Thedelldays Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 Fonte / Seaborne his first choice pairing not lately
Chez Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 (edited) Seabourne is a far better center back than Jaidi in my opinion, he's quicker, reads the game better, can pass three yards and isn't just a lump. I don't necessarily agree with that, Jaidi wins headers, the bread and butter for any centre back, and at times Seabourne's inability to dominate a striker in the air puts us on the back foot. It's not everything I know but it is very important. If you went to the Dagenham game you'd have seen a the opposition hoof it long all day and Jaidi 's strength in the air meant we were as safe as houses. Winning that arial battle gives the side a firm footing to build on. Jaidi has been imense recently and definately first choice. Seabourne needs to be much stronger before I am fully convinced. Eaststander Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 We are building a club here, that means having a squad of players. DS may have had off games in some peoples eyes, and clearly RJ is in the twilight of his career, but we need both this year. DS was a strategic buy and is still developing, and has taken great leaps forward since his arrival here, and the beginning of the season. For those who are critical of DS I suggest that you take a look at the video of the first 20 mins of the Huddersfield game last week when RJ had what can only be described as a mare. But using his experience he pulled himself and the team together and turned it around, turning into a hero. RJ can't play two games a week and we will get injuries and further suspensions, so stop trying to pick an 11, and look at the squad position where at CB we especially need continuity and understanding between all the CB's.
scotty Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 well if i accepted everyones view point on here then every player is either sh*t or should be playing in the premier league and Saints are in crisis one minute and the greatest club in the world the next. you might be joking, but that bit is accurate.
NickG Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 Adkins clearly sees him as first 11 CB - so can't imagine him wanting to lose him
The9 Posted 7 January, 2011 Posted 7 January, 2011 Wouldn't blame him for leaving with some of the clueless people on here that say he is useless, can't think of a more improved player since Adkins took over. I thought Seabourne was pretty decent at the end of last season and haven't seen all that much improvement under Adkins actually as he was doing reasonably well anyway, though obviously gaining more experience will help over time. I think Adkins has been pretty smart with Fonte's partners, he's usually used Seabourne against the nippier strikers (eg Exeter) and Jaidi in matches like Dag & Red where pace isn't so important but strength in competing for headers is. He even managed to get two games in 3 days out of Jaidi earlier in the season, though he was near spontaneous combustion in the last 10 minutes of the second match and was a total liability for that time. I can't see us losing Seabourne OR him particularly wanting to go, unless we sign another Championship CB in the next few weeks.
Chez Posted 7 January, 2011 Posted 7 January, 2011 Adkins clearly sees him as first 11 CB - so can't imagine him wanting to lose him are you saying he rests Seabourne and brings in Jaidi? IMO he rests Jaidi and brings in Seaborrne. It matters not as we need spare CBs.
OldNick Posted 7 January, 2011 Posted 7 January, 2011 DS is ok, and if a team the division above him rates him then we can't be doing too badly having him.
brmbrm Posted 7 January, 2011 Posted 7 January, 2011 Adkins choice CBs Fonte 14 Seaborne 12 Jaidi 8 Martin 0 Fonte / Seaborne his first choice pairing Are you allowed to use hard facts on this forum? Don't they get you infracted or banned? You know you have just made a lot of people look like plonkers, don't you? Jeesh.
Scudamore Posted 7 January, 2011 Posted 7 January, 2011 Adkins clearly sees him as first 11 CB - so can't imagine him wanting to lose him Stop being simple Nick. There plainly is no first 11 centre back pairing. There is Fonte plus one of the other two depending on the opposition.

You know you have just made a lot of people look like plonkers, don't you? Jeesh. Oh yeah. He smashed it with those cold hard facts! Still. Who played against the tough opposition in recent weeks Peterborough, Brighton and Huddersfield...all about Jaidi and Fonte. Presumably "first 11 CB" Seabourne was rested for being too first choice!

