Blackpool build up !

Yeah, the corners are closed. Even the family enclosure. I couldn't get my usual season ticket location in there.

You do realise that the club made the whole chapel the family centre about a year ago so it's not just that corner anymore? (which is why the chapel is cheaper than all the other stands for league matches)

Yes, but I liked that corner as it was quiet and had it's own specialist little beer bar. - That however is no longer the case. It's still nice and relaxed though and was even cheaper still over the Chapel.

I say play a strong team and go all out for the win. 'Pool have just lost at home to Brum, through a last minute goal. That will have been hugely demoralising and have them looking tentatively over their shoulder (5 points above the drop zone as it stands). It could get worse for them before Saturday with Everton, Wigan, West Ham, Villa and Blackburn all in action tonight.

I'd swap a few players personally, but I'd expect Adkins to go with a pretty much full strength side.

MY pick:

Bart

FR

Fonte

Martin

Harding

Lallana

Chaplow

Morgan

Dickson

Lambert

Barnard

I'd pretty much go with this- although I might go with Guly if available.

-------------------------Bart

Richardson-------Fonte---------Seaborne------Harding

Guly------------Morgan--------Hammond-------Lallana

----------------Barnard--------Lambert

Going by the D&R line-up, Butterfield, Dickson, Chaplow and Jaidi will play against Oldham away on the Tuesday so will probably be on the bench. Bart to come in and AOC rested. Something like that anyway.

If Adkins wants to rest Fonte, Hammond, Lallana and Lambert, though, then I don't think he'd find many against that.

We'll clearly play our best team given the opposition. Adkins won't want to lose.

Cup run is irrelevant. We have/had no JPT or Carling Cup run, so extra games have been minimal. A couple of exciting FA Cup games would be a nice bonus.

I expect to win. Blackpool will lose form at some point. I thought it might happen when the run of home games came and they lost last night. They have Liverpool right after our match with them, so will need to rest players for that. THEY can't afford a distracting cup run more than us. If they get on a bad run, they could struggle to survive despite their start.

Plus, they're used to being underdogs every game. We'll be a very different proposition for them. It'll be tight, quality wise despite the league differences I don't see much between us. Premiership or not if we're beaten by Ormerod and Euell I'll be gutted! Plus, Chamberlain running at Stephen Crainey??!

We have nothing to lose. Just hope we go for it.

And we have a very important away game at Oldham on the Tuesday after. Hope we rest a few players as Oldham away is a much more important game.

Blackpool are holding their own in the premiership and whatever side they put out will be tough. Look what happened when we played the premier leagues worst side in the cup last season.

Good luck with your sons first match! I picked Saints V Pompey last year for MY 5 year old- big mistake.. Apart from the scoreline, he was petrified, even in the family enclosure :(

No offence but probably not the best game to take a kid to due to the idiot factor it brings!

No, a 10 point deduction did. Without it we'd have been second in all likelyhood, haven't pretty much build a new squad from scratch. By far our worst run of results last season came in August and September, before the JPT had even started.

Last time we got to the FA Cup final we finished 8th in the Premier League. Says it all IMO.

Edit: Here's the League 1 table SINCE the first round of the JPT last season (2-2 draw with Torquay)

Norwich - 79

Saints - 71 (Bearing in mind we played a weakend squad for the penultimate fixture, knowing we were already out of it, should really be 74)

Millwall - 71

Swindon - 64

Charlton - 60

Leeds - 59

That would be my assessment. August and September (and no preseason and Falco) is what cost us promotion and as soon as we had the right squad the cup games probably made no difference at all.

Surely if we beat Blackpool and draw United or Chelsea, Adkins can use this as a carrot and half to boost motivation...

Don't think i'd go with two left sided midfielders. Would be a bit unbalanced. Would rather use Butterfield right back and Richardson right midfield.

Wins tonight for Wolves, Everton and Blackburn, plus a point for Wigan should have put the willies up them in the league. Maybe I'm clutching at straws, but I get the feeling that will have knocked their focus off this tie.

they will be saying the same about us...infact they (rightly) probably care less than us aboutthe FA cup this year...

we have a league game 2 days after...that is far far, far more important than the FA cup.....

we could be off 2nd place come this league game, and to miss out as the players are tired would be criminal..

It would be devastating if lallana done himself in against blackpool..or was tired against oldham etc..

