we will not make the final....fact

Maybe not, but I wonder what wycombe fans were think in January 2001, only to find themselves 3 months later in the semi final at villa park.

I think we can safely assume that the last thing both managers want is a replay. To avoid a draw, how could they agree to avoid one? Maybe a gentleman's agreement that if one side is winning with 5 minutes left, the losing team agrees not to score in the remaining minutes? Or, if it's tied with 5 minutes left, one prearranged team (e.g. the one losing the toss) "accidentally" scores an own goal or concedes a penalty?

All hypothetically of course. Although if this was played in Germany a real possibility.;)

But a lot of people are saying that extra games (in addition to the League games) are a good thing. Indeed, some people would be happy if we still had JPT games to play this season....

Surely it therefore follows that a replay would be good, as it's yet another game we can do well in and thus gain even more positive vibes.

Unless these people are drawing an arbitrary line of course....

;-)

good. don't expect to see you with an opinion on the actual match as it means NOTHING

If there are injuries or a sending off to key players then it's reasonable for those of us who would not be unhappy if we went out to comment on that part of the game. It's not about the result per se.

Very true

In which case we should force a replay, and force that into penalties and then go on to fix the shootout so that it lasts exactly 2 months, 3 days and 17 hours

those saying that cup games dont effect the league..or what ever.

last season

the 12 or so cup games last season..we only won 2 league games that followed cup games..

and on a couple of occasions, the cup games stopped winning runs..

we dropped 16+ points in the games immediately after cup games last season...

but, that will get dismissed here

It will I'm afraid, because you haven't got you facts right, never mind the fact it doesn't paint the whole picture.

After league cup games

lost to Huddersfield away after Northampton game

drew away at Stockport after Brum game

After the FA cup games we

beat Charlton at home after the Bristol Rovers game

beat Wycombe after the Northampton game

Drew away against Millwall after Luton game

Drew away at Brentford after Ipswich game

beat Norwich away after the Pompey game

After the JPT games we

beat Southend away after Torquay

lost to Brighton after Charlton game

lost to leeds away after Norwich game

beat Ipswich in the cup after MK Dons game 1st leg

lost to skates in the cup after second leg

drew away at Brighton after Carlise game

The only game that ended a run was the Leeds defeat away. Christ they were top if the league and flying, it would not of made a difference what game we had before that game we would have had a tough task.

Yes we dropped 21 points, but you do know we dropped points in league games that came after other league games too, 38 in total with mky dodgy maths?

no one gave a **** about the JPT this season, actually some didn't give a **** about it last season even when we got to the final and won it. The FA cup us a real trophy, something to be really proud of winning not slightly embaressed.

sounds like we've got one or two that can't wait for our players to get injured tomorrow so they can come on here and give it the big I told you so. Best of luck with that.

You can prove anything with facts.

So in fact after FA Cup games we were unbeaten. So lets have a long FA cup run.

What I recall was that we were poor after JPT games, the difference with them was that we had to always shuffle the team about a lot more for the JPT because so many players were cup-tied. If I recall correctly for the FA Cup there were fewer players we had to leave out, so we were able to play a more consistent team.

if extra games has no effect..why will so many teams make sweeping changes this weekend..?

surely, most professional managers cant be wrong.

I bet if this was an away tie, the club would be under less pressure to field a stronger team and would not do so

Posted

Ok i dont comment much, but I meant I like an earlier post about the fact that most may not want us to play a full team tomorrow, but I personally would like us to show our strength and cain Blackpool tomorrow with a full team. It would show real intent plus make my accumiliator :)

I reckon it's great for teams to play weakend sides if they think it'll help their overall mission of promotion:

1. gives fringe players a chance

2. allows full strength squads that have nothing to lose to progress

4. keeps teams focussed on the bigger picture

3. spices up the FA Cup as *obscure teams have the chance to progress

*even if it's a big teams youth side - whichever way you spin it the FA Cup spirit is alive and well

I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I'll be disappointed if we put out a significantly weakened side. I love the FA Cup, especially the 3rd Round. I expect us to win. Stuff the negativity. I trust you'll all be at SMS tomorrow. Thank you and good night.

I am also looking forward to this tomorrow as I can't wait to be playing a Prem team again even if it is a weak team and to see Ian Holloway who I really like as he cracks me up in the interviews that he does and there in the same position as us as they want to stay in the Prem where we want to go up to the Championship and then the Prem!

Anyone got ideas on attendance yet and early team news then?!

Thanks!

it would be funny if our full team went for it and got knocked out by blackpools youth team...

how would effect the winning mentality...

I doubt I'll find it funny but if saints losing makes you happy feel free to laugh all you like..................

Yeah, I didn't see it until after I'd replied, and decided to leave it because my last bit doesn't really make sense without it.

No worries. Good to have some great minds thinking alike on here :-)

As long as we rest our latest signing I'll be happy

Rest! I want to give him a standing ovation and sing his name (while watching him score a hatrick to celebrate his new deal) bit tricky if he is not there.

Go and effing ask him, he has a bluey grey car, his misses was with him and he has a face like thunder, he was wearing his usual barbour coat and blackpool trackies.

Was just pointing out that it was a good point :) you backed up your story so fair enough. Well done.

and as for Bucks Saints other comment, we have got to be the unluckiest team in the country, first our (now premier league) manager tried to ruin our season by "training the players too hard" (hahahaha), and now it is under threat by WINNING CUP MATCHES.

God we have got to be due a change in fortune soon.

Thanks for misquoting me. I said check the other threads re pre season. And Nicola said Pardew was to blame pre season re Lambert, not me. And to be clear I would like us to rest some players tomorrow and save them for Tuesday, as I think that is more important. I have not said I want us to lose. I said I want to win both if poss, but Tuesday is my preference

May see you tomorrow. More likely Tuesday.

I think this could be a really exciting game! Even though both teams are fielding weaker sides than their usual league XI's there will still be a lot of quality out there and it will be 2 teams playing attacking football!!

Saints to come out on top in front of the home crowd, 3-1 win! COYS!

With neither side really wanting a replay, it could make for quite an open game. Even a weakened reserve team should make for a tough challenge, lets face it most of them will probably have featured in the Prem at some stage, or most certainly last years promotion winning side, so they won't be a pushover .... even though having said that, looking at their squad I can't say I've ever heard of hardly any of them - but there again i think that about most (all) of the teams who have beaten us this season!!

COYS ... a couple of goals for Adam in honour of his new contract and mass hero worship ala MLT.

If I were the boss the following players would get a run from the start:-

Bialkowski

Martin

Seaborne

Butterfield

Dickson

Gobern

Connolly

Barnard

I don't think extra game time would hurt Chappers either.

what is the team..?

No idea, just going by what THEVMAN says above - he's never been wrong about team news. Weston saint also alluded to a ''surprise'' selection.

adkins has used this formation a few times in games....

It worked a treat when we played it against exeter, lallana thrives at the top of a diamond