Seabourne was injured for the games against Posh & Seagulls. Hope that helps.
NickG Posted 7 January, 2011 Posted 7 January, 2011 Stop being simple Nick. There plainly is no first 11 centre back pairing. There is Fonte plus one of the other two depending on the opposition. and Seaborne has been picked by Adkins 50% more times than Jaidi - simple enough! Its more - training performance, opposition, fitness etc. Bottom line those saying he isn't a first pick for Adkins are wrong!
ericb Posted 7 January, 2011 Posted 7 January, 2011 Firstly i've got to say this three post thing is ****ing ridiculous, i really don't understand why a forum needs to be charged for? There's so much free hosting and building software for forums that can handle massively more traffic than this place! It really stops a proper right to reply, or even just clarifying points (i put a post in the winchester moron thread that got misunderstood by a few and could never reply to it, then weirdly it got locked) Jaidi wins headers, the bread and butter for any centre back, and at times Seabourne's inability to dominate a striker in the air puts us on the back foot. It's not everything I know but it is very important. Definitely agree that in recent games Jaidi has been a total rock and it's amazingly important to have someone like that in this league, and as you say his headering is immense. I just think going forward that Seabourne has the talent to be a far better player. Mind you as someone here sagely put it's not about a team, it's about a squad, and as we all know there's plenty of games where a lump is what's needed!
Scudamore Posted 7 January, 2011 Posted 7 January, 2011 Seabourne was injured for the games against Posh & Seagulls. Hope that helps. It does...thank you.
Scudamore Posted 7 January, 2011 Posted 7 January, 2011 Can't believe i just wasted half an hour of my life doing this...but there you go. Adkins games and his centre backs. Player on the bench in brackets. League MK Dons - Fonte Seaborne (Jaidi) - L 2-0 League Colchester - Fonte Seaburne (Jaidi) - D 0-0 League Sheffield Wed - Seaborne Jaidi (Martin) W 1-0 League Yeovil Town - Jaidi Seaborne (Martin) - D 1-1 League Bournemouth - Fonte Seaborne (Jaidi) - W 2-0 League Tranmere - Fonte Seaborne (Jaidi) - W 2-0 League Huddersfield - Fonte Seaborne (Jaidi) - L 2-0 League Oldham Athletic - Fonte Seaborne (Jaidi) - W 2-1 League Notts County - Fonte Seaborne (Jaidi) - W 3-1 League Dagenham & Red - Fonte Seaborne (Jaidi) - W 4-0 Fa Cup Shrewsbury - Jaidi Seaborne (Martin) - W 2-0 League Carlisle - Fonte Jaidi (Seaborne) - L 3-2 League Peterborough - Fonte Jaidi (Martin) - W 4-1 League Brighton - Fonte Jaidi (Martin) - D 0-0 Fa Cup Cheltenham - Fonte Jaidi (Martin) - W 3-0 League Brentford - Jaidi Seaborne (Martin) - L 2-0 League Huddersfield - Fonte Jaidi (Seaborne) - W 4-1 League Exeter City - Seaborne Fonte (Jaidi) - W 4-0 League Dagenham & Red - Fonte Jaidi (Seaborne) - W 3-1 Fonte 15 Seabourne 13 Jaidi 10 Make of that what you will. But as far as i am concerned it is far from an open and shut case as Nick would have everyone believe. (God i hope there's no mistakes in there)
NickG Posted 7 January, 2011 Posted 7 January, 2011 (edited) In fact, of our 11 clean sheets this season, Dan has been CB for 8 of them! I still cannot see why people think he is so carp! I cannot say that I am mad on him but he gets the spot ahead of Martin which suggests that NA thinks something of him and I would concede that he knows more than I do . What??? Jaidi and Fonte is Adkins preferred central pairing. Seaborne started more games FL Fonte 19 Seaborne 12 Jaidi 10 Martin 3 What about since Adkins has come in ? Adkins choice CBs for league games Fonte 14 Seaborne 12 Jaidi 8 Martin 0 Fonte / Seaborne his first choice pairing not lately 1st January???!! Seabourne was injured for the games against Posh & Seagulls. Hope that helps. and Seaborne has been picked by Adkins 50% more times than Jaidi - simple enough! Its more - training performance, opposition, fitness etc. Bottom line those saying he isn't a first pick for Adkins are wrong! simple!! Edited 7 January, 2011 by NickG
david in sweden Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 They want him according to skysports even if true, it's good PR for a manager who wants to calm troubled waters by " hinting" at a new signing. How many clubs (besides Spurs) have hinted they want to ´" borrow " Beckham ? I don't think Seabourne will go anywhere!
SaintRichmond Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 are you saying he rests Seabourne and brings in Jaidi? IMO he rests Jaidi and brings in Seaborrne. It matters not as we need spare CBs. Easy way to sort this Play Jaidi against Blackpool, they have a few "nippy" players Then you'll see just how "pedestrian" Jaidi is, he simply cannot turn quickly anymore. Div 1, OK maybe. CCC or higher, forget it
Ewell Posted 8 January, 2011 Posted 8 January, 2011 simple!! I would add arrogant, opinionated, self-righteous with delusions of grandeur to that list as well.

That's why Jaidi plays in certain games against certain opposition and Seabourne in others. Adkins is making very good use of this squad at the moment.
