Sh1t! I met him once. He was doing a sponsors appearance on behalf of Troop at Top Trainers in the East Street shopping centre in about 1989. There was a queue of people waiting for his autograph and the lad in front of me asked Gary if he wanted to fight Lennox Lewis (who was just making a name for himself as a pro) and his reply was "No. I want to be world champion."

RIP Gary.

Bloody hell, I feel quite shocked by this.

Rip

This is a real shock' especially in light of the near miss I had in Bracknell last night with a driver of a red Audi on my cycle home. It was quite clear that the driver simply didn't see me on a roundabout and only some rapid evasive action got me out of a similar fate. I was well lit and properly attired. Don't want to preach to motorists as I am one too, but ffs look out for the cyclists!!

37 wins out of 38. Only defeat to Lennox.

Thats pretty good stats. I remember being decent but not really World Class. Solid as a rock though.

I remember Lennox Lewis beating him at Wembley Arena in 1991 (it was my first ever visit to a fight a present for my 21st birthday). Mason l think was stoped in the 6th round
