Saints foreva Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Just had a friend who is watching SSN text me to day Oxo at Arsenal Training Ground with Mark.... Looks like it is true. Just had a quite browse through some Arsenal forum and nothing on there.
Charlie Wayman Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 To suggest he was better off staying with whiskey George and even Te Dutch duo than going to one of the finest clubs in Europe who bring through superb youngsters is just plain daft. A very crappy analogy indeed. Nigel "Hug-a-star" Adkins is the one of two very sensible and sober reasons why the Oxy situation is so totally different, the other one being Nicola "My Way or No-Way" Cortese. Again, I'd advise all to disregard the Arsenal link cited by the Mail. If we can afford to run without a shirt sponsor for a whole season in League 1 ask yourself why we'd be remotely interested i discussing £5m for the "best young prospect in English football" £25m + may prove to be less resistible... but Gooners don't have that sort of money and sure as hell we are not here to subsidise those perennial poseurs. Mr Wenger may be a very nice man at times but he gets awfully angry and *****y sometimes whereas Adders seems venom-less.
Gingeletiss Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 If he goes the fans will need to be sensible and get over it quickly. It was ridiculous with the reaction to Walcott going. When you're out the top flight and a player wants to go there's not much you can do. Getting a good fee is all that matters. I'd be angry if we lost players to low prem teams or championship teams, but this is Arsenal ffs. I suppose the reaction was largely about Lowe last time so hopefully we'll see more sense. We'll need to replace him and move on, but it'll be unsettling in terms of the ambitious feel around the club. I have no doubt Cortese would love to turn down any amount, but if the skate dad agent wants him to leave then that's that. That'll help make up his mind!!
SamyCM Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/852687-arsenal-close-in-on-deal-for-alex-oxlade-chamberlain Interesting that it says "Southampton rate Oxlade-Chamberlain higher than their academy graduate in terms of cost, with the club believed to be seeking no less than £10 million for him". So I would have thought with our financial position and no one at the moment to replace him would suggest that Arsenal will need to up their bid to £10million (would have thought unlikely) or NC just says no.
SamyCM Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 That'll help make up his mind!! He is also the coach there isn't he...?
Saint_John Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Dated today (last hour) from ESPN with quotes http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/67680.html?CMP=OTC-RSS Saints not interested in Oxlade-Chamberlain sale "Alex isn't going anywhere," Cortese said. "He's a great prospect for the future but not the transfer market. I don't think he would wish to be anywhere else." "I am confident I can keep all my players here during the January transfer window," Adkins said. "There has been a lot of speculation about Alex and there will be throughout the transfer window. But Alex is our player and he's got a smile on his face, so we'll have to wait and see. But let me make it quite clear that Southampton have never put a price tag on anyone's head."
Ashby Saint Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Dated today (last hour) from ESPN with quotes http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/67680.html?CMP=OTC-RSS I'll believe that when its on the OS. Otherwise its just a few recent quotes cobbled together into an article that makes it look like its groundbreaking news.
Colinjb Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 I'll believe that when its on the OS. Otherwise its just a few recent quotes cobbled together into an article that makes it look like its groundbreaking news. True. Interesting that very few media outlets are actually willing to show our intent to keep hold of him. The rest is all about where he is apparently off to.
MacFad2207 Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Just had a quite browse through some Arsenal forum and nothing on there. I am hoping he is on the windup, I text back a few times asking if he was having me on and he said he was 100% they just showed him going into their training ground with his old man..... Nothing online though, so maybe he is just being a tit.
eelpie Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/67680.html?CMP=OTC-RSS They seem to be getting Guly and Oxo mixed up, lol But interesting to wonder how much Guly is worth now he is scoring even more freely than Alex?

