WTF is this all about?! I can imagine uproar from the clubs of the European based players which will make up a large percentage of the players involved.

The issue is a potential source of tension between Fifa and the Qatar authorities, with relations between Blatter and Qatari executive committee member Mohamed Bin Hammam already strained.

Last night Bin Hammam, who is also the Asian Football Confederation president, said he did not want the competition to be moved. “Qatar has submitted a bid where we will organise a World Cup in June and July,” he said.

“We are well equipped to challenge the heat. If Fifa has a different opinion we should not reject it but Qatar won’t be part of that decision.”

 

Dear Mr Blatter,

 

Having lived and worked in the Middle East for 17 years, may I just point out one minor error that Important People in Important Jobs in "The rest of the World" have been making since the year dot? It is such a small and insignificant point but it is amazing how arrogant idiots keep making the same mistake.

 

You never, ever, EVER try and tell an Arab what to do. It is a "Manhood" issue. It is exactly the same issue that makes you go all aggressive whenever somebody suggests that perhaps you and your cronies harm global football as much as improve it.

 

The Qatari's bid for a Summer event. You ain't gonna find life very easy TELLING them to have it in the Winter.

 

Perhaps you could have thought of this issue first? Or did Barcelona need the Sponsorship money?

this explains why so many games were postponed around christmas at short notice then. Mind games.

Perfect. We won't be able to play there in summer because it is too hot. We can't play here in winter because of snow/ice. Let's just reverse the seasons from now. English football season to run from February to November. World Cup to be held for 4 weeks over December, but only ever in countries that have winter sun. Final on New Year's Day. Perfect solution.
