the initial deal". Just checked and as usual you are right again...as always.
Gemmel Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 The least Arsenal can do is send a couple of players here on loan. They have plenty who could do a very good job at this level. Thats not wengers way and looks like the only hold up in the oxo deal. Wenger wants them trained the Arsenal way and for them to be the only ones coachinging them tactically, physically and mentally.
Saint_clark Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 Thats not wengers way and looks like the only hold up in the oxo deal. Wenger wants them trained the Arsenal way and for them to be the only ones coachinging them tactically, physically and mentally. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arsenal_F.C.#Out_on_loan Quite a few Arsenal players out on loan...first team experience when you're young is always better than just training.
Matthew Le God Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 Thats not wengers way and looks like the only hold up in the oxo deal. Wenger wants them trained the Arsenal way and for them to be the only ones coachinging them tactically, physically and mentally. Nonsense! So why are Ramsey, Traore, Afobe, Emmanuel-Thomas, Evina, Hoyte, Randall, Bartley, Coquelin, Miyaichi and Watt all currently out on loan?
Window Cleaner Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 Nonsense! So why are Ramsey, Traore, Afobe, Emmanuel-Thomas, Evina, Hoyte, Randall, Bartley, Coquelin, Miyaichi and Watt all currently out on loan? Miyaichi is because he doesn't as yet qualify for work permit so he has to stay at Feynoord until he does.
Matthew Le God Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 Miyaichi is because he doesn't as yet qualify for work permit so he has to stay at Feynoord until he does. I just listed them quickly to beat Saint Clark to it (but failed ). It still shows that Gemmel was wrong though.
Gemmel Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 Thats how wenger positioned it when he took Walcott and refused to let him stay on loan. I would also question how many of those loannee players have a long term future at the club and the reasoning behind sending them on loan ....i.e to offload them. Having said that very happy to be wrong if we get to keep Chambo here on loan any other rising stars they might have.
MarkSFC Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 I get the impression the Wengers methodology regarding kids is to get them into Arsenal and take them out of the limelight immediately to take the pressure off but more importantly to immerse them in "the Arsenal way". Then when they progress they either play a few League Cup games to ease them in or then go out on loan but by the time they go on loan they know exactly what Wenger wants and expects from them. By sending a player straight back out on loanmeans that Arsenal have to wait longer to get them into their way of doing things and potentially more importantly (to Wenger perhaps) they end up with bad habitts etc. As much as I like AOC if he goes...let him go and move on. Wouldnt want him back just so he feels like he has done us a favour by doing so and helping us get promoted. Either you are committed to Southampton FC or you are not. If not...bye bye son!
CityRanger Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 Lots of people are saying a loan back would good but imo if he puts pen to paper for Arsenal or whoever he's theirs and I no longer want to see him in a Saints shirt thankyou very much. Re-invest the money and move forwards.
Thedelldays Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 Lots of people are saying a loan back would good but imo if he puts pen to paper for Arsenal or whoever he's theirs and I no longer want to see him in a Saints shirt thankyou very much. jimmysaint7 Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 Lots of people are saying a loan back would good but imo if he puts pen to paper for Arsenal or whoever he's theirs and I no longer want to see him in a Saints shirt thankyou very much. Re-invest the money and move forwards. This post is spot on. If he decides that at 17 and twenty first team games he wants out then I never wanna see him In a saints shirt again. I also think he will be better served in our first team rather than arse reserves. For what it's worth I fully expect him to leave
trousers Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 Tonight's London Evening Standard (back page): "Saints chairman Nicola Cortese is demanding £10million up front with the Gunners targeting a deal closer to £5m plus add-ons" Stand your ground Mr Cortese...

He can't have his cake and eat it. Off you good into the big wide world son, good luck. If Saints aint good enough bye bye.