Pacifistic twaddle lacking any sensitivity to the issues involved or the reaction of all connected to the club! If AOC is allowed to leave before the end of his contract it will be a disaster for the fans and a disaster for the club. It will signify beyong doubt to the manager, the players and the fans that we are still a selling club and ergo not interested in becoming anything other than a self-sufficient business where football is of secondary importance. If AOC leaves thee will be an immediate exodus, contracts or no contarcats and the first out wil be Nigel Adkins followed veru quickly By Adam Lallana and Morgan Schneiderlin and every other youngster who thinks this club has a real furure and their futures are best guarantedd by staying with this upwardly mobile unit called SFC. Knock out one brick from this still fragile structure and down will come the whole house of bricks make no mistake on that judgement. I may be only one fan but one of long-standing and sitting fan who has bought his ST year-upon-year come what may but if we even hint at being unambitious and a selling club again I will be off for good. Nicola Cortese will know this.
Red and White Army Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 The fact of the matter is that if Alex wants to go, then he will. Nothing sensible that anyone here at Saints can do. I think AOC would be mad to turn down a big money move to Arsenal personally. He could break his leg and end his career next week. For the increase in money and opportunity he will get at Arsenal it makes a lot of sense to move on. Bale & Walcott are now international stars earning megabucks, despite leaving Saints at "too young an age". We as fans might like him to say, but the reality is that he would be mad to stay.

If we keep him against his wishes then we may well end up with a disruptive element in the squad. Every club down at our level is a selling club because most players want to play at the highest level that they can. Those are just the facts of life until we get back to the Premiership.
NickG Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Ronaldo -Man U - selling club - all fans left them???
NickG Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 OS update no price been put out http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2266521,00.html?
Red and White Army Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 OS update no price been put out http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2266521,00.html? After reading that it is obvious that AOC is off. Not even an attempt to deny it by Adkins, and finishes up by stressing the team is more than one player. Byebye AOC.
ottery st mary Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 The lad seen at Arsenal training ground WAS NOT ..AOC.. My reliable source tells me it is a lad who looks nothing like Chamberlain.. The player at Arsenal training ground is a cousin of George Weah.....AND goes by the name of Ali Dia... Apparently Arsenal are quite excited and will put him straight into the first team for their next game..
merrimd Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 After reading that it is obvious that AOC is off. Not even an attempt to deny it by Adkins, and finishes up by stressing the team is more than one player. Byebye AOC. Those are just quotes taken from the Saints Player interview and I came away from that pretty confident he WILL be staying.
ohwhenthesaints Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 A guy on FootballForums reckons AOC is training as normal: http://www.footballforums.net/forums/showthread.php/270034-Why-the-press-full-of-*-* He also, interestingly, suggests that Guly has signed a 3 year deal and that this will be announced soon.
swannymere Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Can i be first in the queue for whatever Charlie Wayman is on? He's clearly on another planet! Selling club, every club is a selling club. I can't think of any club outside of the top 6 in the Premier League that would turn down £10M for a youngster.
Alanh Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 True. Interesting that very few media outlets are actually willing to show our intent to keep hold of him. The rest is all about where he is apparently off to. Hardly that surprising though. The story is that a youngster from L1 has the potential to command the biggest transfer fee (outside of Man City) in the current transfer window. The media aren't served in developing the story by publishing our intention to keep the player whatever the truth may be. That just kills the story and they have to find something else to write about.
S-Clarke Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Grab your ticket for Arsenal Charlie. You keep saying you'll be off, but you never quite manage it. Anyway i will be very suprissed if he's not here in feb. If he's here on a loan back then so be it, but he'll be here for the season. Cortese will not want this to damage our prospects this year.
MacFad2207 Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Just had a friend who is watching SSN text me to day Oxo at Arsenal Training Ground with Mark.... Looks like it is true. Turns out my Tw*t of a mate was on a wind up, sorry for creating a curfuffle!
latter day saint Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 had to look twice when i saw this picture above an article about Oxo on http://younggunsblog.co.uk/category/news/
Liquidshokk Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 We simply must keep him http://www.101greatgoals.com/videodisplay/video-evidence-alex-oxlade-chamberlain-southampton-8167070/

