I would start our strongest team and go for the win.

Confidence breeds confidence, and winning is a habit.

If we were to lose, it's no great shock really, they are PL, but if we win, what a shot in the arm for the players - to have beaten a PL team.

Blackpool win or replay though? Blackpool win.

Yes I would, it's a strange one today!

I would rest as many as possible-it's a busy time ahead & we will need our squad- some need a game-Martin,Connolly,Barnard,chaplow,Richardson etc

Tuesday will be a very hard game IMO, they are not a bad side & want promotion too

No to a replay! If it`s 0-0 with 5 mins to go we should be going all out for a win and sod it if we lose

This .... with Kelv (or Bartman) playing Rush Goalie and charging up field every time we have the ball !!

Yes or No?

This goes against my grain but I think I would answer yes as too many games could sidetrack goal number 1 ie promotion

I'd rather we were out of the cup already, let alone contemplating a replay!

Whilst I responded 'yes', does that not make us as bad as Blackpool, in dis-respecting the FA cup, should not all teams in this top cup competition, be compelled to 'play to win'?

No, it's not bad. In most walks of life we choose what events we want to focus on more than others - exam choices, project priorities at work, etc.

Only in the artificially emotive world of football does logic go out of the window to be replaced by emotion laden reasoning.

A replay is in neither clubs interest, but i'd sooner have a replay than a defeat. We've got a strong squad and we'll be adding to it so there's no reason to fear a few extra games.

Yes.

I would also rest the likes of Lambert today.

The man who says he is still trying to reach full match fitness ... which is only acheived by playing matches!!

A few goals under his belt against a possibly inexperienced defence would be better than freezing his nuts off on the bench!!

It is sad that the Cup has lost its aura.

If we were in the prem or the Championship I would take a replay but today I would rather Blackpool score in the last minute to avoid a replay. I would love to know Adkins's view.

I'm pretty sure there'll be a win one way or the other today as Blackpool will play a very open game.

And I hear that they're likely to make 11 changes from their last Prem line-up so are there for the taking; Saints to win 2-1.

I think Adkins would totally disagree with you, just like i disagree with you. In any sport it's a good thing to play better opposition because you always raise your game. When I play darts or pool down the pub I always play sh1t against sh1t players, but when you play someone who's good you play good yourself and this creates good form which you can take into the next games.

Dunc, the FAC lost its aura forever for us when we let Manyoo tonk us 4-0 in 2005 in order to concentrate on surviving relegation (which we didnt anyway)

I am with you on this one. Hate seeing Saints lose but we have bigger fish to fry.

I aslo think that we will lose even with Blockpool fielding reserves. These are players capable of playing premier football or they would not be part of the set up.

Cue for the after-match manager comments;

Holloway: Of course I hate to lose, but it was only our reserve side, and Saints are far too good for the league they're in .

Adkins: A win is good, but it's hard to judge our real quality when playing against Blackpool RESERVES !

I wonder why the FA dont introduce a rule similar to the one that applies in the JPT whereby a team has to play a certain percentage of its regular players - i think it equates to 6 regular first teamers in the JPT.

I dont think either team wants to win because of the League situation at both clubs

agree...I just hope one teams wins today..if that is saints then great..of not, no loss

A third one in the rather we weren't in cups camp here. There really is only one goal this season, get out of this league, and everything else is a distraction.

Last season i loved the jpt, and was pleased for the game against the blue few, but then with the minus 10 i wasn't expecting to go up. This season given the resources and players we have we should be challenging, so anything that distracts from that is a problem.

Posted

Most seasons I would disagree, & hope we stayed in the F.A cup as long as possible. But this season we have 1 priority that is to achieve promotion & get back up into the championship.

So the last thing we need is an extra game which would distract us in anyway, so I vote yes whilst a Saints win is preferable, Id take a Blackpool win over a draw.

I have to agree that the romance of the F.A cup does seem to have dissipated, but that is the nature of the game these days.

I think today is a great opportunity for both teams to go out and play open attacking football with out any fear. Hopefully there wont be any silly challenges because the pressure of winning is so much less,so less chance of injuries and bookings. Both managers should be telling there players (weakened side or not) ,Go and enjoy yourselves doing want you do best PLAYING FOOTBALL

Its a tough question. As a fan i want us to win every game. But will our chances of promotion be helped by more cup games? No. But as has been pointed out winning is a habit. So all I wish for is no injuries and I'll take anything else as it comes.

I hate it when theres no game for us on a Saturday.

As this doesnt seem to happen with L1 that much, if we go out the cup, were probably still play a game on FA cup weekend.

So for that reason im not to fussed if we lose.

Not sure why so many want us to lose. Surely when you're playing well and winning the more games you play the more you gel as a unit? A confidence booster to play a Premiership team and beat them? If we beat them then surely our tails will be up and we'll be looking forward to our next game?

I actually think the Johnsons paint trophy run made us a better team...

Completely agree. You could see that that cup run gave the team more confidence and togetherness. I still don't understand why people are so certain that a good cup run will have a negative affect on our chances of promotion.

But if we win, then we'll have a cup game on a saturday instead of a league game. I don't get your logic at all.

i am amazed so many "supporters" want us to lose.

And I am amazed that you dont understand why. I dont want a defeat but I completely agree with the reasons of those that do

The logic being if we were say in the EPL, chances are we wouldnt have a game if we were out the cup in say round 4 or 5.

In League 1 most eams are out by that stage so you still get a game.

Not that hard to understand really.

Yeah, but we're not in the EPL, and if WE are still in the cup, then WE will still have a game regardless. Either way, we get a game on a saturday, so I still don't understand your logic.

Yes, definitely want to avoid a replay.

Should we make it through then the Charlton home game will be shunted further foward,so not too bothered about winning today if its at the expense of the league progress.

Most important of all, I just hope we come out of today without injury to key players.

Perhaps your emphasis with the "... " is over the wrong word. I don't think supporters "want" us to lose, but see an exit from the cup at an early stage to be in our long term interest and benefit.

Of course I too would like a L1 and cup double. Although European football might play havoc with our 2011/12 season in the championship.

What I don't quite get is some people get all worried at the prospect of an extra game and yet don't bat an eyelid when a game's postponed leading to an inevitable backlog of games...

The more games you play when you're on it, the better. A winning mentality is something to nurture surely?