BallBoy Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 I cannot cope with reading all 16 pages on this thread but those I have read seem to be happy to sell if the price is "right". I am not. We have previous on all this. We never replaced Shearer, Walcott or Bale with decent, like for like players. We ended up worse off in every case. We cannot produce or buy another Chamberlain. We have nurtured him and it would be crazy to let him go now with just days of the window left. If we really want promotion then we need to keep him and ADD to the squad. Also, how is it that Wenger can get away with his comments when the player is still contracted to us? And another point, why on earth do Arsenal need another winger? I want Chamberlain to stay.

Gemmel Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 Im ******* sure that arsenal do want it as 5 million plus add ons. If we have to lose the player, then we do it on our terms, not theirs and that is the big difference to where we have been in the past.
CityRanger Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 i assume you never want any loan players then..? Not ones that have just signed for another club from us! There is a difference between that and any normal loan surely you'll agree? I also guarantee he'll be booed by some of our fans. Maybe this would be a better poll than him staying or austin coming: If Oxo signs for Arsenal do you want him to stay on loan?

Maybe this would be a better poll than him staying or austin coming: If Oxo signs for Arsenal do you want him to stay on loan? i would welcome him back on loan ffs... its pretty clear that he would be off by the summer at the latest ffs why would you not want him here..he is clearly fuking good in this league ffs.. we need to go up ffs he would certainly help with that ffs. we are division 3 and time some people remembered that here
dubai_phil Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 A hole in the head I expect. Is what the club would have preferred this week rather than all of this
Saint Charlie Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 10m upfront with loan back for this season. Otherwise buy someone else if you don't like the terms.
NickG Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 still no offer then? All rumour and talk at mo. Only clear reports are Arsene saying not spoken to us, Saints saying no offers and not for sale
Huffton Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 Tonight's London Evening Standard (back page): "Saints chairman Nicola Cortese is demanding £10million up front with the Gunners targeting a deal closer to £5m plus add-ons" Stand your ground Mr Cortese... Bloody hope so. Will be nice to have a Chairman who doesn't bend over and get lubed up at the first offer
Thedelldays Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 still no offer then? All rumour and talk at mo. Only clear reports are Arsene saying not spoken to us, Saints saying no offers and not for sale how do you know there have been no offers today..?
Smirking_Saint Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 Its all just Wenger trying to get into the players head, Wenger doesn't want to spend 10mil on a player unproven at any higher levels and who may or may not fulfill his potential. What Mr Wenger really wants is to unsettle AOC so that he will put pressure on the board.
modern matron Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 This post is spot on. I also think he will be better served in our first team rather than arse reserves. For what it's worth I fully expect him to leave That's daft! So you would jeopardise promotion? The best deal for us to sell him for as much as possible and keep him on loan for as long as possible!

Smirking_Saint Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 to be fair....like we did with adkins really....what goes around and all that It happens everywhere, i just hope that cortese turns around and explains that we are financially well off ATM and if Arsenal want him they will have to pay top dollar or else we will wait until the next club that wish to pay up.

Thedelldays Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 Is the Standard still a free rag that you pick up at the tube entrance and leave on the seat when you get off?? thats the Metro.....causes more litter than anything IMO
shirleysfc Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 10m upfront with loan back for this season. Otherwise buy someone else if you don't like the terms. If they want a winger on the cheap they can have Puncheon for £5m up front, not bothered about a loan back either.
NickG Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 how do you know there have been no offers today..? could be at anytime - but reports are of nothing so far
Thedelldays Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 could be at anytime - but reports are of nothing so far to be fair..we have announced transfers out of the blue a few times in the last year or so...
Thedelldays Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 this is hardly out of the blue! but they dont have to officially let on if and what they have offered
John B Posted 24 January, 2011 Posted 24 January, 2011 Is the Standard still a free rag that you pick up at the tube entrance and leave on the seat when you get off?? Yes it is a free newspaper Cannot see Arsenal paying £10m up front not sure he is worth that Dont really want Arsenal to be ****ed off with the club as they have so much talent we could loan in the future

Like this idea with a 40% sell on clause as well, and in a couple of years when he is established in the first team, lets get the Barcelona rumours started, may be no truth but start the rumours to unsettle him.