Not even an attempt to deny it by Adkins, and finishes up by stressing the team is more than one player. Byebye AOC. How the flick, have you come up with that deduction, from the OS article? I have read it three times to see if I missed anything, and no-where, does it suggest he is off, I fear that you and many others on here, are wishing this to happen, so as to have another pop at NC!
dubai_phil Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Interesting that both Man City & Liverpool are trying to sell or loan some players this window. Is there anyone left in football who doesn't sell when it suits them or the deal is right? Of course not.
S-Clarke Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 I can't think off the top of my head of another club that is consistently producing young players at the level we are. We're not just producing ''good young players'' we're producing young players that are tipped to go on and become international stars. If only we were in the premiership...does my head in! Then we may have a chance of keeping a talent for more than 12 bloody months.
Thedelldays Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 I can't think off the top of my head of another club that is consistently producing young players at the level we are. . really...? arsenal man u villa boro watford (who most of the team are their young players) even palace everton
aintforever Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 You cannot argue that if a top side comes in for a player it's only a matter of time before they leave but SFC can completely control WHEN they leave. Would be dumb to cash in on Oxo now, if Arsenal are willing to pay what we want and if he wants to go, sell him in June not half way through a vital promotion challenge.
S-Clarke Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 really...? arsenal man u villa boro watford (who most of the team are their young players) even palace everton you cut the bit out where i justified what i meant...clubs are producing good young players that go on to get into their first team and maybe move to mid-range prem clubs. But i cannot see clubs producing players that go on to be ''international stars'' and champions league players at the rate we are. Look at Bale and Theo...and if Alex keeps going the way he is he should be as succesfull as them.

Joensuu Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Another aside, but I think our reputation for developing high quality young players has a massive value. Not only does it mean we are able to continue to attract the very best young players, but we can also command transfer fees beyond similar talent at other clubs... If, say, DMG had been at any other club, would he have fetched the same sort of figure?

If, say, DMG had been at any other club, would he have fetched the same sort of figure? I agree, it's a big bonus for us. Our reputation probably means that talented kids would see SFC as one of the best clubs to start off with. OK, so we lose them eventually but in the process we get to see them develop and then get a pile of cash when they go. I'd imagine Saints would have to be in the top 5 clubs for producing international standard talent. Chivers, Channon, Williams, Wright (got him v.early), Wallace (Rod & Danny), Shearer, Le Tiss, Bridge, Walcott, Bale, AoC.................and then you have a whole load more who have turned out to be decent pros too. Just as an aside I wonder why we seem to have produced some of the finest strikers\attacking midfielders but not too many defenders?

St_Tel49 Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 I just find it interesting that fans would rather believe newspapers with a reputation for getting things badly wrong and random posts on message boards than the team manager, the chairman and even the boy's father.
Joensuu Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 DMG went for like £1m didn't he? Probably about right Really? So you value DMG about as highly as Lambert then? Don't forget DMG has scored 4 goals in 38 appearances for Forest.

Noodles34 Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 1 - More happy that Lallana has signed 2 - More happy if Gully signs 3 - More happy if Ricky scores 20 more this season 4 - Happy that Alex stays thats the order I want, number 1 - sorted
MacFad2207 Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 Macfad2007 is it not you who is the wind up merchant. I thought you went and supported Brighton in 2007 when the wheels fell of our train ? Haha, are you referring to a post on a thread about Football Manager 4 years a go?! I am afraid to say I did start a game as Brighton in FM 2007! You will be pleased to know in FM11 I have taken Saints to the Premiership title! I do feel a bit stupid about posting rubbish from a mate on here. He is usually spot on with these things. Turns out he has the day off work, was bored and just trying to wind me up, it worked! I personally hope/think he will stay till the end of the season. Other than than the Brighton game coincidently, whenever I have watched him this season he has been class. Maybe not at the level Bale was when he was rampaging down the left in our playoff season.
Chez Posted 14 January, 2011 Posted 14 January, 2011 He is also the coach there isn't he...? no, he was sacked by Hart not long after he asked him to bring Alex across to PFC.
