The Majestic Channon Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 They want him according to skysports
saintscottofthenortham Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 If they have had a look at him, I don't reckon they'd want him anymore. As much as I don't rate him and would have Martin in his place every day of the week, we are very shortnat the back.
Saint_Ash Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 Maybe one of our targets is an excellent centre back then and Seaborne will be surplus to requirements, especially as we have Martin up and coming who is still only 19. Be awesome to get another centre back who is on a par with Fonte!

saint1977 Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 I wouldn't sell Seaborne - he's still developing and remember he was with Exeter from non-league. He's come on leaps and bounds since we signed him and how many left-sided centre backs with pace do you see outside of the PL? OK, granted, he's raw at the moment but unless Micky Adams offers £1m+, it's a sale we'd live to regret as I think Seaborne will go on to be worth lots when he's 25-26.
EBS1980 Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 Depends if we have someone else lined up. If we sold him and put a 10% sell on in the deal and replaced him with a Fonte type then i'd say do it.
Chez Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 ****tu was mentioned on the HCDAJFU thread a while back.
SaltashSaint Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 I was at the Exeter match and I thought Seaborne produced a good performance. His distribution needs working on - as it does with most central defenders - but he won pretty much everything in the air and he reads the game superbly. He is by no means the finished article, but with a few more games under his belt, he is going to be a very capable defender. Selling him would make no sense to me.
This Charming Man Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 Seabourne is a decent enough back up, but can't say I'd be that bothered if he left.
itchen_dan Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 He is a decent player for this level but as others have said, if we've got someone else lined up then why not let him go as long as there is future clauses in his contracts. Still think we shouldve signed Elliot Ward instead of him.
Lighthouse Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 Seaborne is alright. Doubt I'd lose much sleep if he left though, there are better options out there. I don't want him out, but if a decent offer came in I'd take it.

He was excellent in that game and has been good in others, but that's not always the case. He needs to be nastier and win more in the air for me. Whether he will add that to his game I am not sure. Decent left foot though, and some of the "hoof" comments on here are way off the mark as he `pings' a decent cross field ball. Handy left foot as well when it comes to making clearances etc which is the sort of thing that goes totally unnoticed.

I think he is an excellent center back and would much rather he played than Jahidi. He won everything in the air , which RJ does, however when he did win his headers, they went forwards. His distribution is 10 times better than RJ, whos clearances generally end up in touch, plus he is much faster. We do seem to keep more clean sheets with him in than with him out which is surely the telling factor. I would be gutted to see him go.
saintscottofthenortham Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 seaborne is massively underrated I respect your opinion. But your wrong.
merrimd Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 In fact, of our 11 clean sheets this season, Dan has been CB for 8 of them! I still cannot see why people think he is so carp!
sambosa75 Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 In fact, of our 11 clean sheets this season, Dan has been CB for 8 of them! I still cannot see why people think he is so carp! For the record I agree and that stat doesnt surprise me at all. Jaidi is handy for some games at this level but Seabourne is also a much better talker. He is still relatively young also and will only get better.

I cannot say that I am mad on him but he gets the spot ahead of Martin which suggests that NA thinks something of him and I would concede that he knows more than I do .
Window Cleaner Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 is Elliot Ward available? he's at Norwich so I doubt it.
ottery st mary Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 is Elliot Ward available? injured at the moment..

I really have to laugh at some who appear to want to give hime away almost every week.. Vastly underated and will only get better. But then again money talks...If sheff have got any and we can afford to sell..
saint_stevo Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 he's at Norwich so I doubt it. injured at the moment.. Whooosh?

Vastly underated and will only get better. But then again money talks...If sheff have got any and we can afford to sell.. This Think like many players (eg Guly & AOC) he has developed this season and will continue to do so. We have "finished articles at this level" in our team in Hammond, Butterfield & to an extent Lambert (so far this year). The players you ship out are the ones that do not improve with each game OR you know you have found better. Jaidi isn't gioing to get any better, he isn't going to get faster but he will continue to do a job in games this year. Seabourne has a long way to go yet but then so does AoC & Guly in terms of learning and becoming more reliable. But if we've found another Fonte then ciao Dan.
ottery st mary Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 Whooosh? Just spoken to Elliott and asks that you stop doing this ...you are far too clever.. His witch Doctor states his wonky knee is playing up again but would have been good enough for Saints.. But he thought Seaborne, Martin and even Jaidi were in better condition and only costing together the same wages as Wardey...
Professor Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 seaborne is massively underrated Very true. Too many people just follow the fashion of slagging off Dan Seaborne but fortunately they don't pick the team and the guy who does clearly rates him as first choice alongside Fonte. If its true that Seaborne has caught the eye of Micky Adams at Sheff Utd it just goes to show that football professionals know a great deal more about spotting a good player than does your average fan.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 When I think about some of the dross we've watched the past 3/4 years, I think Seabourne is a pretty decent prospect. Certainly he can get better, but you need players who are going to improve as we move up through the Leagues. There aren't going to be too many Centre halfs that are the finished article at his age.I thought we wanted a coaching structure that identified young talent and improved them, not sold them as soon as the first offer comes in.

