Turkish Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 IMO Reading will capture Austin, he is from Hungerford, his family still live there, Reading is a short scoot down the M4. Why does this matter? he is a big boy and i am sure he is capable of moving away from home for £10k a week. It'll come down to who he thinks is the best club and offers him the best deal.
Windmill Arm 2 Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Regardless, anyone who believes we are signing Austin is seriously deluded. This thread is embarrassing.
Window Cleaner Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Regardless, anyone who believes we are signing Austin is seriously deluded. This thread is embarrassing. As are most of the "transfer threads" this window.

St_Tel49 Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Apparently Howe wants him for Burnley - according to (someone else's ) Sun.
Northant Saint Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Don't really understand why we are still talking about this.
trousers Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Don't really understand why we are still talking about this. Because it fits in nicely with the 90% of drivel most of us discuss on here....?
Whitey Grandad Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Apparently Howe wants him for Burnley - according to (someone else's ) Sun. 'twas also in the Mail. (Mine )

Chris Marsden = Genius Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Going to Leicester i have heard. He wont come to us.
Saints foreva Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 7 pages for someone who we're most probably not even thinking about signing. Great stuff, the usual ITK ******** imo.
trousers Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 I'll see your Burnley/Reading/Leicester and raise you a Millwall and QPR... http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard-sport/football/article-23915617-millwall-and-qpr-on-alert-for-charlie-austin.do
trousers Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 7 pages for someone who we're most probably not even thinking about signing. Great stuff, the usual ITK ******** imo. I know. Same happened with Skacel. Weeks, nay, years of speculation that came to nothing.
dannysfc Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Watching the Leeds v Arsenal game tonight I see that Billy Paynter is playing his 3rd game for Leeds tonight and I am just wondering who people think is Better between Billy Paynter or Charlie Austin?! I don't want to get into anything with someone But I just want to see what your views are and who you would have at Saints?! Going by tonight I for one would go for Charlie Austin as I think he's quite a profilic goalscorer and would do Good with Lambert, Guly, Barnard, etc IMHO! Thoughts?! Thanks! COYR !!
Saint_clark Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Can easily be included in the Austin thread already running. Fwiw, I don't think we have a chance of getting Paynter.
stattosaint Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Have heard from good authorithy Austin is off to Brighton
Turkish Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Have heard from good authorithy Austin is off to Brighton he's been joining every f*cking club in the country if you believe this thread.
S-Clarke Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Have heard from good authorithy Austin is off to Brighton Doubt it. Nothing on the brighton forums and that board is full of ''ITK'' wannabes. He will not stay in this league, if he moves it will be for the champ. or above.
hypochondriac Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Why on Earth would Austin go to Brighton over us? Absolutely no chance. He will go to the NPC.
Saint_clark Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Why on Earth would Austin go to Brighton over us? Absolutely no chance. He will go to the NPC. Because they're two places above us? And he doesn't seem to like us anyway, judging by his goal celebration at St Marys.
hypochondriac Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Because they're two places above us? And he doesn't seem to like us anyway, judging by his goal celebration at St Marys. If someone joins a team based on short term league position (two places above us) then they are seriously thick.
Dalek2003 Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 I have heard locally that Norwich are putting a bid in for Austin. Chris martin coming our way.
Turkish Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 I have heard locally that Norwich are putting a bid in for Austin. Chris martin coming our way. someone ITK (apparantly) on the UI board said a few weeks ago we were in for Martin and some welsh midfield bloke i'd never heard of, Tudor something i think.
stattosaint Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 I think he will stay in this league for another 4 months, i sincerely hope it is with us but i fear not. It will be with a promotion contender and he will be playing Championship football next season.

If true Dalek, I'd be happy with that. Martin is a very good player and has already scored goals in the champ. too.
stattosaint Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Based on the fact that a Championship Club of any worth will not pay the £2 million that Swindon are after for an unproven striker at that level
Papa Shango Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 If someone joins a team based on short term league position (two places above us) then they are seriously thick. I know a couple of lads who grew up with Austin, who would confirm he is actually seriously thick, so you never know. To be fair though, you have to say Brighton are a much better bet to definitely reach the Championship than we are at the moment (5 points clear with a game in hand). They've got a new stadium on the way, and a very good young manager. Not the worse club in the world to be at. To completely dismiss them over us, is a little bit arrogant IMO. No wonder some Brighton fans don't like us. Maybe he would choose us over Brighton, but it's not out of the question he'd choose them if we were both in for him. Like you said though, he'll probably end up in the Champo
Turkish Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Based on the fact that a Championship Club of any worth will not pay the £2 million that Swindon are after for an unproven striker at that level But you said staying in league one with a promotion contender, but not us. So he must be leaving Swindon as they sure as hell aren't, who else can afford £1.5m in League one?

A good team, a good manager, a new stadium and potentially a decent sized fan base, with the right investment they could go places. But also just remember how far Leeds were ahead this time last year. Edited 19 January, 2011 by Turkish

Matthew Le God Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Norwich are a championship club with a good chance of reaching the Premier League And have debts of £20m+.
S-Clarke Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Norwich are a championship club with a good chance of reaching the Premier League Reading some stories today, it sounds like their board are considering funding a full on assault to get promotion this year. So what you say is very true.

Turkish Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Norwich are a championship club with a good chance of reaching the Premier League Yeah i just meant generally Brighton would be an attractive club for a player to join. Going back to Martin, he'd be a decent signing, good player at this level and only 22.

Weren't Norwich after Elliott Bennett of Brighton earlier this week? Could this be the player they're after though?

thorpie the sinner Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 I also like the sound of Chris martin!!! However, i do think this thread title should be changed to 'ALL 92 CLUBS IN LEAGUE CLOSE IN ON CHARLIE AUSTIN'!!
NickG Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 Why on Earth would Austin go to Brighton over us? Absolutely no chance. He will go to the NPC. because we have Lambert, meaning we need him less so may offer less (if at all) and he is less likely to start.
scotty Posted 19 January, 2011 Posted 19 January, 2011 he's been joining every f*cking club in the country if you believe this thread. perhaps he's just spreading himself thinly. Sharing the wealth, so to speak. F*cking commie...
the saint in winchester Posted 20 January, 2011 Posted 20 January, 2011 I'd be very happy if we signed Chris Martin. Yeah, pre-match Coldplay concert. Rick wotsit (drummer) already a Saints fan. Gywnneth Paltrow taking over from Stewart Dennis ... it's all good.
eelpie Posted 20 January, 2011 Posted 20 January, 2011 because we have Lambert, meaning we need him less so may offer less (if at all) and he is less likely to start. I think it more likely that Ricky would lose his automatic place to Austin on ability to score goals this season.

david in sweden Posted 20 January, 2011 Posted 20 January, 2011 I've got a contact with someone fairly high up on the Swindon board and I have been reliably informed we have had a bid accepted for Charlie Austin. Don't have any further details or how much the fee is etc. Three weeks gone and I'm still holding my breath...
