judging by the comments from Wenger and his Dad this monring I see no way he'll be staying. We've produced another great talent and sold him to another top club. Only this time we are financially stable and that 10m will get us promoted. Come on guys, wake up and smell the coffee. It's a cracking deal

Posted
No, but all the papers could have just nicked it from Sky Sports.

And the beeb aren't saying he's sold, they're just got a quote from Wenger saying he's trying to sign him.

you reckon the WHOLE media, with jounos and contacts everywhere are just simply running/printing what SSN are saying..?

please

there is some serious self denial here....I would be very surprised if he is contracted to saints come feb 1st

If he forces a move then don't loan him back, just move on. I wouldn't want him in the team. Yes promotion is vital, but I'm truly fed up of the way football operates now. He's 17 ffs. Yet he can't wait 5 minutes to learn the game and actually prove something at the club that's developed him? It's just all about instant success, big money and the premiership. He knows he won't play much, if at all, there. It makes it impossible for clubs like us to progress. The money is no use, you can't sign 5m or 10m players in League 1 anyway. If quality is/was available, we'll sign it anyway if we can regardless of this money.

Still, the speculation hasn't helped us so maybe it'll be good to have him gone. Just hope we put everything into keeping Lallana long term because I'm fed up of new players every 5 minutes.

Hope Adkins drops Chamberlain for the Man Utd game, just to annoy the media only there to see Arsenal's new academy product.

100% agree - Great post - I find it incredibly frustrating that as players leave, teh part we playedd in their development is so often overlooked, but thats teh media obsession with teh prem and specifically with the top 4 or 5 clubs - the armchair fan who does nothing but watch the top sides on Sky and CL football is king in this day and age....

lets be honest fellas....(and ladies lol)

who would blame the lad for wanting to go to arsenal..?

No-one except some of our fans who are no doubt driven by motivation in their own lives but don't see that it can apply to others as well.I just hope that Cortese and NA don't get too much stick from the Antis, there's nothing they can do if the price is right and the player wants to go.

you just know that the minute OxO leaves..be it, now or the summer..the usual mongs will slate cortese for it...

Fwiw £10million would be a great deal, especially if we get him back on loan for the rest of the season.

And then we can look forward to seeing Ward-Prowse and Sinclair come through the academy as well...

Posted

AOC may well be worth £10m based on future potential, but at the moment I'd only put him fourth or fifth in importance to our team - after Lallana, Lambert, Fonte and possibly Guly. £5m well spent on three players now and £5m tucked away for another day would do more for our season than AOC staying against his will.

Posted
He is going to go, so what, we cant compete with arsenal! Its what we do with the money and the replacement we get that matters!!

Exactly thorpie. I'll be sad to see him go, but we should be ok without him as i'm sure we'll reinvest a few mill. in transfer fees over the next year or so.

I'd imagine a fair bit of the lump sump will go back into the acadamy too, which is also great news. That's what we haven't been able to do in recent years, with all the money we've got for our youngesters it hasn't really helped make the club stronger. It will now.

I heard Holloway make a decent point at the weekend. He's been offered 4m for Charlie Adam who is cutting the mustard week in week out in the premier league. We've been offered for a player who still has off days in League 1. Bite his hand off Nicola

Best to ignore those that dont get the bigger picture... I am 100% that NC and NA will be doing everything possible to try and keep Oxo for as long as they can, but as you say these things are never fully in our own hands. The one benefit we have under our regime is that unlike most lower league clubs, we dont NEED to sell a starlet every year or two just to keep teh club afloat and out of debt - we can reinvest every penny in teh first team and academy to support promotion pushes and players for the time when we are back at a higher level and we should not forget that its down to Marcus and Nicola that we are in that strong position, no matter how frustrating it is when young players leave.

it would be a great deal...

£10m

keep him on loan till the end of the season

buy mackail-smith and austin

tip ******* top

Would prefer Mackail-Smith and Pilkington...now THAT is mouth watering.

either, or

but I think we have to try and keep OxO till the end of the season no matter what....he was always going to go in the summer at the latest anyway

So to sum up.

1. AW says it would be nice to have AOC but there haven't been any talks yet.

2. NA says as far as he knows there haven't been any talks.

3. Mr OC snr (agent and dad) says that Arsenal would be his perfered option but there haven,t been any talks.

So to sum up AW and the OC family think Arsenal would be a good place for AOC to play next, but no talks have taken place.

So at this moment in time, the newspapers are having a quiet time despite the transfer window so are spinning alot of ****** to fill lines in papers.

However they could all be toeing the party (NA) line and keeping everthything as quiet as possible in this media frenzied age, and a deal is being brokered as we speak.

Chamberlain is not worth this kind of money, and I'd be delighted to get that for him. Yes he's a cracking talent, but that's all he is, a prospect, he's not good enough to play in the prem yet, no way, and I don't think he is any where near as good as Walcott was at 17. As much as I think he could be a very good player in the future, but 10m could set us up not just for promotion this season but next as well!