What??? Jaidi and Fonte is Adkins preferred central pairing.
Toomer Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 The jury is still out in many quarters with regard to Seaborne but given time I think he could become a decent centre back.
Ken Tone Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 In fact, of our 11 clean sheets this season, Dan has been CB for 8 of them! I still cannot see why people think he is so carp! Quite. For me he is the best partner for the excellent Fonte that we have at present. I'd only let him go if we buying real quality to replace him, someone of simlar quality to Fonte in fact!
LostBoys Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 I think he is a player with great potential and the same applies to Martin.
Chin Strain Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 He's ok at this level, but is he good enough if we get promoted? Personally I can't see it. However, as always if we were to swap him for better quality would that be an issue?
Turkish Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 lol another one our fans dont think is good enough for us wanted at a higher level.
Golden Balls Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 He's born by the sea, He's born by the seeeeea, Danny Seanbourne, Hes born by the sea. I like him, he just needs to improve his decision making.

NickG Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 What??? Jaidi and Fonte is Adkins preferred central pairing. Seaborne started more games FL Fonte 19 Seaborne 12 Jaidi 10 Martin 3
Chin Strain Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 lol another one our fans dont think is good enough for us wanted at a higher level. lol, another one of our fans who can't accept a different point of view.
tttdcs Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 I think he is a player with great potential and the same applies to Martin. ...+1
Turkish Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 lol, another one of our fans who can't accept a different point of view. well if i accepted everyones view point on here then every player is either sh*t or should be playing in the premier league and Saints are in crisis one minute and the greatest club in the world the next.
Saint Garrett Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 Seaborne started more games FL Fonte 19 Seaborne 12 Jaidi 10 Martin 3 What about since Adkins has come in ?
dronskisaint Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 Tell Micky Adams to do one...we don't need the money & he's still developing...good enough now for this league & possibly the NPC but it's ludicrous to sell him while he can do the job we need from him. Been sound when I've seen him this year.
aintforever Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 He's still young, a player i would definitely keep. I find it amazing how so many people write off young players because they are not yet the finished article.
NickG Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 (edited) What??? Jaidi and Fonte is Adkins preferred central pairing. Seaborne started more games FL Fonte 19 Seaborne 12 Jaidi 10 Martin 3 What about since Adkins has come in ? Adkins choice CBs for league games Fonte 14 Seaborne 12 Jaidi 8 Martin 0 Fonte / Seaborne his first choice pairing Edited 7 January, 2011 by NickG
ericb Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 Seabourne is a far better center back than Jaidi in my opinion, he's quicker, reads the game better, can pass three yards and isn't just a lump. What he's missing is the position and awareness that comes from experience (if we were in a higher league we could loan him down the divisions for that!). Would be a real shame to see him go, but no surprise he'd be going to a higher level. I think he's going to be a very decent player in years to come.
Appy Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 Wouldn't blame him for leaving with some of the clueless people on here that say he is useless, can't think of a more improved player since Adkins took over.
Chin Strain Posted 6 January, 2011 Posted 6 January, 2011 well if i accepted everyones view point on here then every player is either sh*t or should be playing in the premier league and Saints are in crisis one minute and the greatest club in the world the next. Fair point. With Seabourne though there's a good yardstick playing alongside him - Fonte. He's a definite Championship class CB and I just can't see DS being anywhere near him in terms of ability or potential. Different types of player, admittedly, but IMHO he's a decent L1 centre half, but am not sure he could be a top end Championship centre back. I'd be happy to keep him and see how he develops, but if there was better who was available then I wouldn't lose too much sleep if he became a squad payer. All IMHO of course.