I know people say they are pros etc etc..but it does not work like that anymore, players are fitter than ever..or train as such that they are far more finely tuned and therefore, need recovery time..

of course, in the league you may not get that recovery time you want...but this is not a league game..

I dont know if Oldham have a game Sat..but they are a strong, physical side, that were quite heavy in the challenge last game..

I hope we give ourselves NO disadvantage for the oldham game with the team selection on sat..

why we need to worry about the FA cup this season.....is beyond me..

Ah great, FA Cup game so Solent can broadcast commentary online via BBC IPlayer.

Which of course doesn't work if you are outside the UK unless you have all ssorts of dodgy proxy busting VPN hiding software that then fecks up your bandwidth anyway

ho hum

Hopefully will find a link to a Blackpool tater or two

Is that just for the match, Phil? 'Coz I can stream Solent (and other BBC stations) here no problem.

I was wondering I am coming into Southampton Airport parkway station what is the best way to get to the ground and back?

train to Southampton central and then follow the crowd. Leave yourself at least 15 minutes to get to the ground from the station.

Oldham three days later. Long trip away, midweek, limited number of Saints fans, against a team that has only just lost at home for the first time (only Brighton better). Would love to beat Blackpool but much rather we win on Tuesday. Cant believe forum has so little attention on Oldham match!

Because it isn't our next game yet.

As soon as we play Blackpool, the Oldham game will be the centre of attention.

With hindsight yes... but it was when we scored he got scared, my guess is he wouldve reacted the same at any match- I just think he was too young.

I wanted to make sure he got a buzz on his first game and wanted to come again- I thought he was ready, he wasnt. It was a judgement call based on me knowing my own son

The team they look set to put out would be a mediocre championship side at best, they are there for the taking but really dont want to risk anything that'll hamper our chances in the league. A win could be a massive boost, and surely include Puncheon if he's available? Millwall have Birmingham in the cup so that's a likely loss for them anyway and hes on top form.

Ollie is very keen on a win on Saturday...

But he has asked some of his supporters to bring their boots and will definitely get a game...;)

PS Nigel has now put out the same call to any of our supporters...;)

BUT not any of the forum players...:p

He has seen the video and would rather take a chance on any other Saints supporter with half a clue..:)

Many blame Coach Phil and Coach Old Nick for the poor quality of players on show........

But I am reliably informed that these two top football leaders improved the quality of their team in a short space of time..

I guarantee you'll see a strong Saints team. Neither Adkins nor Cortese will want to let the opportunity to show what the club can do slip by. Blackpool are top flight but beatable and they'll want to show that. Beating them will no doubt boost our attendences too as we get a bit more coverage.

That would be true if Blackpool were playing their first team rather than a 2nd or even 3rd string side.

If we win, the media won't be saying: "wow, Saints beat a premiership side" they'll be saying: "high flying league 1 side saints scraped a win against a very weak Blackpool side"

Hardly earth shattering publicity, IMHO of course.

any news on ticket sales for this one?

I still think it is a shame we weren't prepared to reduce prices further to try and attract a few more fans to attend, I notice Leicester v Man City is £15 for adults (season ticket holders) and £20 for non-season ticket holders. I thnk we should have at least matched that and try to get 23-25k attendance.

I am sure a few part time fans will do this one to see Blackpool play a super-star forward line of Euell and Ormerod

Reduced prices don't just depend on us,Blackpool have to agree them, if the clubs can't agree then the FA decide.

Leicester want a bumper gate and Moneybags Citeh probably don't give a toss so they said OK. With Blackpool's average home crowd being so low they'll probably want to make a couple of quid from the tie as well.

do we let the drummer bloke back or will he get chucked out again....one of the funniest and ridiculous stewarding issues seen in recent years????

Was that the game where the steward planted one on a fan and got escorted out by the OB? Pretty sure that was the same game, was pretty funny. Hope they don't bring the drum on Saturday though. Feck that was annoying.

Holloway just confirmed on 5live that he will field his reserves as they stand 'no chance' of winning the competition.

That is absolutely pathetic in my opinion and shows how short sighted some managers are.

He clearly didn't notice bottom of the table pompey in the final last year.

or championship clubs Barnsley, Cardiff and West Brom in the semi finals 2008.

I remember Wycombe and Chesterfield in the semi finals in recent times.

What Holloway should be saying is they have zero chance of winning the premier league, but have a real chance of going through a few rounds of the FA Cup and who knows could get to Wembley in the semi finals.

Blackpool wanted lower prices, they even put it on their ticket news about the game.