Spot on, I agree with you 100%

Its a shame it appears his Dad and Arsenal forced this move into happeneing. He has probably been offered a swish new car and a big house in north London on top of massive wages. It probably will push his career back a few years. He'll be a reserve at best for a couple of years but I guess that doesnt matter to his Dad. He just see it as a secure financial future. I agree I dont want him back on loan if he goes as far as I am concerned he is out of here the moment he signs on the dotting line for Arsenal.

If I were his dad I would be worried about Wenger's apparent obsession with young black boys, obviously Walcott is now too old for his obsession... thats all I am saying ;) Seriously though If i were in charge at Saints and I had the money to say no, I would. I wouldn't care about maintaining a good relationship with there club and play it all nice, I would quite literally tell them where to go. I hate the fact clubs like Arsenal and Spurs can just come in and steal our young players then take credit for all our hard work. Yes I know we have been guilty of that in the past when we were in the premier league but I am sure we didnt keep going back to the same club over and over again like Arsenal have started too.

all saying he is off........they ALL cannot be making it up

I feel I must respond to you here, DD. All these quotes, are the same tripe rehashed by the various media sources you have highlighted, not a single one of them, has any proof, and until it appears on our OS, then that's all it is, speculation. That said, it seems you, and most of the others posting on this thread, have a wish to see him gone, I'm sure if he's reading this, he will be so glad that none of you are backing him to stay.

I dont want him gone...where have I said that...but lets be honest and live in the real world..he is going to go...either now or in the summer...I think if he goes now, it is essential that we keep him for the remainder of the season..

I wish he would be a saints player for years to come..but this seems to be unrealistic.......even his family are saying he wants to go to arsenal one day...

I don't wish to see him gone either. Its just that the whole thing now has a feeling of inevitability about it.

Does anyone know if "KeySports, Sports Managment" (football agents), are involved in this would be deal??,as they were the main "distractors" involved in convincing a certain Mr Walcott that his son's future was better served away from St Marys, while collecting a big pay day themselves!??.If they are then we will have funded them handsomely for a second time,at the cost of our playing squad once again...... Dont you just love football agents!!!

There was just a bit on AOC on Sky Sports News speaking with his dad and showing a few clips etc. Wenger definately showing his interest and Chambo's dad saying how arsenal would be 'the best club to go to'. Seems like his mind is made up from what i saw.

Totally agree.Chamberlin is overrated.

Arsene Wenger seems to disagree.

Can't see him doing any worse a job for them than Arshavin even now.The number of times AA firks up on good through ball because his control is poor is unbelievable.

Posted
He is good no doubt but all the people calling him the best youngster in England and better than Theo was at his age. That's rubbish.

To be fair I can't think of any under 18s who are better than him. But I agree comparisons with Theo are just silly.

This story is gathering pace now, its disappointing but hey we should all be used to that here. The only stumbling point for me is Cortese does not like doing his buisness in public & I can see him being intransigent here as well, he will be unimpressed with Mark Chamberlain, Wenger & Arsenal using the press to push this deal though! And we all know how NC's behaved when this has happened through the press & with the press involved before. Could be with NC it doesn't happen this window. I think the best think for Saints is to get the money in and move AOC on if that is his choice! (good luck in youth team football for the next 3-years), no loan back either please. Use the money for Mackail-Smith or Austin & how about Antonio back as well.

Its football and highlights the importance to get back up the leagues as soon as possible to give us the best chance to hang on to these youngsters.

I never thought for one minute that we would get close to 10 million for him, but it looks like i was wrong. How crazy has football become.

However. If a third of those funds are made available for other players we can be a stronger team without oxo and still have a wedge in the bank. Question Cortese on other things, but not this. As a business deal, this could be one of the best he has ever made. Cash in, strengthen and move on.

I think the fact his Dad is on SSN talking about Arsenal are his son's preferred destination and Arsenal have confirmed on their O\S they are negotiating for the player as well as Wenger's comment's after Arsenal's game at the weekend we can pretty much conclude that it is not a matter of IF but WHEN.

DD is spot on (for once) and the WHEN is looking pretty close!

Ten million is a ridiculous amount of money for a 17 year old. We should take it without doubt. Alex is not that important to us as a team (Lallana and Fonte are much more so.)

I'm pretty sure all of those media outlets were saying for certain that Avram Grant was going to be sacked by West Ham after they played Arsenal the other week. They all ran with a story from one source which turned out to be wrong.

Not saying it will or won't happen and would prefer him to stay until the end of the season, but just because it's in the papers doesn't mean it will definitely happen in the next week.

In fact, some had Martin O'Neill installed as the new manager, and he knew nothing about it. As I said previously, they use a scattergun approach, knowing that they will get something right eventually.

Is it not time that we started a "Good Luck at your new club Alex" thread?

It's quite obvious that someone has found the Emergency Exit lever on the bus.

Or was it more of an Escape to Victory plot?

He would have been but O'neil turned it down.
